actually looking at more pictures now, it's kinda hard to tell. Like he looks totally white in the pictures I saw on last.fm, but yeah I'm not sure now.
I've tried to start listening to Hip-Hop like 4 different times, but I never end up "getting it". There's about 5% of really good stuff that I like and the rest is just... meh.

dude what, since when did you listen to Childish Gambino?
He just has a crush on Donald Glover (completely justified, I should ad).
Well it couldn't hurt at least. Although I should say I listened to those Wiz Kalifa songs you posted and I did not like that at all, so anything along those lines is pretty much out the window, I feel.
i should make a hip hop thread on gamelogs so we can just post all the good stuff we find there
really? weird. This morning I was looking through my torrents and saw I had downloaded that whole album, then I come on here and tbob posted one of them. Either a big coincidence, or it was tbob that recommended them or something. was probably drunk and I don't remember, idunno.

so no #basedgod pretty much?
What did you think of that tonedeff song I posted earlier?
I dunno, it sampled a really sweet piano tune but the song didn't really get anywhere.
Really, my biggest problem with hip-hop is that I don't tend to focus on the lyrics until I've heard a song multiple times already because I'm generally much more interested in the melody. And the majority of all Hip-Hop (that I've heard anyway) is very centered on lyrics while the melody is usually simple and repetitive, so I get bored too quickly to ever get in to the lyrics. And, tellingly, much of the Hip-Hop I actually do like is the kind with more interesting melodies. For example, B.O.B

i've got some good ideas for you then (and not wiz khalifa :P). i'll make a list of some good stuff later tonight.

EDIT: Also, by "melody" I don't exclude vocals.
Actually I'm totally the same way. What they do with their voice plays a huge role for me on top of the beat. Have you listened to Cudi's pursuit of happiness? Make sure to listen to the whole thing, has some really good Ratatat bits.
On my phone but I'll link you some good stuff when I get home, since I'm sure Ark will post different things than what I have in mind.
I'm the kind of guy who wants to make lists of everything, but can't make lists of anything. I think the biggest list I could make and be fairly certain about is favorite music artists, and that would be a top 4. Anything beyond that and I'm completely lost.
yeah i'm thinking about expanding it to 30 because there's no way i can just pick 20. also don't think i really put them in order beyond maybe the top 3
Music is really hard because you can't judge it as quickly as videogame and movies. I mean you can change opinion over time about those too but with music that's pretty much a rule rather than an exception for me. If I made a top 10-20 albums list it would contain almost solely of stuff that I though was "good" at best the first time I listened, and some stuff I didn't care for at all.
yeah i tend to prefer making constrained lists which are more meaningful to pretty much everyone, such as a list of my favorite records of the 90s, which i've been meaning to put together as well
I have so much stuff left to listen to from the 90's. But it's really hard to dive in, and I have like 100 albums from the 60's, 70's and 00's I need to listen to as well. There's too much good music.
might also try kanye west's graduation, or one of his earlier albums ... i'm not the biggest fan of his but pretty much everyone i know fucking loves like all his stuff. a couple of his songs are among my all-time favs though.
