Or we could be mature and stick to just enforcing the rules, leaving only those that make the useless posts to look silly.
This. Hats were funny once (okay, twice), but I'd better not see them again, at least not for a while. Best to let users make themselves look like jackasses.
Ark, you are the very person I hoped would delete the hats in my post. Don't worry, I won't restore the original post, but the hats look just too retarded in that post. I tried to replace them with a facepalm, but Kenny wanted it the way it is. Be mature, people, even this looks better than hats:
I don't care if you want to use that image, just put it on your own photobucket or something. If I'm going to get "bandwith exceeded" images I'd rather it be my own doing.
Lack of members, for sure. This forum doesn't have any ads, and apparently could care less how many users it has. That's why so many people are taken aback by some of the mods' behavior, on other sites they're much 'nicer' to the users because membership levels and retention are important to them. That's just my take on the whole thing, could be wrong.
Actually that's one thing I noticed here..the mods don't understand that the users make the forum. Threads are locked without violation just lack of interest. Their work is more to limit users than get new ones. WE make this forum and NOT the mods...I don't say mods make bad but i think you should look from another view. Like don't kick out Cpadolf if he makes one mistake. The users who provide to the forum shall stay.
Users are rarely banned from here. Would have to be consistent, blatant violation of the forum rules, and that simply doesn't happen very much. Topics are also never locked due to lack of interest.

So why was the religion/ploitics thread locked? PS. Just know your complianing about what we discuss...why can't the discussins develop in a thread when there is mass input of content. A discussion develops from the root and let it be so. We are happier=the forum is happier. Take care of us who conduct a debate an ban/warn spammers/bumbers or lock their threads. What you are doing now is not for the good for this forum. No one like to stay/become a member in a forum filled with locked threads(with subjects of interest). Maybe some new member have something with content to add in the political thread for example. You're work is good in one way but in another self destructive
No. Your politics thread was an utter train wreck from the start, and it only got worse. That's why it was locked. And the administration is actually pretty lenient when it comes to banning, just look at mangadood, he's been here for years.
Actually I can't see that people see the seriousness in the subject(s). If no one broke the forum rules it should not be locked. It's contra productive
If a topic adds nothing to the forum or is very clearly going in a bad direction with no hope of turning around it needs to be locked, your topic was exactly that. Just because no specific rules were broken doesn't mean a topic should be able to sit around being terrible. Locks can be just as much a preventative measure as it can be a "Shut up, you're breaking the rules" kind of deal.
For the record, mixing political and religious discussion is a terrible idea and cannot end well with a large audience. We actually had a pretty good religion topic way back in the day, but the community was smaller and had a much better user base than it does now.

But one thing you shuold know is that a new member maybe find it very interesting and have some comments but just now it's just a forum filled with locked threads. What's non interesting for you and me can be something interesting for someone else thats why threads should be unlocked. Ask yourself how you want the forum to be as a new member.
edit: If I want to discuss politics now I have to start a NEW thread...for what? we have one already(but it's locked). I make one example: If we discuss video games in one thread and the discussion develop to consoles....do we need to start a new thread about that? Do you see what I mean?
The thread in question got more and more off topic every page, and it boiled to numerous people claiming opinions and beliefs to be facts and evidence. It's not a matter of Politics and Religion being inherently against the rules, is just that, as I said in the thread, these kinds of things bring out the crazy in people, and the substance slips from the discussion and ends up turning into bickering. A religion thread is never immediately locked on sight, and there have been several religion threads before, some that didn't get locked. If it had been only a couple users taking things too far, it couldn't have been an issue, they could have simply been scolded and the topic could continue. Most of the people in the discussion, though, simply fought each other and claimed each others' religion to be stupid. This behavior is discouraged, hence the locking of the topic.
Also, you've seemed so stuck on that issue for quite some time. You've clearly developed a disdain for authority in general, and I guess you believe you can save everyone from a problem that isn't really as huge as you seem to think it is. It probably means nothing coming from me because I'm "the man" and all that jazz, but it looks a lot like paranoia. Our administration understands that it's made of people instead of rules, but so many of the people it had been made up of are gone, and not many people have come in that have been able to converse intelligently and help rebuild.
You might be afraid of people leaving if they see administration locking threads left and right, but if you could look at it from our side, people have actually been leaving because of the increase in poor posting. I don't mean "I don't like this post," it's just "this post is detracting from a discussion that could be okay." Then the topic never recovers, and eventually, enough is enough.
I'm not sure if I made this clear enough, but I've done my best for tonight. I'm not sure if Ark ever tried to fully explain it, but he has a kind of confusion/infuriation-based spell about his posts that makes them completely ineffective in the first place. :^P

Yes, you either make a new thread or bring it up in the social topic.
As for your example, as long as the topic doesn't devolve into shit it won't get locked, at worst it gets split into a new topic. The problem with your thread was that it was a train wreck from the start, the opening post did nothing to help avoid the inevitable disaster and set a pretty poor tone for the topic right off. Interest level, as much as you want it to matter, had nothing to do with it.

First read my edit. Second: You said off topic..read edit..Third: Actually I don't think you understood my arguments at all. One thing I want you to change. About people claiming beliefs to be facts. Let them claiming it's not a violation and better is when fact is given to them. Have you ever heard the word "debate"? Some people will stick to their beliefs but some may appreciate facts. Fourth: Actually this is regarding all subjects in the forum Last: I know you're trying to do your job but how many threads(of course locked) regarding politics do you have in this forum when one is enough? I'm not angry just trying to do what I can to make this forum better. Not only for me but for everyone.

Yeah I posted before I realized you edited it. It took quite some time to post, you see. Oops.

Oh, I see. In that case, no, people arguing against poor logic is tedious and boring, not to mention aggravating. The mere fact that religion is involved means there is going to be a lot of faith-based reasoning that simply doesn't help at all, and is basically going to look like "Your beliefs differ from mine and are therefor incorrect." The fact of the matter is, people DIDN'T just agree to disagree, and couldn't continue debating any further from there. You can still discuss things in the social topic, and facts may eventually be presented by somebody. If that somebody came here, he or she may read your thoughts and present them in some form, likely to also be the social topic, but it may be possible that a political discussion here may one day not suck.

I'm currently pretty tired and don't understand this line for the time being.

For a discussion to happen, there need to be active users in the community that can discuss it. The chance had been given, and those that stepped up did poorly. If you're looking for a quality political discussion, apparently this isn't yet the place for it. Surely, there's a place on the internet that is there especially for it.

Do you know that, with this comment, you're telling me to leave and go to another forum? Don't you see that this was what I was against the whole time? I don't know what you want to achieve but this way is only getting the forum less attractive and less users. Let people discuss as long as they not break rules and I promise the whole forum will be more active and attract new members.
Heh, the thing you don't understand is that this forum is about discussing the gameplay aspect of the metroid series, and political discussion is just a bonus if it happens. Nobody really expects to solve droughts and starvation, but if that also happens on top of our primary objective, that's great! But if there's nothing to be said about Metroid, our cause isn't helped, so getting a ton of people to talk about other things here isn't going to help either.
Personally, I don't believe it's going to hurt us if you discuss politics in another board. If you still have Metroid on your mind, I'm still going to be here. Del Taco isn't going to get more revenue by selling cars. They're just not car salesmen.

Haha..Don't you belive people have other interests besides metroid? Why don't let us hang here and discuss other things just because we share the interest in metriod games? We do hang around in our favourit metroid threads also and some side sujects only make us hang around more in Metroid2002. And once again: Locking threads don't solve problems if it's not member brekaing forum rules. It can only MAKE problem. Like I said before: Contra productive. And if this forum only exist because metroid games why do you have non metroid topics?
