I made a thread for this. Zero Mission is a much more route-heavy game than Fusion, so one person will not be able to make a video tutorial like the one I made for Fusion any%.
The one I made for fusion any% is here as an example - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3pBMjeS6rYhtLVGWtLoCeD7C2aZrkl9n
We want to make a ZM 100% tutorial just like what I made for fusion, except give all the possible options for newer players. Fusion any% was easy for me to do alone and without prior planning, because I didn't have to go over many route options besides which extra expansions to get (I also know metroid fusion way better than ZM); ZM is completely different. Thus we should actually plan this out first; lay out all the routes, the pros & cons of each route, and so on.
I'll list out different routes, and the pros/cons I know about them (+ is pro, - is con). I'll update as people with more knowledge post about it.
Late Long Beam
+Ultimately faster
+Shinespark after long beam to tourian
-The hive room can be very dangerous and slow without it
-Several rooms becomes slightly harder/slower
Late Charge Beam
+Ultimately a tiny bit faster (~0.5 seconds)
-Some areas are harder to deal with without Charge, particularly breaking the block after the worm corridor
Brinstar Cleanup
Early (The Dragondarch Route)
+Extra e-tank and near-full ammo before kraid
-Annoying bomb jump right after bombs
Late (The ZX Route)
+No annoying bomb jump
-Need some missile drops for acid worm, assuming no AWS
-One less e-tank
Acid Worm Skip
Do AWS
+Right side of Kraid is much faster in cleanup
+lol acid worm with plasma beam
+Significantly faster (~10-15 seconds)
+Possibility of skipping refill before fighting Kraid, thanks to skipping acid work
-horizontal bomb jump ; VERY DIFFICULT
-Mess it up once, and you lose the time you would've saved
No AWS
+Much much easier and more consistent
-Slower right-kraid area, and slower acid worm fight
-Need 30 missiles for acid worm
-Marginally slower
Kraid Cleanup
Early
+About 10 seconds faster in RTA
-Requires having at least 8ish missiles after acid worm
-Loses 3 seconds in-game
Late
+No need for missiles after acid worm
+3 seconds faster in-game
-10 seconds slower in RTA
-Messing up the space boost can cost several seconds
Ice Beam Route
Early Ice Beam
+Much easier imago cocoon
+No need to walljump in the Ridley single pillar room
+Exiting the Ridley fight is much easier
+Slightly faster missile tank by entrance of Ridley
-Ultimately 5-10 seconds slower
-Traveling through upper-right norfair is a bit slower
Late Ice Beam
+Ice Beam area is faster and smoother with screw attack + hi jump
+Ultimately 5-10 seconds faster
-Harder imago cocoon
-Need to walljump the single-pillar Ridley room
-Need to IBJ out of the Ridley fight
-Fire enemies in norfair take more hits to kill by the beam
Norfair Cleanup Route
Upper Cleanup
+Easier to pull off
-One less super missile before Ridley
-One more heated room in Norfair before Ridley
Lower Cleanup
+Extra Super Missile Tank before Ridley
+One less heated room in Norfair before Ridley meaning more viable to do norfair without refills
-Getting the super missile tank requires a difficult bomb jump out of the lava
-Skipping the worm e-tank leaves you without an energy refill for imago cocoon
I think I do an overall decent job of explaining things, at least in my fusion any% tutorial; I just talk a bit fast. But anyone else knowledgeable enough can feel free to co-commentate or something. Or if you have any criticism on how I commentate for tutorials, post here as well so I can be better :)
