I don't know how OBS local recordings work, but I've never had a watermark on any XSplit local recording I've done.

Part 1 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=qe7GwruUBnA

It's unlisted. Let me know what you guys think; I think the volume is just quiet overall though :/
I agree, audio is low, balance is good but it's overall low. Text is also kind of hard to read, you might want to add a black border.

I didn't really like the second shinespark example, it's a bit needlessly complicated with the speed boost block you have to avoid breaking and enemies you have to kill. I'd recommend the shinespark to the Crateria Power Bomb, maybe coming from Tourian for it to make more sense. It involves an aerial spark, a recharge and a diagonal ballspark. All important parts of how shinesparking works.

Not a big fan of the Space Boosting examples either. Especially the last one as it's not part of every route and without knowing that room in particular it's kind of hard to see why it's faster. Admittedly it's a bit hard to find representative space boosts in ZM, but the Tourian one maybe?

Great job otherwise, I love it.

The tourian spaceboost works, but it's also very difficult and I don't really want to give the implication that you should do it (because you probably shouldn't <_< ). Then again, it is a good example of space boosting being faster than shinesparking...

I can see your point about the second shinespark example. The Tourian power bomb tank is a good replacement; I'll probably put it after the ballspark example, as something that puts everything important together.

I'll wait for other thoughts before editting the video; for now, I'll work on part 2
Well I meant the space boost IN Tourian, that we do for the missile.
oh that one. haha whoops <_<

that's one that's useful, especially since I remember mentioning it haha
placeholder, reminding myself to go over this tomorrow. cool project kirby
"tomorrow" obviously means "several days from now"

I watched through the video and wrote down my nitpicks. While there are lots of them, they are mostly very minor, I think you've done a good job. The cutaway examples work really well.

-My main criticism is that the video is long-winded; I think there's a lot of stuff that doesn't really need to be said, especially in the intro. Obviously the videos don't have to be insanely polished, but it might be worth hashing out a rough script before recording the commentary. An example of what I'm talking about is when you go over NG+ and reading the map.
-On that note, you say time attack unlocks the timer on the pause screen, but that's present on all NG+ files. Time attack just unlocks the records screen (which you didn't mention).
-When defining 100%, mention the varia suit anomaly.
-Since ledge hopping is faster, I think you should talk about it first, rather than as an afterthought. I'm super lazy with my ledge climbing, but there's no reason to pass that on to people learning the game. (dragonfangs paid me to say this)
-At 21:03 you say it's better to shoot so samus stops briefly. I'm not sure what you mean by this - why do you want her to pause? I just shoot because it's easier to hit B-A precisely than it is Up-A.
-For the ballspark example, you should shinespark left instead of ballsparking.
-You say there's a missile tank you have to space boost for. I can't think which one you mean >_>
-This is a pretty minor mechanic, but it might be worth mentioning the skid you get when speed boosting and how to cancel it.
-Maybe mention how single bomb jumping has a greater flexibility for dodging enemies in tight shafts? This is kind of only relevant for the missile tank at the top of brinstar and not many people get that with bomb jumps, so idk.
-Include a longer demo of how to use a wall to transition between DBJ and IBJ, this is a pretty important technique imo.
-Your HBJ "demo" made me laugh. :) Not sure if you're planning to talk more about this when you cover Kraid, but I don't think you should just dismiss it.
-29:50 - Maybe the ZZBJ should finally get its time in the sun?
-30:20 - That's how I do that bomb jump too, but in spidey's last video he started going diagonally earlier. It seems more difficult but maybe faster.
-It's kind of weird how walljumping is right at the end, it's a pretty basic technique.
-stop mentioning fusion in the ZM tutorial Kappa
I'm not sure whether you are continuing this or if you're already done, but I only just watched the video so I'll say my bit on the video.

I think that this first part should be split into several parts. I personally wouldn't want to watch a 30 minute video to learn the basic mechanics of a game. I would much rather watch a few 1-3 minute videos one at a time than one 30 minute video encompassing all of the minor tricks. This is how I learned the basics of the game though, so I might be a little biased. That's really my only criticism of the first part. This isn't a rule I would have for the rest of the videos by the way. Splitting them up is a good idea, but I am not suggesting 3 minute videos for the actual route itself =P.

I think that ledge grabbing vs. walljumping is a very complex topic and it depends on a room to room basis. It's something I wouldn't really talk about in a beginner video. I hope that I am not unlike others in that it's not hard to just use a different room strategy if I find one I think is slightly faster or more convenient. It really depends on the player too because I notice that everyone uses slightly different room strategies everywhere =P.

I haven't worked or thought about it yet at all since my laptop sucks at recording and crap. I'll probably get back to working on this once I have access to my desktop computer (aka end of august and on).

As for your idea to not spend time on the mechanics, IMO I think it's best to just go over mechanics first. The point is that I can focus on routes and strategies for the rest of the tutorial, rather than saying "here's how you do a shinespark" in the middle and such. I want to be able to assume that when the watcher starts to move on seriously to part 2 and on, that the watcher has practiced the basic techniques well enough to be able to follow the strategies ok.

Also, I think it's worth mentioning ledge hops, but not really emphasizing it (aka, I think I'll probably say "implement this if you feel like it" but not really stress it).

And I completely forgot to respond to mobius, but yeah, when I redo the first video, I'll have some sort of script to go over :P And yeah, walljumping being at the end (now that I think about it) is strange haha
I'm not saying to not spend time on the mechanics, but to spread it over a lot of smaller videos rather than one big one.
