new wave was pretty awesome honestly

been obsessed with this song (well, the whole album) lately, so i've been trying to learn it on guitar. it's fucking hard because all of the pinch harmonics (lol just try and count how many are in this song), not to mention there's like 5 solos in a row at the end >_>

what a great song though. now if only i could get my voice to do all the crazy things his does ...
yeah sounds challenging

realistically it's probably too hard for me at this point, but it's fun!

your show's coming up soon, right grenola?
sunday, yeah
it weirds me out how much preparation and fucking about is going to have taken place for something that's only going to last 30 minutes and will be over in the blink of an eye
red chamber dream
lol yeah reminds me of my theater days

well, break a leg
I'm not properly nervous yet but I will be in a couple of days
red chamber dream
it's kind of fun though isn't it

the nerves i mean. it's great when you fucking kill it and get that feeling, but the nerves go away, at least for me
yeah, maybe

if it were a punk band or something where enthusiasm is more important than accuracy the adrenaline would be more useful lol

what type of stuff are you playing?
well lol

one of the funny things about bands is that any time you ask anyone in a band what kind of stuff they play, they always say the same thing, which is "well, it's hard to define actually"
and I'm about to do the same thing, but it's essentially jazz, if you define jazz as "soloing over chord progressions"

there's only three of us, me on guitar, a drummer and a bass player, and we're doing instrumentals, so it's jazz rock I suppose

you could probably call it fusion, but I've tried to keep the tunes short and melody-driven and avoid the kind of nonsense you get into with eight minute guitar and bass solos in typical fusion stuff
they're still tunes, you know, you could whistle them
tried to keep the self indulgence to a minimum

More or less on Repeat every free moment since the beginning of the week. <3 Yoko Shimomura

i always thought 3 pieces were pretty cool, sounds like fun
I quite like that FF track turtle

I do like how a lot of music from games has kind of given younger people a licence to enjoy orchestral and choral stuff by stealth, by virtue of it not being "classical stuff my dad listens to"

they feel like they own it and so they're not afraid to like it

I was talking to some people who play professionally in a string quartet about this a few years ago and they didn't know the origin of half the music they play nowadays, because loads of it is from games
the second violinist kept trying to hit on me though, which was a bit annoying

ark yeah hopefully it will be, there's just a lot of responsibility on my shoulders this time

Yeah, I would say I would have very little appreciation for most music if not for video games - to this day most of what I like is instrumental, either orchestral or electronic, both stemming from what I first heard in games. Film scores are good for this too.

ugh, right? i mean, a second violinist? trash
hah

I'm sure there's a joke about fiddling in there somewhere
