I wanted to throw that in on the go. It is from the same guy. And I know someone might find it quite amusing;)
Quote from tomatobob:
I might consider playing 3 one day but it's not terribly likely.

MGS3 is worth playing because all the overtalk bull centres on one character (The Boss) who doesn't say much apart from at the end. In terms of gameplay, it's probably the most fun. MGS3 also has the best antagonist because there is no faux-nobility about him like other MGS baddies, he is plain evil and he knows it.

In general I notice some trend when it comes to something like MGS. It seems some have played so much Kirbys,Metroids,Batmans, Uncharted, Gows etc. that they are dead to everything that gets personal. MGS is actually a real plot with real characters. They act according to their purpose and capabilities, not according to your will.

I stumbled over some development process behind MGS4 by coincidence. I think it doesn't hurt to get a bit of insight how things can be going. I repeat that the HD-remakes are about to arrive on ps3 and xbox360. If I am informed correctly they will include MGS2, MGS3 and Peace Walker (no clue why not MGS1), all in one package.

And here, it is not just me who realised that there is an experience and something to think attached to the concept. Kojima says it himself. Take notice at 2:39-3:30 in the first vid. So the focus is not just playing around with toys but to provide a meaningfull experiece. That is not to doubt.

No matter how crazy the characters get, it is about the meaning attached to them. It is also cool to watch so don't miss it.

While I admittedly know nothing at all about MGS, I'd just like to say that in a post-Other M world, I'm deeply suspicious of any claims of "meaning" attached to characters.

You are not only right for Other M, it applies to nearly all the games since a long time (not that a game urgently needs a story and meaning). Kojima is just the one exceptional in this regard and so are his games. MGS-rising will be different again because he will be unlikely involved, it is a spin-off not designed by him, just a fancy action game. Nothing wrong with that but putting MGS in its name is very misleading and it will hurt some people.

I even get the feeling that some of the Konami-Members developing MGS-Rising don't really like Kojima and his way of doing stuff. They want to go the conventional route and they primarily target to satisfy all the inpatient players who want to get straight to the "bad-ass"-action.
I understand all that but I am appreciating games that are original to the designers vision first place, even when they have annoying parts in them. So you can experience and study how other people think and what an outlook they want to convey. For me that is the interesting part and that compensates for the annoyance you might find here and there. It is like studying different cultures, it certainly will enrich yourself.
I recently heard the 3DS will get a right analog-stick attachment. That will get them into some trouble. Since the psp-days I have always wondered why handhelds were lacking a right thumbstick. Every person with a basic conscious understanding in game-mechanics would suggest to design the 3DS natively with that. Let's face it, 3D-hardware-power has been there and how many shooters or shooter-like controls do we have out there? Many. Fundamentally every game that separates moving from the aiming ideally needs both thumbsticks in order to reduce overhead in controls.

None of the characters in MGS have any meaning apart from Raiden, who is Troll Kojima's portrayal of MGS fanboys.

MGS is one of the reasons every Japanese game nowdays need to have one million plot twists in the last 3 or so hours of it...
It is impossible to be a fanboy of MGS as much as it is impossible to be a fanboy of being a buddhist. Fanboyism can only arise around things which don't matter. Fanboyism is a product of society's luxury. Regarding the gaming-world back then in the nes/snes times there were less console fanboys, not because they were more mature than now, but mainly because of the lack of games. They were happy to play everything they can get.
because MGS is so meaningful and important

Yes. MGS should have been a must in higher grades or in the college or somewhen in that cycle to help todays teens finding more value in their life. If you try to be a fanboy of MGS then you are not. You can only be a fanboy of fake illusions. You can be a fanboy of Uncharted, God of War, Gears of War and stuff like that because they are intentionally about the illusions many like to listen to. So you are exactly the fanboy of the content provided. They are not the real thing.

You can also not be a fanboy of being a christ, well, you can think that you can like most do.
But god himself will tell you that you were never close to him, you are a stranger. That applies to all values which are real and MGS is full of them.

So

Uh

How about that Wii U, huh

What is your detailed impression about it, Turtle? I think it is a good concept, but one down will be the lack of the L3/R3-buttons. I hope they will add them, anyone an info about that?

I think having a screen on the controller is kind of stupid.

Like, I'm sure they'll be able to sell the system, they did a stupid gimmick with its predecessor, too, and look how successful it was.

Just not a huge fan.  Unless the next Metroid game is on this system, I probably won't bother.  At least, not for a long time.

Do you think it is stupid because knowing the devs they will make stupid things on it. Or do you find it is stupid regardless? In that case I want to know why, do you think it is uncomfortable or is there other reason aswell?

it's not really stupid, it will prolly work like a giant DS.

I don't even care about any future metroid games.  Other M was so bad that I just can't let myself get excited.  If and/or when they make a new metroid game, I'm not even gonna buy it unless everyone that does buy it says it's awesome.

Well I do fear that the series has gone the way of Sonic the Hedgehog, but just like any fan of that franchise would do, I'm going to keep my hopes up for every new release regardless of how rational those hopes are.

god that guy is so damn dense it hurts a little. Just because someone does something first doesn't mean they automatically set that "thing" as a trend that will follow until the end of a generation. He acts as if everyone except for him and his fellow hardcore-nintendo-gamers are too stupid to think for themselves when it comes to playing a damn video game. Every single person that enjoys a first person shooter to him is obviously just a brain dead monkey that can't decide which kind of video games they enjoy.

I also love how he fails to point out the Metroid Prime games. Those were extremely well renowned video games, and gasp, they were first person shooters as well! Oh the horror!
One shall stand, one shall ball.
No no you see Metroid Prime is a first person adventure! It just happens that your adventure is primarily driven by shooting, but they are totally different!

The Prime games are totally different than the stereotypical FPS, but that's mostly because it has fun physics (as opposed to realistic physics) and colors that are not brown.

Oh my fuck "generation" doesn't even sound like a word anymore.

Neither does Nintendo.
