You won't believe what happened to me yesterday!
I was trying to perform the "Reset glitch" AKA "Time/Space beam" and went to the Brinstar place, where the idiots were jumping from wall to wall. I got to the bottom of the place, and turned left. Bombed the wall, and continued. Now, there was a metal door that you couldn't open because it's meant for the escape. I made the T/SB Glitch and got trough the door!!
I contineued in Tourian, and walked to the end. Then i realised that if i would open the door in front of me, i would attack Mother Brain from back! I opened the door, and went in. But... There was no one. I was stuck. It isn't meaningless, but it's kinda cool! Try for yourselves!
Thread title:
Hm? The Etecoons' shaft isn't anywhere near Tourian.

MJ's talking about Crateria main street, where the Space Pirates jump from wall to wall.  The rest of his explanation should make sense now.

I've played around with the space-time glitch more than a few times, but it's never let me through a metal door.  However, its behaviour is only predictable on the console -- in emulators it varies a lot, sometimes doing very bizarre things.  In my favourite case, the space-time beam screwed up Zebes so badly that although the bosses I'd defeated were back, some of their doors didn't lock behind me.  I could go into Spore Spawn's room, fight him for a while, and then just leave.  (For the record, the fight would reset whenever I re-entered the room.)  I remember this working for the Torizo, Spore Spawn, and Phantoon... can't recall which of the others it worked for.  And I have no idea how to reproduce that malfunction.

So in my experience the space-time beam is green Kryptonite on the console (same massive effect every time) and red Kryptonite in an emulator (many different effects possible).  The question is, which one were you trying to kill Superman with, MJ?
*Confused*

I just did a minute ago the same thing in the same place, but this time i turned right to the "Old mother brain". And guess what? I did the Glitch and left the room. Now, here i am in the "Escape sequence" With no timer!!! The place is blowing up, but there's no hurry since the timers out.
I'd post a screenie, but my Dig-cam is broke.
everybody knows it's true
I get.
Holy b'Gsus! Now this is the mother of all oddities! Tested with emulator and console! Listen:
Go under Samus' ship, hold up and press pause (Keep holding up). Now select the Charge,Ice,Spazer and Plasma beams together, And exit the menu. Now shoot up trough the ship. It will turn black! Now, jump in it, and voilã! Zebes explodes! You finished the game! Now when i thought of this, i realised that you can complete the game Very, very fastly! Just Skip Spore Spawn,Get Charge,Get Spazer,Skip Kraid, Get ice (Very hard to get w/o Varia), Kill the necessary bosses, and return to your ship, Do the Trick and escape Zebes.
If Red Scarlet can beat the Game under 1 Hour, what will it take to This?! I Think that it takes about 30 minutes! All you need is Charge,Ice,Spazer and Plasma. Simple.

Using the Space / Time beam in order to make the escape sequence come up for a quick end time is not accepted for speed runs, exactly for what you suggested.

rotfl. i thought he meant the etec00ns when he said "idiots," too.

Except maybe by Twin Galaxies.  They allow -- I am not making this up -- the frozen-Rio trick for skipping both minibosses in NES Metroid.  The guys who until recently clucked their tongues at the mockball in Super don't mind if you skip about 80% of the original game.  They're smoking some bad stuff over at TG.

No, they don't allow the murder beam, either.  So the Space / Time beam would not be accepted either.

Point.  I'm just saying they're nuts.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
I think it more means that they have completely different teams of people making the rules for different games.
Who cares, i'm not sending it to anywhere. I'm making the speed run.
And i discovered a new trick. But i think someone has found it earlier than me. It's called "The moatbounce". Heh, just go to the moat with the lonely missile pack in Crateria, jump on it (You don't need the grapple beam). Now you're standing in the moat. Now Bomb jump a little up, and then HBJ, now this should bounce you to the other side.
With this, i think it's possible to get Gravity suit without Varia. If i found this trick first, i want the credit.

People have been getting Gravity before Varia via an hbj for a long time, nothing new.

Have fun with your run, more power to you.

And note my :55 is 100%...the any% record by playing through normally is already :36.. so better hurry.

For that matter, you don't need to HBJ to do it.  If you move fast through the heated rooms, you can get the Speed Booster (not to mention the Ice and Wave Beams) without the Varia, and then shinespark into the Wrecked Ship like you would in a normal any% run.  And don't get your hopes up for anything weird to happen, either. Gravity without Varia is no different from Gravity with Varia.  (You shouldn't really get the beefed-up shoulders, but you do.)
I swear to god I have tried a million different ways to get across that moat without HBJ'ing (or super jumping) and not a single one has worked. Now excuse me while I go hang myself.
This might be n00bish, but what the flickerbat IS the Space/Time-beam? Question

Everything. THE LINE BETWEEN DIMENSIONS THAT STOPS THE UNIVERSE AS WE KNOW IT FROM BLOWING UP!!!!!
If you select all beams at once thanks to some glitch, and the fire it at some point, something will happen :D
They should call it the suprise beam.
There is a faq about it @ gamefaqs.
I'll be back. Maybe...
The Space Time Beam is a glitch whereby the Spazer and Plasma Beam are equipped at the same time and used on a door. This causes the door, if the conditions are correct (i.e. the room is big enough), to set all flags to 0, meaning all items and bosses will re-appear, all boss doors, the n00b tube and anything which remains in its current condition after you leave the room will reset, and you may return to Ceres station. I think that's right, anyway. You could check on GameFAQs, if you want to be certain.

There should also probably be murder beam and spacetime beam pages in the SM section of the site, though I don't think there are yet.

Yeah, but I was talking about the method Metroid Jelly wants to use to get there.
Finished. My time: 24 minutes. I'm just happy with that. By the way, i've seen a lot of speed runs, but never a low % speed run where someone would do the "Moat Bounce" Which would allow getting Only one SM, One M,One PB pack and Ice, Spazer, and Plasma beams and Gravity suit (And Morph ball and bombs too). That would be 9 %. Why is the lowest % Speed run 12 %?
Time bomb set get out fast!
Scarlet, I'm not always talking to you. :)  I was talking to Metroid Jelly, following up on your post.  I'm not fool enough to think I know anything about Super that you don't.

Because, as Scarlet said, the space-time glitch isn't allowed for runs.  You need to fight Mother Brain, and to survive that fight you need more ammo and energy.

There's a 12%?
Unless he knows something that Kejardon doesn't know, which I highly doubt, the lowest known percentage is 14/15% (without any S/T beam glitching).
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Because you need more than 5 regular Missiles and 5 Supers to kill Mother Brain (Zeeb skip or no Zeeb skip).  And 5 Supers and 5 Missiles without Charge Beam can't kill Ridley.

Quote from kejardon's 14/15% guide:
Morphing Ball  (1)
Missiles        (1 or 2)
Bombs          (1)
Energy Tanks    (3)
Charge Beam    (1)
Super Missiles  (2 or 3)
Varia Suit      (1)
[Speed Boots OR Ice Beam] (1)
Power Bombs    (1)
Gravity Suit    (1)
-------------------
                      (14)

Umm, there's tons of stuff about the game I don't know.
