Listened to Man on the Moon a few times now. There were a few "meh" songs, and I really didn't like Hyyerr, but on the whole it was really good. The quality was pretty even all the way through the album, and I definitely liked the overall sound of it, but while most of the songs were quite good there were few real highlights. Pursuit of Happiness was great though, definitely my favorite song on the album. On the whole I'd say the album is a solid 7/10.
out of curiosity, which songs do you think are meh? there's a few for me on that record too, but they've changed from when i first listened to it.
I was thinking mostly about Hear of a Lion and Day n Nite, and then Enter Galactic and Cudi Zone I'm kind of flip-floping on. None of those are bad but I didn't care too much for them. Right now I'd say I like Soundtrack 2, Simple As, Alive, Make Her Say and Pursuit of Happiness are the best ones, while In My Dreams, Solo Dolo, My World and Sky Might Fall are good songs that I probably wouldn't listen to except when I'm listening to the whole album from beginning to end.
Probably the best album from the 80's... which is largely because it doesn't sound at all like it's from the 80's. Hey blows my brain every time.
Also, about the rest of those albums:
Doggystyle/Sex Packets were not really for me. Their styles didn't appeal to me and I was bored most of the time while listening to them.
Food & Liquor was good most of the time, but even though I've listened to it 3 times there's almost no song that I can actually remember/put a name to. That is, nothing really stood out, but it's still a pleasant enough album to listen to from start to end. Dayreamin' was really good.
I liked Undun quite a bit. Sleep, The OtherSide and Tip the Scale were all very good, the instrumental ending was quite nice, and everything else was pretty decent.

that's probably because they're 90s hip hop, which i think takes awhile to get into for most people. think if you start listening to more hip hop in general, then put doggystyle back in at a later time you'd like it more. tracks like tha shiznit are just undeniably awesome though.

i'm surprised kick, push didn't stand out to you. that was like his biggest hit at the time and it's a really catchy track. agree about daydreamin' - that's my favorite song on the album.

Hmm, yeah the chorus is pretty catchy, but I didn't think it was that good. Kick, Push II is a lot better imo, probably one of the better on the album.
I'm enjoying that more than I should. Like it's 75% just noise, but it still comes together really nicely.
Lyrics in case you can't hear them (copy/pasted from description)
I WANT TO CUT YOU OPEN, SEE YOUR COLOURS RUN! I WANT TO PLAY I WANT TO HAVE A FRIEND TO HAVE SOME FUN! DON'T BE AFRAID, DON'T CRY, JUST GIVE IN THIS IS THE LAST TIME I'LL SEE YOU AGAIN SO COME ON, RELAX, JUST SIT STILL YOU BELONG TO ME AND YOU WILL KEEP QUIET AND LOOK ME IN THE EYE COS I WANNA FUCK YOU, WANNA FUCK YOU WHILE YOU FUCKING DIE
yeah I love shit like that, Futret makes a lot of noisy songs, Renard too. It's kind of like dubstep where most people just think it's shit but then there's weird people who get into it.
