Why was the topic called "Needles" closed?
Because mangadood and that other person spammed it? Why not give warnings and delete the posts rather then close the whole topic?
Thread title:
red chamber dream
Because it was just a waste of time. The topic didn't have all that much to it in the first place, and locking the topic solves the problem of spam much more efficiently than deleting posts. And warnings were not really necessary.
mangadood;

Then is SPAM allowed on this forum now or what?
red chamber dream
No, it's not; that's why the topic was locked. If it happens in other topics as well, warnings will may given out, or the topic may be locked also. I think that most of the mods feel that simply locking a spam-ish topic is overall most effective, though.
Don't mean to mini-mod, but you're not supposed to do this either.  (ask why something was locked; it's in the rules)
red chamber dream
Actually, it's not in the Rules. There's a Policy about respecting the decisions of mods/admins, but that's all. Soupy's question was okay, in my opinion. And USBCD36, I do consider that mini-modding, especially since that's not even in the Rules. So don't do that again.
But Soupy, please know that all topics that are locked will stay locked, and no reason for such needs to be given.

...
The topic was locked before you posted...

I know...what does that have to do with what I said?

Right. The "Needles" topic is locked, and it will stay that way.

Mods and Admins can post in locked topics without unlocking them.

THE WORD OF MOD IS LAW. YOU WILL NOT QUESTION THE WORD OF MOD.

Why did you use bright yellow text? Didn't you ever ONCE think of the subSilver users? Why do fools fall in love?

Happy?
No, you should never adapt your formatting because the select few (who suck because they don't use smartDark) complain.
It doesn't seem that unreasonable to ask for a reason when there's no obvious punitive action taken, so that posting which leads to lockage can be avoided in the future.  I don't think anyone was asking about unlocking the topic, just the reason for it.  Still, perhaps mods/admins can more consistently post their reasons for locking a topic in the topic itself at the time of locking?
red chamber dream
Maybe it's not that unreasonable, but we're still not obligated to give a reason. If we do, it's just curteousness, because users ought to know the rules.

Personally, my view is that 99% of the time, it's rather obvious why a topic is closed, and 99% if we have to explain it, it shouldn't have been locked.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
In the case of the topic in question, I think it reason for being locked was quite obvious, what with it eventually boiling down to people posting the word poop.

*poop*

...Nevermind.
red chamber dream
At any rate, it boils down to this: If a topic has been locked, it has been for a reason. The reason ought to be blatantly obvious, but if it is not, then please trust that there is a valid reason. Topics don't just get locked for nothing. No, mods/admins don't have to explain why a topic was locked, but we will sometimes do so anyway. Asking why a topic was locked is okay, but please PM a mod/admin to do this. Don't create a new topic about it. And I believe that, in this case, if you read the "Needles" topic, you should know why the topic was locked.

By the way, any posts or topics asking that a topic be unlocked in order to continue the thread will be ignored, deleted, or locked.

I don't see a reason to keep this topic open, now that this has been explained numerous times by various admins/mods, so...poop.
