Hahahaha go being able to read directions in Japanese.

To unlock the Time Attack Mode in the game, beat the game so you have that green+yellow Samus symbol by your save, then hit A on a file.

When the 'Start Game' prompt appears, simply hit up, left, right, then down on the d-pad, and enjoy Time Attack Mode.  ^^

Go AJ for pointing out the site that only wants Japanese players to send in their Time Attack times.  :o

Thanks Scarlet. So much. Thank you. :)

:):):):)
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
Holy crap, it works! Gogo AJ and Bulleta!
lol no way
Oh, DUMB! It's only normal mode. Hahaha. I like hard mode too much.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
How do you get a green and yellow Samus symbol there?
lol no way
Beat the game. Then do this on the same record.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Bah.  That's embarrassing. Embarassed

im curious, what differences does "Time attack mode" have?  I'm lending out my zero mission cart at the moment.

It gives you a password to submit to Nintendo for a contest NoA seemingly will not have.

Nintendo of Japan is having a contest (you win an orange+red+Samus logo GBA SP for the best time), and AJ linked me to the contest page, and I peeked around it and saw what looked like how to open Time Attack.

Go here to see what I saw: www.metroid2002.com/redscarlet/sillynintendo.png

AJ says it's Normal Mode only, but is playing through to see if Hard mode opens too.

Basically it's a secret mode that Nintendo of America likely had no intention of revealing to us over here in North America, and was only openable on the rom/cart with codes or hacks.

But it does seem to save your times, so if anything that might be it's most worthwhile advantage to having.

In the Japanese version, it looks like you can choose 'Adult text' or 'Child text', likely that being lots of Kanji in Adult, and all hiragana/katakana in Child.

The contest itself was your fastest 100% time in Time Attack mode, which I hope that 3 or 4 hours+ time in the pic is nowhere near their best. o.O
lol no way
Only playable on Normal. Gives ID and 2-line Password. Only 1 record at a time. % not recorded, although it may be included in way-too-long password. 100% shows that it was 100% though.
hm.. the endings any different?
(damn you, you made me want my Zero Mission back... must..finish...Z.O.E, Rygar and MGS2 first...)
lol no way
Nope, endings are same (or the one I got was anyway, 30%, 35:26).
hah. im so glad you didnt have to beat Easy to unlock it. Still haven't played easy, don't plan on it.
I'd go do it, but I'm too tired.  I need to go to bed.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I have to try it later, the mysterious Time Attack is finally revieled.
Darnit! I just gave it back to my friend, I had it on loan. Well, maybe he'll let me try at school tommorow.
Go Scarlet and AJ!

I've already done one run on it and I can say it has been WAY too long since I last played. At least I got sub-hour though! Laughing Hopefully we'll get a contest here too, now that time attack has been found!
Yup, works in european version too.. I don't know where you live so.. just excuse me.. :D :P ;)
Yup works here in Sweden too. I just don't know what the fuss is all about though :( I can't see any difference between a Normal New Game+ & this really. Except a code etc that Euorpeans & Amercians can't use anyway. So what's the point?

Nice find though even if it seems a tad non-useful to me :)

Edit: Maybe NoA thought there would be no real competition since there are people like us (though I take no credit for being any good really) :D But I doubt no one in Japan is aware of sequence breaking etc by now... Who knows?

Edit2: What's the site where we "should" post our codes? The one in the picture above is "Forbidden" for me (might be connected to the fact that it's secure heh). I wonder if it's possible for us to win by posting fake addresses or something ;)

Edit3: Well I could've tried to reach the japanese Metroid site... Obviously, the URL posted above in the pic is the right one :D

Edit4: Hmm got a new record as you can see in the records topic. Just did a speed run & I still got a code so I guess I keep answering my own questions here :) But has anyone tried doing both 100% runs & pure speed runs? If that's the case, does the game save only the fastest time or does it make a list of separate runs (you know, 1 list for 100% & 1 for any%)? Because I doubt I can beat 38:36 with 100% Rolling Eyes
weird, doesnt seem to work on my ROm,and yes,i completed the game...
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Then don't use the ROM, it most likely is only coded on the cartridge.
I don't see what's so special about Time Attack mode. What's the difference? I told my friend and he unlocked it, but I don't see any difference.
