Not too amazing you may say, but those times have been posted by my 6 year old son :D

I don't know how many of you have kids, but I am amazed at how easily he can pick up patterns in games.  I suspect it's just something that normal kids have the ability to do.  I remember hearing in  one of my college courses that young kids have the greatest capacity to learn, and as you get older that capacity continually weakens.

For instance, he completely dominates the last three bosses on Prime.  (Omega Pirate, Ridley, Prime).  Granted he doesn't do it as cleanly as i've seen some of you pros do it, but he can generally beat all of them without losing more than 2 tanks of energy.  He even beat Ridley and Prime the first time he fought them (I didn't, it took me two times on each...guess I didn't pick up on the pattern as fast  O_o)

To date he has beaten Fusion, Zero Mission, Prime, and is currently playing an emulated version of Super Metroid.  He's about 2/3rds trhough it as far as I can tell.  Like his dad (me if you haven't been paying attention), he love the Zelda series as well.  He has finished Zelda 2 (good game, contrary to popular opinion), Link to the Past, and Wind Waker.

So there you have it, me harping on how cool my son is.  Discuss any gaming experience with younger folk.  :D

BTW.  I found this site looking for speed runs though Fusion/ZM.  He was bugging me to find out if it was possible to do the games faster.

Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Not too shabby for a 6 year old at all. Congrats.

Nice to see a parent taking interest in his kid's activities too.
Beating prime at 6? That's amazing. When I was that age, SNES wasn't even around. I beat my first game (Mario Brothers) at age 4. My parents didn't believe me until I showed them I could do it.  Laughing It was amazing for me because I found out several, uhhh... things, such as the warp pipes to level 4 and to level 8, and I found out a trick to get unlimited lives with only 1 turtle (Somewhere at 150 or so, the game will freeze. Since the counter only has 2 digits, weird little sprites take there places.)

But enough about that. Is he going to try faster runs. :)
Shocked
Dude... that kid just kicked my ass... well, not in the ZM department, but in everything else... damn.

It also took me twice with each boss on Prime as well (except for Thardus, he was a pansy).  I only had to do Flaaghra twice because I took too long in the room before finding the runes... or whatever they're called.  Only had 50 life when I went into Flaaghra.  Prime's second form handed me my ass the first time, and that room with all the Fission Metroids... *shudder*.  I got to just skipping through that room as fast as I could.
I beat Super Metroid when I was 3, about 6 months after I thought Metroid was cool when it was on display at Sears.

My son beat SNES Super Mario right around 4 or 4.5 years of age.  That was his first game he beat.  He then went through several of the Megaman games before moving on to Zelda and Metroid after watching me play them.

He is indeed going to try to beat the games faster.  I downloaded as many speed runs as I could last night, and put them on his computer.  I'm sure he'll learn several cool tricks.  He was incredibly impressed with some of the videos from the Fusion 1% run.  He just couldn't believe that someone could beat the boss in clip 23 without getting hit.
Congratulations on your son,i'm twice as old as him and it took almost twice as long as him to complete ZM and Metroid Fusion(i'm shaving my time now,i watched a load of speedruns too learn some new tricks  :D ),and i had to try twice to beat thardus and meta ridley, the last boss of MP(metroid prime himself)was easy...
Wow... your son rules! Flaaghra took me two tries (the only reason I won the second time was because I abused the dash jump) and I got my ass handed to me on Prime, BOTH forms. I had about 22 energy left after the Ridley fight and that was on ALL 14 energy tanks!

Maybe your son will be the next Sesshoumaru in fusion :) or the next Smokey in SM or the next Red Scarlet... Hell, at this rate, he may even kick ALL their asses at age 10. But right now, you need to teach him how to get 100%
*manly poses*
Gratz.

I beat my first game, Crystalis, at age 2. This was with minimal help from my mother. ;D
Not to take any credit away from your son or anything, but video games are much easier then they use to be. Give him Metroid 2: Return of Samus and see how he fairs in that one.

I beat Zelda 2! I beat the Thunderbird on my first try!

Of course, I had a little help from Sess, but still. I wanna brag about it.  :P
wow, that sounds like natural talent. it's true about young people quickly acquiring and applying knowledge, as opposed to older people, who are more like libraries of already acquired knowledge, but i think your son is probably ahead of the pack already in terms of raw, natural skill. as tooz said, great to hear you are paying attention to this. when his skills mature, we might all be out of a job. ;P

btw, cool screen name.

Zelda II and Metroid II have what to do with eachother?
Damn. I have a 12-year-old cousin with absolutely no talent... I gave him Zero Mission and he got as far as the first fight with the charge beam miniboss.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.

uhm, didnt exactly look at what i posted, should be without the "Give him Metroid 2: Return of Samus and see how he fairs in that one."
Sure. And Zelda II is even older than Metroid II. But TRH's point was that, to beat ZII, the kid obviously has some skill.
