Do you check this forum?  Or do you just say, "screw Metroid, SREW you NES!!!"

Really man, is it like you hate this game?
What do you think of this game?
Thread title:
I just kinda hate it because I'm bad at it, and I can't get out of the room with the missiles without dying...damn geemers.
Metroid was good for its time.
I hated it at first when I got to the first shaft that never seemed to end, once I discovered missiles and the long beam thanks to watching some speed runs... I shut up and enjoyed it... I think I have 100% currently and just have to beat the game but it's been a while I touched it :)
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Metroid 1 still owns.
Too hard to figure out for me on the MP unlock version. (GC controller has too many buttons)  :?  Did beat it on MZM though, not bad for the time.  The shaft rooms could be a little shorter, on the flip side.[/spoiler]
Y'know, I think the MP version is actually easier than MZM's metroid, if that's even possible. Enemies seem to be more cooperative, especially in Kraid. Example: When leaving the Kraid boss room, after the green room, there's the blue room that has the sidehopper, skrees and enemy pipe. You know the one. Well, in ZM, that sidehopper jumps up to you every time. In MP, he doesn't. There are several other things like this, like the rippers in the main kraid shaft. In ZM they aren't there half the time. In MP, they're always there.

Anyone else notice this? I'm beginning to think I'm insane...
I'm an old geezer so I had the opportunity to play Metroid shortly after it was released. The game was incredible for the time. Most games at the time were single screen or "scroll right" with very linear gameplay. Metroid was so advanced that many of my friends didn't understand how to play it. It really was a big step up, and I still enjoy the game today.

When I first played Metroid, I was so used to games that only scrolled right that it took me forever to find the morph ball! Going left at the beginning was unheard of! I kept getting dead ended wherever I went so I went back to the beginning and found the ball. Even then, it was only by accidentally pressing down that I found out what it did. :) Figuring out how to shoot missiles was another adventure. That's what I get for renting games without instruction manuals...
I think you're just insane.

Edit: Directed to Metal Ridley

Actually yes, I say SREW all the time.  It's one of my favorite words,  and sometimes is a verb meaning "to pizza", but can also mean "to neglect".

Seriously though folks, this game is a true classic, but man, kinda wierd and kinda hard to navigate (like metroid II).  Everything looks the same!
I thought this game was alright, I had it for a really long time before i beat it. I would always play and get somewhere, then die, lose my password, etc. Crap like that is really annoying. Starting out with only 30 health is a downside too. It wasn't till i unlocked it on MP and ZM that i actually played it to the end (yeah, i have the NES version, but since it doesnt save, its worse, i think.)

Not to mention sometimes my NES would freeze. That is the most frustrating thing of all.

But yeah, if Metroid had more differences in the rooms or something like that I probably would like it a lot more. I have only beaten it one time, and still don't have any clue where anything is cuz that was awhile back. Metroid II kicked its adam.
Hey all, new to the board here.

Metroid is still the best game in the series hands down. I'm also an older gamer and remember getting Metroid when it first came out.

What at game.

Metroid was hard, very hard the first time through. We didn't know what to do or even where to go. We don't get games like that very much anymore (you know, one's where you have to think). That's why I loved it so much then, and so much now. You had to actually figure the game out. Nothing was given to you (ala MZM), you really had to earn everything.

Metroid was revolutionary. Like what was stated before, this was one of the first games where you actually went LEFT and DOWN instead of the norm RIGHT and UP. It was also the first game (that I remember) where you had to DOWNGRADE your weapon if you watned to stand a chance against the metroids (I've got lots of bones to pick with MZM).

Games like this don't come around much anymore cause in today's gaming world if you can't-get-it-now or can't-find-it-now the game is doomed to die.

You've all got a great place here, and it's good to see that new games are at least giving Metroid a try. I'll be seeing you around.
