The way I see it is, if it's an old topic that you were the last to post in it's fine to add a second post if something new comes up. Or in a case as mentioned in the rules where there is a large image you need to post and you have a long post to begin with, a double post would be fine there. As long as it isn't something that could be fixed with the edit button, you should be fine.
Of course the safest bet would be to just not double post at all, but it's unlikely that you'd be banned for it. It is listed as a policy so unless you go nuts with the double posting you're more likely to be told to use the edit button than anything else.
I don't know why people would rather double post than use the edit button anyway, the edit button is my friend and it should be your's too.
Multi posts have come up a few times in the SM Hacks board too, there's a quadruple post there in the New Hack... topic, which made the edit button very sad. To be honest, that board seems a tad under moderated, though it seems stay pretty orderly on it own. I haven't really payed much attention to that board until recently.
My old topics point was more for on that has fallen pretty far down the list to a point where someone might not notice the new post flag, but now that I think about it, that's more in the discussion for bumping than double posting.
Plus, editing a post of yours if it's the last one in the topic will have the "new" label next to it.
But it won't show up in the "Show new replies to your posts."

That's because, according to my sources*, Ark doesn't go to the SM Hacks board.
I believe I saw a post of your's there once, I think that was the first time I bothered to read anything on that board. I generally don't like ROM hacks.
I don't think anyone cares enough about that board for it to matter.

Nah, I do occasionally pop in, but usually just to moderate.
I don't know, it seems to have formed it's own little community. Some of the users I've seen there don't, or at least very rarely, post outside of it. Artee's solution may have some merit, Kej, Electrometer, or Acheron seem like they could handle it. They're fairly active over there, and having someone there to keep things in check regularly can't be too bad.

Yeah, I know I'm double posting in this topic of all topics, but I didn't like the idea of adding a block of text to a post from April.
I have a question as to how mini modding works, in the "New Member" topic Metroid Prime Board Master-88 points the new guy towards the correct topic and BioSpark tells him to leave that to the mods. Granted, the wording of Master's post and the fact that the offending topic was on the wrong board entirely probably had a lot to do with it, but it just makes me wonder where being helpful and mini modding meet. Does directing someone towards the correct topic for a post count as mini modding? Or is typing "Wrong topic" with a link just the wrong way to go about it?
When the entire content of your post is simply stating that a poster broke a rule or is not following a policy, you are mini-modding
That bit in the description of the rule would lead me to believe the latter, but I felt it wouldn't hurt to confirm things. I can see why BSpark said what he did, as the the post could have been moved to the correct place if left alone, and Master's comment wasn't in the most welcoming tone but does this only apply in that specific situation? Or would it be best to any such post to a mod / admin?
Now that I think about it, it was probably ok for him to say that, considering the topic was going to get locked anyway. So yeah that wasn't completely mini-modding.
Yeah, unless it's possible for you guys to move a thread to another category (like how my post was copied from a derivative of the Social Topic to the Racial and Musical Discussion Thread).
I'd say mini modding is a pretty objective thing. Every situation is different, and there's no way to really quantify anything. So, it's really up to the individual mod's discression.
Personally I have no issues with members reminding others of the rules, but there's definately a line not to be crossed.
EDIT: After actually looking at the topic, I'll have to side with Spark on that one. It's not so much what Master-88 or whoever said as how he said it: he was speaking abruptly and bluntly like you'd expect a mod to talk like. It's not entirely that he was in the wrong; I can just see how the phraseology would cause Spark to have that reaction.
imo it was borderline mini-modding, as the best thing that could have happened there would have been for MASTER-88 to just not post and let people who can actually do something about it do so. That being said, there wasn't really anything wrong with MASTER-88's except perhaps how curt he was, especially toward a new user.
If I were BioSpark there I would have simply deleted MASTER-88's post, then merged the topic with the introduce yourself topic.

Yeah, that's what struck me about the topic in the first place, so I kinda figured that might have something to do with it but I wasn't completely sure about it.
No Warez – Posting up and asking for illegal warez is strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to: ROMs, ISOs, and game cracks. Violation of this Rule will usually result anywhere from a Warning to a Ban, depending on the offense.
I don't mean to sound like an idiot, but does that also include some MP3 audio files?
Well, this is a smaller forum, so it's easier to do that. The problem with large forums is that there are never enough mods to handle everyone so actually moderating things is difficult.
It's a good thing that the mods are in control. Trust me. When things get out of hand, nobody wins.
In the forum i'm at most of the time I've never seen the mods scold anyone, they let the other members rip on people for being turds. Anyone starts any topic for any reason. If the thread is lame, nobody responds and it dies. Theres even a thread where everyone just continuously posts one single character over & over to bring up their post count and they don't care. It has like 50,000 posts so far!
