Twinsen - Pilot Episode Demo

As some of you may or may not know, Ive been working on a platformer with my coder for about the last two months, we're very happy with how everything has progressed and the time has come for the first public demo.

but first, why is it called the 'Pilot Episode Demo'? because this game is a TV show, and features the first level as the pilot episode, the first level may change in the final game, just how the first episode in a TV show may be remade if the show gets picked up, time will tell.

so, let me get on with it.
here are some screens:

what does the demo feature? play it yourself and find out!

the controls are as follow:
* f4 - toggle full screen
* shift - run
* z - jump
* x - sword
* c - magic ball
* enter - start
* arrow keys - move
but, if you have a controller, I highly suggest downloading joy2key and playing the game with that

spend some time mastering the controls and how Twinsen moves and attacks, there are also a few secrets in the demo, if you don't figure them out after a few weeks, I'll tell you them

You have another topic about this right below this one. Why not use that?

It looks like it is an enjoyable game from what I see here, but unfortunately I can't tell any more because I have a Mac.

... Why? Why? Why haven't I realized you're on here AND Pixelation? Why can't my feelbe brain make out the fact that two people on two forums with the exact same name might actually be the same person?

hehe, hi rox, Im not all that active here but while we were working on this game I was obsessed with super metroid and I got some inspiration from it so I thought I should make a topic here incase anyone notices it

It's interesting. I got it a while ago but am just now posting. As for "secrets", I can't seem to find any, besides:

Getting 100 point things give you a life thing.

...Is it possible to get on that little lip behind the very first house (his?). Ive tried for quite a while, but can't get enough height and it doesn't seem you can wall jump.

if you kill the enemies in reverse order of appearance you get 999 points instantly
getting 999 points unlocks a few abilities, such as a quadruple running jump

and yeah, you can get up to that cliff at the start, it can just be a bit hard at first

also, a new demo is coming soon

the first level is a little different, it has the enxt level, and a lot of changes, big and small to the engine

and more secrets to look for Wink

Wow. *Goes to Twinsen icon*.

EDIT- After trying to run past enemies, how do you do it?? I got killed by the first dragonfly because it kept following me.

the dragonflies are scared of the ball, so if you through the ball at them you can make them move away from you, when they fly aware from the ball, start running the other direction and by the time the ball has returned to you they wont be able to see you so they dont follow you.

it takes some practice, but once you figure out a good way to do it, its pretty easy ;)

This looks, fun, but the link you posted says the file's unavailable. Evil or Very Mad

It looks pretty good though, from the screenshots. Can't wait to try it.

Edit - Never mind, I got it from your other topic.

It's great so far! Nicely done, this looks like it has some great potential.

I still can't get past the dragonflies, even when holding sideways, jumping over him, holding other side, and throwing ball. I need the ball to get past the plant, and the ball is already flying away to scare the dragonfly.
Argh, this is hard. :|

Interesting. However, you seem pretty godly at this game. Either that, or I totally suck. I didn't even know you could double jump without 999 points..... aiwebs_019

Is that second part really there? I can remember jumping there on my first tries with this game, and I couldn't get anywhere. Do you need 999 points?

EDIT: Um, I can't double jump, but in the video you can. Doesn't that make it seem easier than it really is? If it had something to do with the things you did in the options, I am wrong because I can't tell what you're doing there.

EDIT 2: I got 999 points! It was much easier for me to just jump over everything. However, I still can't jump any more times than one. aiwebs_016

hehe. well Ive been playing the game a lot in order to find bugs etc, and we'd add every ability one by one, so it started with just walking and jumping, I quickly got used to exactly how he jumps, then came the combo slash, then the regular slash etc, since everything was so gradually implemented I was very used to everything so I have a very good grasp on the controls.
infact, I will be doing some speed runs when the time comes :P

the second part isnt there in the demo you have, thats the next level you see but it isnt quite finished yet so it hasnt been released publicly yet ;)

in the options, I was just turning off the sounds to make puting in the song easier, and turning off the shadow so the game didnt slow down while I was recording, because the program I used to record is pretty crappy :P

double jumping isnt very hard, its just:
jump, up/diagonally up to either side + X

Ohhh. I got it a little bit. The double jumping feels weird. I managed a 3x jump, but I can't seem to do that again, you have to be pressing four buttons at once. I love how any jump higher than one is a screw attack. laugh new

Also, I did notice that turning everything in the background and the shadows off lets the game move much, much smoother (for me, anyway.)

A suggestion I have is to make the double jump really easy by simply pressing Z again, I wouldn't have ever found it if you hadn't told me. I can still barely do it.

oh, you may need to check your keyboard settings in your control panel, your keyboard might have a limit of 3 keys pressed at once. very annoying :P

even better, if you have a gamepad, I highly suggest downloading joy2key, its what I use to play ;)
