The reason for the "none" option is that to be in any of these areas I'd have to be playing this game. And this is not a game I feel compelled to replay, the first run was fun but didn't inspire me to really sit down and play again. That said any following run gets bogged down by Agon being the complete pile of shit that it is, Dark Agon is vastly superior by way of looking less shitty and having some semblance of atmosphere.

Upper Torvus is the best area because it has the most, I want to say "varied" look but I'm not sure if that's really the best description, but runs into the issue of having to compete with so many bland and shitty areas that I cannot say that it is, in fact, good rather than just better than the others. Put it in Prime and it feel different since that game had many kick ass areas that I have more fun playing through. Therefore I wished to vote none since I could only compare Torvus to other Echoes regions and that comparison is difficult as standing out in a sea of lame doesn't necessarily make it good.

And I have no problem being the only one who liked the Dark World, if that is the case. Keep in mind my favoring of the Dark World could very well be for similar reasons as Torvus in that it's just better than the Light versions of the areas.

That's a dumb way to judge the areas in the game. You like Torvus, but don't like the game in general, so you don't even give it credit for being good? Makes no sense to me.

But I guess that's your right. I'm just sick of seeing decent games slammed by unappreciative fanboys.

I agree that the Agon Wastes sucked, they were kind of bland and didn't carry the "desert" idea well at all. The oddly soundless lightning striking right in front of your face was incredibly odd too. Torvus was an improvement because it was new and well executed. It felt industrial and wet. I liked lower Torvus too, but it was confusing.

I love Sanctuary. I don't see why you think that area sucks so much. Tons of interesting circuitry, huge spaces for screw attack, neat music, cool enemies, inspired level design... it all worked. What's wrong with it?

but it's not that. i'm hardly a metroid fanboy; the only games in the series i actually play once in a while are ros, prime, and zero mission. the others are just ok. i don't like echoes because i don't think it's a very good game. so again, just because you say something doesn't make it true.

Mmkay, well, it seems that in most cases Prime 2 is slammed for being "un-metroidy" or "not as good" as the first prime and then people throw it away as garbage because of that. If you just think the game is bad because it is, then that's a whole different debate. Though I still don't really agree. And the idea that absolutely no area in the game deserves any kind of recognition still seems needlessly harsh.

If I'm judging areas in this game, I'm going to do so in the context of this game and this game only. if you'd like me to compare across the entire series I might be able to but that seems pretty unfair. The point is that this game if full of places I don't like, Torvus didn't blow me away either, I just saw it as less crappy than the other regions. So I can't just declare it "Good" without the qualification "For Echoes" because Echoes has a great many environments that I find unsatisfying. I guess I could have voted for Torvus but I don't really want to claim a favorite in the given group since there was only one option found at least decent so it would given an extra vote to an area based primarily on disliking the others. Or, you know, I just wanted a comedy option.

I thought the enemies were pretty weak: Annoying robot part A, annoying robot part B, annoying large robot, annoying flying robot that can make your screen all fuzzy, assorted other annoying robots. There was not one enemy I had fun fighting and considering the number of enemies they throw at you in Sanc, I'd like at least one of them to be fun.

I disliked those large spaces you mention because in general they were just that, large spaces of nothing. I also found those bottomless pits all over the place in such spaces to be really fucking stupid wastes of time. I'm not a big fan of the "Hey guys! Robots!" look, so the level design didn't strike me as anything special aside from the horrible architecture seemingly designed around those very silly pits. I also, thinking back, remember it as mostly Sci Fi footure green and bottomless pits, so if there was more it probably didn't interest me much. The green also reminds me of Daikatana and that's never good.

I give it credit for having the only fun boss in the game in Quadraxis, though. Even if it was piss easy and only for the right to the most useless weapon in the game.

All I remember of the music was that robotic ee-ee-EE-ee-eeeeee type of sound happening a lot. It strikes me as really Goddamn annoying.

I really wanted to love this game actually, I honestly tried, but the more I try to like something the more problems I tend to find in it, so I tend to be most critical of thinks I like but don't love. I did like the game, for the record, I thought it was decent and pretty fun but I just don't feel the need to replay it when there are other games I like more floating around.

The title of the poll is "favorite area in Metroid Prime 2?". So yes, you would be judging in the context of the game, and in that context, it seems your choice would be Torvus. Still don't really get your logic here. Doesn't really matter though.

I enjoyed the cool designs and I didn't find them to be any more annoying than the game's other enemies. Hell, I thought the beam troopers in Prime 1 were way more annoying than the robots in Sanctuary Fortress. The the robots were much cooler, too. I really liked fighting the Ingsmashers, because of how cool they looked and how dangerous they can be if you don't know what you're doing. Also they arbitrarily wake up and decide to attack you, which lends some surprise to the battles. However I do think that the alternating dark/light shields are stupid as fuck, and I'm guessing you agree.

Hmm, I don't mind bottomless pits at all, it really gives you the impression that you're high in the cliffs, which I liked. Tell me, did you hate Skytown? That area is at least as guilty of bottomless pits and huge empty spaces as Sanctuary.

Quadraxis would have been more impressive if they hadn't have introduced to smaller version of him a million times over beforehand. But yes, he was a cool boss, a billion times better than Amorbis.

...I'm not quite sure what soundtrack you were listening too... yes it had electronic noises, but nothing more grating than just about everything in the entire Metroid Prime franchise. In fact, probably less so.

I won't lie, I didn't love the game either. The repetitive gameplay, dark worlds, abundance of annoying puzzles, and occasionally bland environments set it far below Prime in my opinion. But I still enjoy it. I love exploring Sanctuary and Torvus, and I love the game's art style. I really think it had the best art of the entire series.

Haven't played Corruption yet, so not much to say about Skytown.

How can you rest knowing there's a fresh metroid game out there ?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
There are many things on my mind I have lost sleep over, Metroid is not one of them.

Metroid really isn't all that important to me, as much as it would seem otherwise given my presence here.

hm i never thought i'd see someone who liked the dark world im mp2 more than the rest of the game.

i also liked it quite a bit. the hurrying caused by the atmosphere is like an everyplace escape sequence and it was interesting to see how "bad" places became with the ing infestation. it had potential for more since there's a considerable amount of empty areas. more menacing and "crazy" enemies were needed, not reskinned mp1 enemies.

i think something that can be put as 99.99% true is that agon is a piece of shit. i think absolutely no one likes that place. it is just extremely boring. nevermind the big ass segment you have there if you try speedrunning it. even the pirate presence is so meh that the area still sucks bad. the other major part that sucks imo is the key hunt since it can't be done partially like the artifact/battery collecting while progressing normally.
i like sanctuary though. i like the atmosphere there and the look.

the large, open spaces are among my top gripes with the later 3d metroids. they didn't feel metroidlike at all, which yes, i believe is a valid complaint. when i pick up a metroid game, i want it to feel like i'm playing a metroid game. skytown fucking blows. in contrast, i really like bryyo since it gives off a very metroid feel.

i also liked the dark world in echoze, at least at first, because it felt like something new. i'm not a huge fan of being constantly pressured in games though so after a while it got old.

For me it was more that they really didn't add anything. It felt to me like, "Here. It's pit. Oh, and here's another, and another... here, yet more pits, you like those right?" It seemed more like a way not have to fill those large rooms with things rather than a neat feature that would actually add to the environment or atmosphere. The fog at the bottom certainly didn't help my opinion of it, that's some PS1/N64 Spiderman shit. The Gamecube was better than that.

As for the Dark World, I didn't felt all that pressured there, outside of the short period where you are without the Dark Suit. I just really liked the feel of the whole thing, like even the planet itself wants you dead. It seemed like it had a lot of  potential that they missed out on.

Definitely. Agon Wastes was a cool idea but extremely poorly executed. It would have worked if they had gone for a more Arabic, desert theme, with appropriate music and a more interesting setting. Even the weird holographic plants can't save Agon from being one of the dullest areas in Prime history. Agon sucks and I wish I didn't have to play through it to get to Torvus.

That's gotta be the first time I've heard that... sure, a lot of people liked Bryyo Cliffside better (including myself) but Skytown is still pretty awesome... great concept and awesome art to boot.
Sanctuary fortress.

weird, i actually liked agon ok. torvus is the truly shitty section of the game.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
you like bad things. Agon was inexcusable.
Agon = shit
Torvus = shittier
I gotta say that I actually liked the Ing Hive, due to it taking the bright, neon lights and pwning robots of Sanctuary Fortress and added some real darkening effects. Dark Ingsmasher? Increased power, more health = longer, more fun battles, although the same tactic gets a little boring. Dark Quad? Okay, i have to say, that actually was a little annoying. But why did they put the Spider Guardian into Sanctuary Fortress? Shoulda been in Ing Hive, then, it would have been a real puzzle, with it zapping you, while the dark air hurts you! Blue Neon Lights = Red Dimmed Lights = better neon! Then comes Quadraxis. Hoo boy, Quadraxis boosts the Ing Hive's awsomeness up to OVAR NINE THOUSAND!!!!!! Ok, enough with the internet memes, it really did boost the awesomeness though. Only part i hate about it is having to scan 5 different scans...  aiwebs_027 Other than that, its awsomeness.

if the spider guardian was in the ing hive, he would have been a bigger pain in the ass than even the boost guardian for some.
