It seems that the SA-X should be able to use the shinespark.  It definitely has it, because when you beat Serris, Adam says you recovered another ability.  You cannot recover an ability you never had.  SA-X copied you at full power, and so should have it.  There are spots where it could use it, i.e. in the SA-X sparked video in the Fusion section, Wassup Dawgs built a spark and SA-X didn't.  I know this could be answered by saying "It's a video game", but I still find it interesting.

So in fusion when you are not with SA-X it might be using the shinespark to get to areas more quickly  saying if SA-X was actually running around. or able to blow away the areas that  get blocked but you don't see it do it  but most likley SA-X just plain doesn't use it.  I mean has SA-X ever used an ordinary bomb not that i have seen.  Still there might be a small possibilty that it does use it but this could be a good topic to see what  others have to sayjavascript:emoticon('8-)')
Cool
It's an interesting omission, but I imagine the determining factor was how menacing/advanced the ability in question was.  When you first see it it uses super missiles to blow things up and then jumps using the screw attack, and later it uses a power bomb to expose and damage you.  I don't think you have any of these abilities at that time, so the point is that it's that much stronger than you are.  You get speed boost pretty early on, so that contrast wouldn't be so strong.  Furthermore, it doesn't need to rush to get anywhere; its measured stalk is more intimidating.  When it's running after you in later encounters there wouldn't be enough space to build a charge.

That's off the top of my head, though.  Maybe there are things which contradict that.
I think that does make sense, and I can't think of anything that contradicts it.  It doesn't use the super missiles or power bombs nearly as much, after you get each upgrade.  And it will obviously continue to use the screw attack, even after you get it, because it's difficult to go anywhere without spin jumping.

Although, it would be funny to see some person on their first run through the game, doing fine, when the SA-X starts running really fast and runs them over.

My exact thoughts. The definition of metroid ownage. :D

Too bad they've dumbed the SA-X down so much, though -- its AI doesn't use even the half of Super Metroid's Samus' full combat potential, even on hard mode. But man, it would really be a nice challenge to undertake...
Yeah, it's unvelievable just how stupid SA-X is.  There are plenty more stupid SA-X's than just the ones on the site.  The first I can think of is when you first meet SA-X in TRO, after the Giant Plant.  If you jump down right in front of it, it may run toward you/try to shoot you.  But if you then jump back up in the little tunnel thing, it will start walking away again.  It's probably thinking something like, "I can't see her, so she's not there".  If you jump up and shoot it from above in the same encounter, it will start running for no apparent reason.

I would really enjoy if someone found out how to mod the game to make SA-X smart.  It would put a new challenge in the game.  But, oh well.  I guess 1% SS is hard enough.

no kiddin if SA-X was actually smart just imagine what it could do...
it would probably not happen but I bet if SA-X was smart it could use the other X around it to make it self more powerfull like a super charge.  And what about the shine spark?  If SA-X actually used the shinspark it could probably increase the games hardness by at least 20%. Also it would be nice if the second boss was also harder I mean for goodness sakes you can do that boss without taking a hit!! Oh and also Spidey-Widey found a funny thing to do to tease it, please ask him because i don't know how to xplain it but its hilarious!!! laugh new

The SA-X gets better inteligence on Hard Mode? I must test this, even though my Japanese copy still hasn't arrived.

But yeah. We know that the X infected Samus. We know that the X can evolve. So what if it's a plot device that the SA-X gets more intelligent as you progress through the game, explaining it's slightly higher intelligence in the chase scene and final battle

Umm, no. I said it doesn't, even on hard mode.

What he means is that I found you can get back up to the door you enter from during the Giant Plant battle.  Then you just sit there and it jumps up and down a lot trying to get you.  To do it, you wall jump off the left wall, hit the Giant Plant, it'll hit you up a little, and then you grab the top ledge.  I found this myself, but WD found it about 1.5 years ago.

u found out about 1.5 years ago?? Huh i didn't know that but u should post that on the fusion movie thingy
No, Wassup Dawgs found it 1.5 years ago.  I found it, then a few days later, I saw a post by Wassup Dawgs in the boss safe spots topic made in I believe March 2005.  So, a little over a year and a half now, but I've known about it for about 2 months.

Yeah, I want to make vids of several things.  I'll probably do that eventually.
In my opinion, I dont really think its a big deal. And besides, I believe its not truly a safe spot because the things on the top on zazabi branch out and eventually will hit you.
I don't mean on top of the first ledge.  I mean at the top of the room, standing next to the door.  You can't be hit up there.  But, yeah, it isn't a big deal, as you can't exit through the door until you've beaten the thing.

oh well it's still funny.
That it is.  Even if other bosses have safe spots, most aren't as entertaining as seeing this big thing trying to jump up and get you over and over.  Nightmare's safe spot is pretty funny, too.  This big ugly thing floating up and down, shooting lasers, and failing to hit a sitting ball right under it.
