I haven't yet finished the game, so I don't know if what I'm about to described is explained later.

I was in the Sky Fortress, and at some point you reach an elevator that takes you back to the Space Pirates lab. The room you reach is the one where you first fight Dark Samus, called "main *something*" ("main reactor", or "main chamber" maybe).
When you enter the room, the creepy music starts (the one that usually comes before a scripted battle, the music that was almost always playing in the creepy areas of the Phazon mines in Prime) so I thought that there was probably some fight to trigger here.

I went around in the room but found nothing (well, there's a missile expansion, but that's not what I was looking for) so I searched for something to scan, and then I decided to look with the Dark Visor...

And there I found something very weird. In one of the corners there's a strange shape that can only be seen with the Dark Visor. It only shows the outline (like something that's drawn with a pencil) but if you move around it you see that it's a 3D object, but that only the exterior line is shown (a bit like cell shading effect)... I can't really see what it's supposed to be, it looks like a flying monster with 3 arms/tentacles but I'm really not sure.

Is this a monster that you fight later in the game? Does it have any use? Is it just an odd easter egg?
Thread title:
You won't fight another monster in the room where you fought Dark Samus for the first time (at least there is no boss. I'm not sure about an optional fight against something), so it could be an easter egg. Did you try to jump onto it, shoot it, etc.?
Nope. That's an indicator of where a Sky Temple Key is located in the Dark World. If you come to that same room in the Dark World you'll find a Flying Ing Cache that can only be seen with the Dark Visor. It's there as an indicator that you're in the right room, wrong realm.
oh, thanks.
But why is there a key to the Sky Temple there? Aren't the keys supposed to be in the same area as the temples?
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
The Sky Temple keys are scattered in each area of Dark Aether.
Yeah, spoiler him to death!

I answered.
Oh and the final boss is ....

And Samus dies in the end! ;)

SKY Temple.  Not SANCTUARY Temple.  Think of the Sky Temple keys as being kind of like the Chozo Artifacts from the first Metroid Prime.

Also, remember all of the dead Luminoth who add scans to your logbook? The ones that talk about hiding their keys? All of the keys are in the same rooms as those Luminoth, except in Dark Aether.

You get to the last boss with those keys, the last boss being a chimera-type creature with peices of it from every boss of every other Metroid game. Thing is, it's only ever 4 different bosses, and every copy of the game has a different combination. Mine was SA-X/Kraid(Metroid 1 version)/Phantoon/Flaggrha, and let me tell you...tricky boss.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
I don't think they meant literally spoiler him to death.

Hey, I just wanted him to be ready for the Chrimera-X.

You lucky dog. I got what many call the hardest 4 bosses. Nightmare, NES Kraid, Draygon (and there's no way to use the grapple beam trick!), and Queen Metroid.
Ok, thanks for all the replies.
I don't care about spoilers since I don't really think that the story is important in Metroid games (let's be honest, the story sucks). Also I don't really care about knowing what's coming next. I even play with the hints on because I don't like circling around with nothing to do, not knowing where I have to go next in a game where there is one specific thing that you have to do (either make it a completely free exploration game where there are tons of ways of getting around the difficulties or point to the place where the single item that will unlock your game is...).

I haven't finished the game yet but I understood that the keys in the big room with all the riddles (kind of like the pillars in the Impact Crater) are similar to Prime's artifacts... I just thought that the Sky temple was the temple of the Sky Fortress.
That's because you're calling it the wrong thing.  It's the SANCTUARY Fortress.  Not the Sky Fortress.

Damn, thats rough, I was kinda hoping for Nightmare and Queen, woulda made for an interesting boss.
I musta gotten the wimpiest one then...Arachnus, an Alpha Metroid, Acid Worm, and the Parasite Queen. Kinda wish I'd gotten something harder  :?
lol. they took out rapid fire missiles, though. i would think that would have made that guy a little difficult, at least.
Sigh, I'm a monster, look what I went and did to a legitmate thread....

I just discovered you're the final boss in my copy of the game. I'm talking about the one after the Chimera whatchamacallit during the 1 minute escape sequence from Obsidian-Pink Aether. I the stinkin' escape sequence was just 1 second longer I could beat the game; but no, Retro decided to make my copy impossible to beat.

Don't worry.  Yours still would end up killing me.

I found that the worse you do against that boss the easier it gets.  For me, my game just turned into Super Smash Bros Melee.  I just had to beat the 20 man melee.  Which still was a challenge -- I had to use Samus.  Not Jiggleypuff (my best character).

;)

Ready and willing.
I got the full 2D Ridely package. Then I had to beat all 255 levels of Pac-Man with one hand behind my back. Funny, I never noticed that robotic arm with the rope on my GC before...

I found a site that has every possible copy of Echoes. The one that they claim is the weirdest is the one with Super-Mega-Power-Ranger-Mach-25 Super Sayin' Goku as every boss and enemy. It's also the longest because you need to make Goku screw in a light bulb which takes 10,000 hours (and that's only if you're as good as kip).
Hmm... my version must be glitched since when I get to the end, there is no boss! All I do is enter the Sky Temple, grab the energy, and run like heck before the place collapses.

Too bad it only takes about 30 seconds to escape however: That kinda kills the whole ending of the game. Laughing
