22%, normal, 4:33. It was a lot easier than I thought it was. I only died on the hazard shield sequence break part. I guess I'll step it up to veteran next time, although I might wait to see if other sequence breaks are discovered.

Hypermode.
I'd probably get pretty frustrated attempting to do that on Hypermode. Once again, it's great to see how nicely this sequence break played out for all of us! Never expected that to happen, to be honest, even if I was secretly hoping it from the first few minutes of discovery. laugh new
Every Bit Counts
Holy crow Paraxade. Two birds with one stone. How did you manage that? Do you remember the hard parts, or was it all hard?
Bangaa Bishop
For me this is probably the longest FPS type game ever. No, I haven't beaten it yet. And unlike most of my wii games (that i've been leaving idle while simultaneously playing an MMORPG on my PC) my current game time has very little if any actual idle time in it. I've just been taking my time exploring, going back to every other planet every time I get a new item, and so on. I just got the hazard shield and my curret time is 14:41.

World record longest completion time ahead for me? >.>

Felt like rounding out my file, and seeing how difficult Veteran is if you've played Hyper mode (it isn't).
Hey everybody, I first want to say how impressed I am by your times and percents in this game!  I seriously cannot imagine completing the game that quickly because I'm terrible at it.  I swear, sometimes I'm playing and I think I hear Samus uttering about how long this game is taking and that she could do better without me playing in the first place.

But I digress.

Props to all of you for your expertly played games!

I'm wondering that if there will be full videos of the game since the play-times are much higher than those in MP1 and MP2 so far.  I'm definitely interested in watching anything that gets posted, but 6+ hours of gameplay would be quite large to upload, wouldn't it?

Thanks!  And keep up the great work!  :)
We're still in the early stages of the game right now. I'm sure that the times will start decreasing dramatically soon enough once we start collecting all of the tricks we know into a single run, as well as being more comfortable with the game itself. As far as I know, the lowest time is 03:47 with 22% on Normal, which was done by me. But there's a good chance that is going to be passed soon once that test run is completed.
Prime Hunter:

Thanks for getting back to me.  Wow, 4 hours is much more realistic in terms of size-of-videos, isn't it?

Though that was 22%, I cannot even begin to think about how long the shortest 100% could be.  But knowing you guys on this site, its going to be pretty low too.

What you all so is so impressive!
If craztad keeps on the pace with his test run, I think he can get around 2:30.
That would be one heck of a jump from my run, but like I've said a few times already, mine is nowhere near fully optimized like his will be. I definitely see something around 3 hours or so being nearly automatic (20 min ahead of me by the time we both get to Elyisia), but cutting off a 1/3 of my run may be slightly pushing it in my opinion.
I think I'm on track for around 3:00, and craztad is 7 (maybe 8) minutes ahead of me when landing on Elysia. But maybe my estimate is a bit off, it's been a while since I played through the end of the game (I'm on PH at the moment).

Your time for 22% is very good, but any% you can use Hypermode quite a bit more which will help on bosses. Anyways, I've learned a long time ago that estimating what speedrun times will be so early in a game's life is not a good idea. You always end up looking stupid 2 years later.
And then you also get moments where you need more than 5 missiles in a row for the Seeker puzzles and need to run and find them.
38%, Normal, 4:51.
Anywhere, everywhere
Just finished a normal run.

Time: 3:12
Items: 32%

This run was far from optimised and I did Pirate Homeworld on in one segment. However, I did do the hazard skip so I did one major sequence break, but I know if I tried harder, I could get MUCH faster.
A new mark has been set: 03:15 (31%) Normal!

Here's the path I took to get this time. I'm not sure if it's the best route we could take, but so far it's lead to the fastest route for me at the moment.

I had 4 Energy Tanks and 35 Missiles at the end, which was plenty to get through Phaaze without needing to stop and recharge much, if at all. The missiles were essentially there due to anything involving the Seekers.

Edit: BAH! Three minutes??? Where did you come from all of the sudden?
Nice times guys. Any of you have save times at certain points in your runs, for reference? Also, Prime Hunter, if you needed/wanted 1 more E-tank, the one after Seekers in Xenoresearch A Lift is pretty much in your way.

Is there an advantage in doing the Valhalla right after getting Nova, versus doing it after Ridley?
I'm not entirely sure if it changes anything if you wait or not for the Valhalla. I don't see why it really would now that you mention it. (Because choosing our destination while on the ship doesn't eat up the clock right?)

And I had grabbed that E-Tank the first time I went through Xenoresearch, but I died and restarted because I was trying to do the Screw Attack trick to get out faster and couldn't do it. (In the Zipline room, isn't there a trick that lets you use the screw attack on the bottom floor to get out instead of using the ziplines? I couldn't remember.) The second time I boosted right past it without remembering to collect it.

My reference times are at the end of the Test Run topic, since I figured that was the best place for them. I have my times for Bryyo, Elysia, Homeworld, Hazard Shield Skip, and Phaaze listed there.
So Early Seekers is slower/not faster?
I wasn't able to check it. I tried getting up to the missile expansion in the room with the 2nd Bomb piece, but I couldn't get at it from the correct angle with my Screw Attacks. (Or else I was barely lower than it needs, because I swear I hit the window dead on a few times without going through it.) I wanted to test that out though. The three connections on the bomb piece don't seem to rematerialize whenever you leave the room and come back, because on my low percent run I had to leave to find more missiles and the ones I had already taken out were still gone when I came back each time. So we could in theory dismantle the three connections, go and grab piece one, and then return for piece two and not have to go up high again in order to disconnect it.
Anywhere, everywhere
Heh, sorry to spoil your fun Prime Hunter.

I used the same route as you, but I got the e tank in xenoresearch. I think you need 25 missiles to get through xenoresearch, just for reference.
2:57. Normal 32%.

Lots of room for improvements, segments were not really optimized. Also, I started slacking off in the last segments because I was getting tired of my run. I could squeeze another minute off Phaaze, my AU part 1 fight was pretty ugly. Here are some tricks I did not use in my run:
-Bryyo Gateway puzzle skip (saves maybe 30-35s?)
-Bryyo Grand Court bsjs (saves 10-20s?)
-Bryyo skip 1 Turret (saves over 3 minutes)
-Early seekers (but I don't think that would save time.. see below)
-Command courtyard 2bsj for Energy cell (saves maybe 1 min)

I can see 2:30 happening with currently known tricks.

I haven't tested it, but I don't think it would be faster. Actually it would probably end up taking about the same time, it's just that in one case you do Ship grapple -> bomb part 1 -> seeker -> bomb part 2... And with early seekers you do Seeker -> Ship grapple -> bomb part 1 -> bomb part 2. As far as I can remember, the rooms you have to go through in either cases are the same.

EDIT: Anyone was able to do AU's first form on normal in 2 stuns? It seems to always have like a quarter inch of health left after the second stun :(
Anywhere, everywhere
Awesome job zell. I just vastly improved the homeworld and got 3:02, but it came just short of your time.
Quote from zell99:

I always have that problem as well. Hyper Missiles work pretty well against it, so if we knew exactly the time to fire them off, we could end each stun segment with one of them and hopefully skip the 3rd time. Not sure how well this would work, but it's a thought.

Edit: And now I don't fell as bad about being 3 minutes slower than you, rekameohs. Now that you've improved your time and zell came swooping in that is. Wink

Heh, in the course of one day we nearly cut an hour off of the record between the three of us.
AU is just like omega pirate. As soon as you do the "allowed" damage he closes up. So as prime hunter said, get it to just before that point then use a high damage, one hit attack. The only other option besides hyper missile is screw attack. When I tested screw attack in hyper mode it didn't do much damage.. but nothing does really (5 knockdowns to kill in hyper).

Not too familiar with the fight in normal but if one fully charged shot doesn't close him up then figure out how many normal shots you can take after that, before you need to use the hyper missile/screw attack. If one full charge closes him then have to use a partial.. think there's at least 3 different levels of partial so that could take some testing to figure out. Or you could just go all uncharged and count the number I guess.
