does anyone have a picture of the US cart and the UK cart, one of my friends has just bought a "US version" of the game, but the cart looks different to my version and it looks a bit strange, just want to make sure he hasn't been fobbed off.

Here's the US one:

Here's the EU one:

And here's the JP one:

If the bottom looks like the one on the left, then it's a fake (a friend of mine had one of thoses)
no sorry guys i meant the actual cartridge.

This is the fake cartridge he got. Maybe your friend has the same...? (it's written "Nintondo" on the bottom^^)
that is the one, how do you know it is a fake?

Well, for one, the real US Metroid Zero Mission cartridge is all purple background, with just the text "Metroid" in one font and "Zero Mission" in slightly smaller font underneath it.

You can also check for spelling errors - "recycling" and "Nintendo" tend to get misspelled a lot. (ewj's cart appears to say "LICFINSED" instead of "Licensed" - dead giveaway.) Printing errors are good, too - compare the real ESRB rating logos (ESRB's website should have them) with the logo on the box/cart - if it looks funky, you probably have a fake. Same for the logo of the game system etched into the cart, as with the "Game Boy Advance" logo on top of the image, and the artwork of the cart/box itself. (I once saw a box for the "Finding Nemo" GBA game that had really washed-out colors - it looked like some great demon was covering the lands in a second darkness.)

Also, I don't know if this counts for much, but my Zero Mission cart says "AGB-BMXE-USA" instead of "AGB-AMRE-USA" - I haven't done any research on that portion of GBA carts, but my hunch is that all carts have the same identifier, so that would also be something to check.

AGB-BMXE-USA is the US one.

AGB means Advance Game Boy

With BMXE. The B means it's one of the newer games (post-2003), the MX is the abbrieviation for the game (Metroid X I guess), the E means English (language, not nationality)

USA means it's a USA release

AGB-BMXP-EUR is the EU one, AGB-BMXJ-JPN is the JP one

The P means euroPian, J means Japanese, EUR means EURope released, JPN means JaPaN released

As I said, it's written "Nintondo" on the bottom :

That's enough for me to prove it's a fake...
