everybody knows it's true
So, here's what I propose. Post your best times in each of the Metroid games, to obtain your TMT. The following rules apply:
...
1. This is an informal leaderboard. I am not going to require video proof, route commentaries, or anything like that. There will be no prizes given - you are competing against yourself. The satisfaction will come from taking a game you've never given much thought to, and becoming competent at it - thus seeing a HUGE improvement in your TMT. Accordingly, please don't lie. Just don't do it. I reserve the right to reject any times that are obviously BS. Don't try claiming new world records in here. In fact, any time you claim that's even close to a world record is likely to alert the BS-sniffing guard dogs, unless you're already known by the speed running community for that game.
...
2. Pick your lowest time for each game. If you've got a 2:30 any% Fusion run, and a 3:46 100% Fusion run, submit the 2:30 time.
...
3. To the best of my knowledge, the original Metroid 1 game does not show you your completion time. (I'm not sure if this is the case for the "bonus" Metroid found as an extra with MZM, or with the Prime-Fusion linkup.) If this is the case, use a stopwatch/clock to time yourself, and report the actual clock time used as your completion time. (Alternately, you could record the run, download it to your computer, and count frames. Be my guest if you want to go to that much trouble.) It's not perfect, as you'll be including elevator time, item acquisition time, etc... but it's better than no time at all.
...
4. I realize that not many people own every Metroid game out there. I also realize that some people may have completed a game before, but not remember what their time was. Here's the deal - if you have not completed a game in the series, give yourself a time of 20 hours. If you have completed a game in the series, but don't remember the completion time, give yourself a time of 15 hours.
...
5. Emulated runs are acceptable, assuming that no savestates or cheats (slowdown, etc.) were used. Emulated runs using savestates or cheats should not be used. EXCEPTION - if the only completed run you have for a Metroid game was emulated, and used "cheats", then you may enter a time of 15:00 for that game (the "completed but don't remember my time" penalty) instead of 20:00 (the "never finished it" penalty).
...
6. After you've submitted your times, calculate a TMT for yourself. Round all game times DOWN to the nearest minute. (An MZM run of 1:35:44 would be recorded as 1:35.) Please try to be accurate with your math. (Add hours together; then add minutes together; then convert - example - add all times to get 45 hours and 145 minutes; 145 minutes = 2:25; 45:00 + 2:25 = 47:25)
...
7. Post your results. I will keep track of the leaderboard at the top of this post.
...
8.Times over 100 hours will be noted as Oh Dear. Times over 130 hours will be Oh Dear*2 Since Corruption came out, I'm just gonna go ahead and list the times over 100 if you post them. Especially if you've beaten 8 of the 9 games and still have such a high time, because jebus, are you kidding me? Oh man. I mean, I can understand if you list Metroid as 15, just because you're too lazy to time it, but the rest of them do it for you. [/rant]
...
9. Posting your times without an accurate TMT will not be submitted unless I'm feeling like a really nice guy, or I have a chance to make fun of you.
...
10. Have fun. Or, I will sic my avatar on you :).
Here's an example of ME (Mr. Aran)! :o
Metroid - 15:00
MZM - 00:41
MP1 - 3:24
MP2 - 3:13
RoS - 2:34
Super - 3:57
Fuzion - 1:26
TMT - 30:16
Taken from SCU with permission by MonsterERB (it's true), so yeah. Here ya go. I grabbed the times from posters there that are here :0. I didn't feel like showing the individal runs inside due to my disease of lazy.
Everyone is familiar with speed runs - how fast can you finish a game, using whatever skills and tricks are at your disposal. Here are the recognized world record holders for the 9 Metroid games currently out there (info from Speed Demos Archive):
NOTE 1 - these are the lowest times for an any% (pure speed) run - not for low%, 100%, NBMB, etc
NOTE 2 - for simplicity, seconds are omitted
...
Metroid 1 - 0:18 by Spider-Waffle (Blake Piepho)
Metroid: Zero Mission - 0:28 by spidey-widey (Andrew Brockmann)
Metroid Prime - 1:03 by zoid (Besmir Sheqi)
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes - 1:38 by DJGrenola (Alastair Campbell)
Metroid Prime: Hunters - 1:16 by DSGamer3002 (Zack Mintzer)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - 20:00 YourMother (Arkarian's Mother)
Metroid 2: Return of Samus - 0:59 by carlmmii (Carl Megaman2)
Metroid 3: Super Metroid - 0:32 by Hotarubi (Satoru Suzuki)
Metroid 4: Metroid Fusion - 0:48 by BioSpark (Kirk LaBuda)
...
This means if you could create the perfect speed runner, with optimal skills in every Metroid game - someone who could simultaneously match all of these world records, their "Total Metroid Time", or TMT, would be right around...27 hours and 2 minutes. O_o That's a combined time for all 9 games, mind you - for someone combining the skills of Spider-Waffle, spidey-widey, zoid, DJGrenola, DSGamer3002, Arkarian's Hot Mother, carlmmii, Hotarubi, and BioSpark into one uber-package.

JaggerEdit: updated some info and reorganized the post. I have no clue if Mr. Aran's still here. I could just add 40 hours to everyone's totals, but I'm really lazy at the moment. Ask again later.
JaggerEdit2: Updated up to 2011 (and kirby's times because I've actually been in his streams regularly, and mine because I'm me), ignored Other M times.
