So yeah, ill let the video do the talking (literally)

What do you think, it was ripped from the ISO this morning.
Thread title:
That's definitely Jennifer Hale, or a very good impressionist.

But it begs the question, assuming this was in the depths of the game's coding, why would it not be used?
Even though you say it was only found today, I feel like I've heard this somewhere before now. It seems familiar in any case.

It feels like something that would've been used for the intro scene where they placed that other speech in some versions of Prime. It would've been weird for Samus to be talking about herself in the third person like that though, because from what I can assume based on her other voice acting work it must be Jennifer Hale. (And TheGreenManalishi agrees) That's the best thing I can come up with for why this wasn't used if it was available for the game in the first place.
I know Jennifer Hale did the (minimal) voice acting for Samus in all the Primes, and potentially Brawl. I'm familiar with her voice from the vast amounts of dialogue her character is given in MGS4.

This seems very likely to be her.

Hm... I think I pronounce a few of those names differently, like 'zeebs', but I think I just pronounce 'Samus' weird. Still, that's interesting. Do you think it was just unfinished, and they hadn't modulated the voice at all, or do you think they were actually going to use that voice as-is?
Samus was always supposed to stay silent. That's why they didn't use it.
I didn't know the voice was supposed to be Samus'.
Based on the text, you wouldn't think that Samus was saying that. But if you take the voice itself into account, which we're pretty sure is Jennifer Hale, then it becomes a little confusing. At least to me.

People say this sometimes, and it always confuses me.  Remember the opening of Super Metroid?  She won't shut up!

Cool find.  I have no idea why they cut it, but I doubt it has to do with Samus using the third person.  No one would have noticed that it was Samus's voice -- all she does in the game is grunt occasionally.

(Btw, I've always stressed the "Mother" in Mother Brain, but Hale stresses the "Brain".  Probably makes more sense.)

Link and Mario are meant to stay silent because they have tonnes of personality, despite not talking. Samus, however, has very little in terms of a discernable personality and it is that reason that I believe Samus should speak. And no-one could do it better than Jennifer Hale.
Oh yes, pvm01.dsp!  I hope you were just as freaked out and excited as I was when I first heard it.

I found and posted this (at SCU) back in July 2006, you might remember it from there.  I know the MP3 I made was circulated a bit, even referenced for the pronounciation for Zebes on Wikipedia.  That is until the people at MdB declared it a hoax/fake.  The authors of the GC DSP player for winamp were the first to discover it.

As for unused tracks, here is some beta music from the Kiosk Disks that had the space frigate demo of Prime:

A hoax? Who's saying it, then?

Anyone with a female voice?

Ah, well never mind, thought I found something new, thanks for telling me that SkippyJr.

It sounds an awful lot like Samus Jennifer Hale.

Do you have any idea what an impressionist is? I know it's for real, but still, dumb people do not and will try everything they can to convince you otherwise.
If you'd read my first post, then you'd see that one of my immediate thoughts was 'maybe an impressionist'. If it is, it's a good one. Maybe it's the audio from an interview where Hale was asked to read it.

I still think it would have been better than the impossibly deep-voiced man from the beginning of the game.
I don't care either way to be very honest. It wasn't included, and we can only postulate that was for a reason.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
she's typing in SM, not talking.

it's very possible she's quite shy to speak but likes to type her thoughts in her logs.

Samus?!? SHY!?!?

"Hi, I'm Samus, and... oh, sorry, I'm just shy meeting new people. Oh well, time to blow this planet up, too! Oooo! A space pirate! I may have trouble talking to him, because I'm shy, but I can blast him to smithereens just fine!"
I thought she was talking. Plus, it could be argued that she talks to herself in Fusion on the elevators.

Yes, but again, only in text. When they say silent, they just mean that you don't ever actually hear Samus' voice.

Samus has several monologues and a few bits of dialogue in Fusion; not to mention the intro monologue in Super. It's not unprecedented, they could have included it without ruining her (mostly) silent protagonist style.
Fear Me! (Or else...)
But Samus doesn't actually say anything in there. IT'S ALL TEXT, which is the point I'm trying to make here.
Well, based on the Other M E3 Trailer, Samus is going to speak at least a little this time around, so I don't see where the argument is anymore. Yeah, she's been mostly silent in the past, but Super and Fusion definitely gave us a window into who Samus is with those bits of text. Of Mario, Link, and Samus, she's the closest one to breaking that tradition and the only one I can easily see having a voice of some sort. She's going to have one for Other M, and she had speaking lines in Brawl, even if they were simple taunts. I'm getting the feeling that based on these four games Samus is not going to stay silent for much longer.

Do I mind this change? Not really. With the way the series itself is moving, it makes sense for Samus to evolve. Could it still work without her speaking at all? Absolutely. Half Life does it perfectly enough, and so does Zelda for that matter. But it seems Nintendo has other thoughts, and I'm willing to see where it takes Samus in the long run.
