Despite its size, China was a pretty bumshit country prior to communism thanks to colonization, opium-related embargos, and then getting raped literally and figurately by Japan in the early 20th century.

The main thing I was trying to say was that China hasn't invented anything significant recently because it was industrialized way later than it should have thanks to not having good ties with the west... Unlike Japan.
