Well just practice the Rundas fight.

Make sure you go into the room with at least 2 e-tanks, so you can guarantee you have enough for two full hyper modes: one for the pirate ships, and one for rundas.

Yeah I've been doing that, I'm apparently just really bad at managing my hypermode on rundas. I was thinking about splitting the first hyper out on the pirate ships so I don't get corrupted and maybe end up with a spare tank if needed, although I should just work on 1-hyper rundas.
Also, have you been able to screw attack gandryda consistently, or is it just hope she goes somewhere helpful and go for it? I managed to get 2 screws in, so I saved about a minute on my fight but they didn't do much damage between them either, so does the damage depend on what she's doing when the attack collides?

For rundas, I basically follow the strat on metroid2002, except take it safely. That means I touch him as much as possible to get corrupted earlier and/or increase my phazon when I am corrupted. I also wait a little bit before ripping off his armor, to be safe (so I don't accidentally run out of phazon).

Idea is to immediately enter hyper mode, then partial charge shot him until he's stunned. Rip off armor, stand close and shoot him with two partial charge shots (should bring him down to ~50% HP left); while doing this, walk back to avoid his slash, then get close to him. Walk back again to avoid his slash, then get close. He should start his armor up again, but by now you should have pumped two partial charge shots into him. Repeat.

Gandrayda's first phase is always exactly the same; she'll always run to your left when the fight starts. The second phase is really the hardest part IMO, and the most RNG. The last phase is pretty consistent, and I basically do what parax does in his segmented run - hyper mode, partial charge shot as samus-clone stops in front of you, then she'll turn away and start running away; start screw attacking to deal massive damage and probably kill her.

I believe so? there's no harm in getting hurt while in hyper mode cuz lolhyper mode

Ah. I just realised my runs aren't technically single segment because in both runs I had one death... Oops :| (And yes, both deaths were on rundas >_> ) Just out of interest, how is IGT affected by death + continue? I assume it just restarts from the time the checkpoint was hit?

yep, restarts from time you hit the checkpoint.

i use hyper for invincibility, but don't seem to corrupt any quicker.

i hate springball failing only when i need it to work but working just fine when i don't.

Have you tried flicking down instead of up to spring? I find it more consistent at least.

i usually flick down because of its consistency. also if i flick up and it works i often spring again when i land, but only if i don't want to

It could be that you're flicking too strongly so that at the top of the swing when you stop, the change in momentum registers as a downward swing.

Also Kirby, is the route in the 100% route thread up to date with new route?

true but if i don't flick it strong enough it likes to not happen. i just need to find a good balance i guess.

also i think it works better in open spaces rather than in tunnels. could just be me though

EDIT: finally! boost segment is done. saved at 1:03. if i keep this up I'll definitely finish under 3 hours. i can't wait to get out of skytown. everything looks the same here

Assuming no bryyo skip for 100%, the route in my youtube is the route to use except with the changes mentioned in the 100% topic, page 2.

Also ideal to get the tower e-tank in ice bryyo early, but screw that.

33% Normal in 3:04 (3:51 RT) Finally a proper single segment run (no deaths lol). Every fight went OK, I still need to practice rundas, although I went into the fight with 2 tanks so I didn't totally fail. The only bad section was the nova beam collection fight, which trolled me quite a bit. Also got the SSJ in gateway on my first attempt, didn't expect that XD

33% Normal in 3:00 (3:48 RT) OK so I did die about 30 seconds into nova beam fight, which was silly XD. My final 3 bosses were very good though and I guess I'm getting much more familiar with the game. I'm slowly coming for your record Kirby :b

~~OMG WORLD RECORD THIS RUN IS AMAZING THE GOD RUN, I AM THE BEST AT THIS GAME YAYAYAYAYAYAY SUCH A GOOD RUN~~

Single segment PB by 3 minutes. 3:19:49 RTA time. Terrible bryyo, typical boring elysia, but WTF AMAZING PIRATE HOMEWORLD (gandrayda and pirate commander and omega ridley were pretty much perfect).

Just a random run I felt like doing. I'll do more serious attempts (hopefully with nova beam and spider skip wallcrawls)... after mp1+2, which'll be a while <_<

33% Normal in 2:54 (3:41:53 RTA) Yay single segment because I didn't die anywhere, got the 1-tank rundas kill, first 2 phases on gandryda were solid, ghor was really quick, helios and mogenar were pretty meh, and omega ridley was maybe good but idk XD.

33% Normal in 2:51 (3:38:17 RTA). Mogenar and all the hunters were pretty bad tbh. Was behind for most of this run, but then by copying Kirby for Demolition sequence and Omega ridley, and getting the 2-round AU, I managed to save the run XD I'm still having trouble getting rid of that last obstacle in phaaze quickly though (the bug in the ting that's in the middle of the circle room, just before DS). I use X-ray visor, and shoot fully charged shots, but it doesn't seem to die anywhere near as quickly as when I've seen other people do it. Attached image of splits, because I find them pretty amusing.

33% Normal in 2:48 (3:36:02 RTA) Pretty happy with this run, although all my mistakes cost me a lot of time each. Messed up in fire generator, Mogenar was trash, didn't 1-cycle Beserker lord on the Olympus, Went to bryyo Cliffside instead of Fire for screw attack, lost like 40 seconds on spire for no good reason, and missed the 2-cycle AU by 1 shot. I don't even care though, because I got double cycle skip on Gandryda :D :D :D

Also some really long loading screens in places makes me worried about the state of my disc :/

32% Normal in 2:47 (3:36:11 RTA) Yes, so I died in this run XD Bryyo was really nice, and first half of elysia was good, but east elysia onwards was pretty sloppy. Did another run after this one and died on gandryda because I can't screw attack, and then accidently clicked no on the continue screen. welp. Hoping for 2:45/3:30 RTA pretty soon.

100% Normal in 3:57 (5:01:54 RTA) First run of 100%, pretty happy with this for my first attempt. There were a few places where I went the wrong way, or fell down a room etc, but still I think this isn't a bad run.

31% Normal in 2:42 (3:29:23 (R but not really)TA). First half was nice, second half of PH (Gandryda+nova) was bad, as well as the AU Bosses. Only 10 minutes to WR :O. Also this thread is starting to get a bit lonely XD
