I'm confused, why does everyone think Fusion is utter crap? Personally, I loved it. I was absolutely starved of Metroid when it came out, so I lapped it up like a hungry kitten. And being told where to go is a lot less fustrating than wandering around like a headless chicken.

I dunno about everyone else, but for me the lack of freedom was the major factor. You were constantly forced to go places, with little ability or reason to explore. A big contrast to the normal Metroid formula, to say the least.

Plus, SA-X turning into that big mutant thing just pissed me off. That's not how that fight should have ended.  :(
Lack of freedom? Lemme tell ya summin, Toozin, you can go back to previous sectors between missions and just muck around.

I know that, obviously. But there was no point in it for me. No real drive. Adam was constantly funneling my path and locking and unlocking doors, so there was no "well, I'm not sure where to go next, so I think I'll muck around in NOC and see if there's any missiles I missed." I always KNEW where I was going, and in a Metroid game that's near blasphemy.

Actually, this thread belongs more in the Fusion forum. I believe I'll move it.
i suggest you take a trip to the gamefaqs fusion board and check out how many active topics there are.

then go to the metroid prime board.

metroid prime is chock full of sequence breaking. metroid fusion has basically none.

coincidence?

Didn't we already go through this in the Yay or Nay topic? At great depth, too?

Trufully, no one "hates" Fusion. They just have a different view on the game as you do. What they're mostly saying is that, in terms of the Metroid games, it just wasn't up to snuff. Truthfully, I liked the game. It was very good. But people play it different and like to do stuff freely and without restraint. For some people, that restraint came in the form of Adam, so they weren't to happy about that.

All in all, it just depends on how you play.
yeah, and you'll be hard pressed to find a person who will tell you that sess plays 'with restraint.' ;)
Metroid Fusion is to me a playable Metroid game, nothing more. The reason to this is basically what Toozin said - lack of freedom. You are more or less forced to go places in a specific order. And you don't need to figure out where to go yourself, you get the next move explained to you all the time - it is somewhat adjusted to very young players.

One of the greatest parts of every Metroid game, besides Fusion, is that while trying to get to new areas, one sometimes stumbles apon new power-ups. In Fusion, that never happens. And near the end, when you CAN mess around, it feels like a fetch quest. Blech.
I dont hate it.. And i havent seen anybody who does.  :?
you didn't read the rest of the thread?
the only reason i "bought" fusion, i guess bought can be the new slang for stole(lol), is to get the extras on prime. i never played the actual version, i cant play shit on gameboy. i just d/led the game on a rom, i gave my frend the real copy after i got the extras and womped metroid one again..this time on gamecube. :)

all in all, why are you whining about it? is it really that important to cry over?
Well, I think the controls were top notch, with the ability to climb up walls and hang from the cieling.
My reasons for hating Fusion were best expressed in a review posted here at some point that i can't find right now (it appears to have been lost in the site move).  But I agree with those upset over the lack of freedom.

I will admit that I thought the controls were spot-on, and I hope they carry it over to Zero Mission (albeit with the proper wall jump back in place).

The thing is, tho, if I remember how you described it correctly, wouldn't that end up having to be a power-up, and a late game one at that? Being able to climb up a single straight wall would wreak havoc on quite a few of the original rooms.

hehehehehehehehHAHAHAHHAHA whooo
That's the whole point.  It's tough to pull off, but once you master it you can sequence break like nothing else.  Same with the bomb jump and, to a lesser extent, the Shinespark.
uh yea, the only reason i hate fusion is because it's extremely gay in every way.

Explain how it is "gay"?

It likes to have sex with similar games???

Er, anyway, what would be the point of using the same sequence breaking manuevers for each game? There's no challenge at all, so then sequence breaking doesn't become a challenge endavor like it is now, but more of a way to just cheat and get things early, which is boring.
exactly. i'm a little worried, myself, about zero mission being 'super metroid 2.'
Aha!  Is it because the suit starts as blue which is sometimes considered a "boy" color?  And Samus is female?

I hate it when people use "gay" as an insult to something.  I'm not offended or anything, I just think it's very immature.
