Has anyone tried to speed run the beginning of this game yet. I can make it to the first save with 3 min on the clock. Is this good, bad or just plain normal. And i got 8 min saved in the ship too.
I tried it and got the same times. Probably possible to get 7 mins in the ship, haven't tried for that long. I got a 24 mins landing on Bryyo, which can definitely be improved too.
10:26  73% Normal, now I'm working on hyper. :P
I just finished reactivating Generator A and returned to samus' ship with 17 minutes on the nose. I'm going to run through Olympus as fast as I can to see how much time I Can cut off I'll edit this post when done.

EDIT:

The Fastest time i could get through Olympus was 10 minutes There appear to be invisible "walls" in certain areas which cause minimal damage. Cinematics seem to also add time
Just finished, at last.  Wink

Spent a ton of time just looking around and scanning, hence then high time.

Just beat it. High time is partially from me often getting up from the wii to do stuff on the computer.
People should not be embarrassed or feel like they have to justify high times on the first run thru!  Its a beautiful game!  You'd be crazy to blaze through it on the first run :)

Agreed.  I'm on my second run thru and going for a little speed, but I'm still finding it hard to resist just looking around.  The detail and artwork is just amazing!
I must agree, the detail on bosses in particular is impeccable. The height mapping on organic textures such as dirt is amazing it almost looks bump mapped although the Wii doesn't appear to support it ATM of course knowing Nintendo they did that for performance reasons. Parallax looks excellent bloom is perfect transparent textures are also perfect all in all it looks perfect. I haven't seen any graphical quirks so far. Mostly AI such as stupid Metroids getting stuck and forgetting they can phase through objects and pirates killing themselves at random intervals such as a commander just dropping to the floor for no apparent reason. Though it came in handy by ending that fight early it elicited a "WTF? o.0" I really wish I had a video of that but unfortunately my TV tuner doesn't capture video on this computer for some damn reason and it's the only one I have working at the moment.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
my bro got like 12:17 80% on his first playthrough. he would have beaten me if he didn't get lost after getting spider ball.

i'm working in 100% veteran now and scanning the stuff i missed. after that i'll go through hyper mode and then i'll think about a speed run.

24 min on bryyo was a better time than i originally thought. I took me six tries to single segment to there with a 24 min save. But it is a very high 24 min so it will take some work to push it down to 23. Off to try it.
Well single segment it's gonna be tougher yes, since saving in this game costs almost no time when you save at your ship...

I landed on Elysia in 1:02. It shows that sub 1h Elysia will be really easy. Lots of tricks I didn't use (Grand court bsjs, Gateway 1/2 puzzle with bsj, etc...) and my segments are not really optimized either. But I'm playing on Normal so bosses are pretty easy. Like Korrak can easily be 1 rounded.
So I wasn't too far behind with a 1:05 landing on Elysia, while playing a low% Normal run? That's good to hear.

I do see what everyone complained about with Normal being very easy. Haven't really run into much trouble just yet.
That's actually very good Prime Hunter, considering you only have 1 tank of Hypermode to work with. I had 3 at the end of Bryyo.
Err... scratch that time. I know there is NO way it took me an hour to go from there to defeating Ghor: 2:10 at that point according to my save, which is where I am now.

I think I may have been off just a little bit with that estimate. Probably more like 1:45, which after looking at that again sounds a lot closer to what I remember. I had two numbers right at least... laugh new

Im slowly working my way to byrro. Just one more segment. Im saved in the ship at 12min after the first generator.
03:13 upon landing on the Pirate Homeworld isn't too bad though, based on where I was earlier.

Missing 4 creature scans and 3 lores.

Now, prepare for a huge post about this game amazing pros and its few flaws.

Pros:
- Graphics: Holy flickerbatting hell, the graphics are amazing!!! I just love the bloom and textures, and the effects on each of the beams are amazing.
- The intracate details throughout the game: Seeing the changes in the PED suit was great. It went from a GF grey color scheme to a evil, blue, phazon spewing suit. Also, the changes in Samus' face was pretty nice as well. Also, having the turrets kill you in one hit if you shoot the GF was pretty hilarious.
- Music: From the epic title screen to the heroic credits, the music in this game was phenomenal. It is definitely the best of the Primes. It may even compare to Super's and Nestroid/ZM's. Prime's was too upbeat and techno, while Echoes' was far too ambient and quiet. In Corruption, each area had that special feel to it. Bryyo's tribal chants showed the ancient civilization. Elysia's soft chorus echoed throughout the buildings. The boss battles each had their unique, amazing music. Rundas and Gandrayda battle music was GOD. Oh, and Pirate Homeworld= Super's Pirate theme remix... :DDD. Speaking of which...
- Homages to previous games: These were everywhere, which was pretty sweet. They showed tanks with tallon, zebes, and SR388 metroids. There was some remixes of past music. Metroid victims disintegrate like in Super. The Metroid Prime shells all over the seconds to last room in the game were awesome as well. And of course, the final boss was so nostalgic that it sent shivers down my spine.
- The scans: Yes sir, the scans are back and better than ever! I loved how you could still choose to ignore the story or you could learn it through scans. Also, the funny scans are back as well! The scritter scan was hilarious, as was the Dark Samus brainwashing pirates scan.
- The story: A story good in a Metroid game? Blasphemy you say? Well I loved it. They really tied up the loose ends in the Prime series and set up Metroid II well if you ask me. For those who don't know the story well, here it is... *ahem*

For many years, the planet Phaaze created Leviathans to send to space. If one managed to hit a planet, it infected a creature and attempted to turn the planet into Phazon. The first infected cores were the Metroid Prime and Emperor Ing. The Phazon from the Emp Ing created the Ing race (you fight pure Ing in Corruption). You defeat both, but Prime steals you suit and becomes Dark Samus, which you defeat on Aether. This is when Prime 3 starts. Space Pirates accidently pick up Dark Samus while patrolling Aether for the remaining Phazon. The GF also take some Phazon to make the PED. Dark Samus brainwashes the pirates to do her bidding and has them steal Aurora Unit 313, which she uses to create a wormhole to return to her home planet, Phaaze. Now that Phaaze is under her control, Dark Samus can send Leviathans to wherever she pleases. She wants the pirate's planet to become as mutated as Phaaze so the pirates and Dark Samus can become more powerful. She shoots the first Leviathan towards the Homeworld. She also sends 3 more to Norion (which she travels to herself), Elysia, and Bryyo. Then is the real game.... you get corrupted.... you open the wormhole to Phaaze... you beat DS and the AU..... and you win etc. ---If you read that whole synopsis, then I applaud you---

I think it ties up with MII well because look at Genesis chamber. There's multiple Metroid Primes there! The GF don't want to face against a power that big, so they sent Samus to destroy that species once and for all.
- Bosses: These were fantastic and each were different in their own way. Both Ridley fights, the core fights, the Hunter fights, and the final bosses were all incredible. Also, Rundas and Gandrayda had two of the best videogame deaths ever imo.
- Difficulty: Yay, it was hard! I was worried it would be too easy, but Veteran brought a nice challenge. Hyper's gonna be fun.
- Hypermode: Another thing I was worried about was the Hypermode, but it was implemented very well and I liked it.
- The scary parts: The metroid breakout in Elysia and the GFS Vallhalla were two of my favorite parts of the game because of how eerie they were. Phaaze was eerie as well, which leads me to my next point...
- Phaaze: This is my favorite area in a Metroid game hands down. It's crazy environment, weird enemies, and long falls made it a blast to go through. It didn't hurt that you had unlimited hypermode as well. ;P Oh, and the 5 eyed.... thing really made me jump.
- Extras: This was a really smart idea and I applaud Retro for it.
- Controls: Obligatory mention here, since everyone loves 'em.

Cons
- The lack of a living Metroid Prime: I was all prepared to fight a heavily mutated version of that monstrosity, but I never did ;_;
- The lack of Kraid: Everyone wanted him, but he still didn't appear. I think an "Omega Ridley and Omega Kraid" combo would have worked for the Pirate Seed instead of just Ridley.
- Retro's avid attempts to end sequence breaking: The invisible walls are back, the surfaces that can't be stepped on are back, and now jumping sometimes won't work on slopes and screw attack won't work in tunnels? At least it looks like their attempts are futile, by looking at the secret worlds and sequence breaks.
- Reusing music: This one bothered me the most. I was fine with remixes of old tunes, like the Dark Samus battle and the Seed music. But there were two songs on particular that made me pretty mad, Metroid battle theme and Meta Ridley battle. Each was only used once in the game, but they were exactly like their Prime 1 versions, which was stupid. The worst part is, the Metroid Battle is in the dowloadable soundtracks! Other than that, the music was phenomonal though.

---IF YOU READ ALL OF THAT THEN I APPLAUD YOU EVEN MORE---

So, to sum it all up, this game barely surpasses Metroid Prime as my favorite game of all time and it is a must buy. It is incredible.
red chamber dream
Did anyone notice the reuse of the Phendrana Drifts music in Bryyo - Ice? Easily the coolest part of the game (so far) imo.

Ah, yes forgot about Bryyo Ice. Another amazing part of the game, though it was very small.

Yeah, I loved that part. (And not just because it was the only time in the entire game that I felt alone.)
red chamber dream
Yeah, I loved it because it felt so secluded from the rest of the game, like you're playing in a dream or something. It also reminded me very much of Prime I for some reason (hmm ... maybe the Phendrana music?), and that's always a good thing.
Yay! Finished!

I confirm, this episode was pure joy to play! Oh and I have to mention the final boss I defeated 20 min ago:

AU... or shall I call her Mother Brain the first? I was like " What the.... oh crap, I hope it doesn't have that RAINBOW BEAM OF DOOM!

All in all, even though I was sceptic in the first hours because of linearity, it all cleared up later on. Awesome job Retro!
Man... no wonder people are complaining about how easy the final bosses are on Normal Mode: Had NO trouble with them at all, and this was during a low percent run!

04:41 - 23% Normal

I'll admit though, I did almost die because I took the full force of:
AU 313's quad laser attack in it's final mode. Took out nearly 1/2 to 2/3 of my energy with that one. I was literally glowing red when I put in the final blow.

After going through this, I'm still in doubt that a 23% run can be done on Hypermode based on the last planet:
I can't see anyway possible to get through Phaaze with only that tiny sliver of health between us and corruption. The Hyperball portions of the planet take A LOT longer to destroy than on normal, and the mouth that grabs you after falling down one of the later shafts does too much damamge if you get caught. And don't even get started about the final bosses: Just due to the time needed to take them out I don't see it happening very easily.

If anything, I forsee a 26/27 percent run being the best we can achieve since we would need to acquire the necessary extra energy in order to get to the bottom in time.

But like I said, I think anyboby who manages to somehow pull it off deserves a medal of some kind. Wink
