No R held at all ?? That doesn't look like a dash.
Anyway, can't wait to see your run.

Today, I wanted to test SA and light suit before Chykka. One thing I didn't expect is that I had to skip echo visor and that was a pain to learn. Also, something very interesting happened while I was trying to dash in Vault. The dash I did started with an unexpected kinda ghetto effect (the height was really really bigger than usual). Too bad I didn't record it so I could show you. The distance wasn't as big as I thought but enough to make me hit the ground past the spinner, while I usually land on the edge of the platform. Probably too random to reproduce.
About Chykka, he ended his dark phase with only one charged light shot. He also exposed his wings with one single dark shot. Not sure what I did to make it happen. I was messing around with screw attack.
Er, I should've been more specific; you do hold R for when you dash right, then let go of it to start moving straight back. Still a pretty short dash, but whatever.

(and I agree this should be split, I've sent it way off topic. >_>)
sure, exclude my posts from the split topic <.< :P Good luck with the run Miles.

Oliver: Sounds sorta like something tjp found in MP3 where you do the dash right as you're about to fall off the ledge, because the game gives you a big speed boost for a second which carries over into your dash if you time it right, which for some reason makes you jump instead of a proper dash; I'm not totally sure but I think it's possible in Echoes too, so maybe that's what you did.

Yeah, you're the first one to have done 14% after all.

For the dash, I hardly remember what I did. All I recall is getting so much height that I thought I had floaty jump for a sec. I can't tell if I was about to fall or not. At first, I thought of a ghetto effect since the edge is slanted. If I ever get to do it again, I might know, but that's the first time it happened to me among 100 tries. I've always made sure that I was at the very edge of the platform, though. If you have a MP3 video, I could tell if it's alike.
Also, would you mind giving your technique for the hive dash, so I can have different alternatives ?

On the hive dash I think I just figured out the angle which is pretty much the same as DJGrenola's video, waited a few years for the wasp to move into position, then did a short dash to the right and quickly space jumped and started moving back. It usually takes me a pretty long time to actually execute the dash right, but I've been able to land back there decently high up above the fall trigger.

As for the dash, tried looking up a video but it's actually not really noticeable exactly what it does just from the video so I dunno. Not the same thing maybe. If you still wanna see, then skip to 1:24 or so. link

The videos will probably be up sometime tomorrow. Don't expect anything spectacular; I only spent about a week on this, and I'm not exactly the most amazing Prime speedrunner ever. (Plus I wallcrawled past Grand Abyss.) But if I can get below 2:30, it'd be nice to see how low a full-fledged speedrun could take this.
This is going to be a very significant piece of documentation, and to me that's very important -- more important than speed would be.

so cool.  really looking forward to this.

I have watched it, and it is crazy.

Saw so far up to past Grand Abyss (cheater :P)  Very nice so far.  Ugh, we need to find a SW besides that transport...

Also, I found you can use the raised rock underneath the war wasp nest (for the sw) to ghetto jump on top of it.
I've watched it until Grand Abyss. I'm wondering if the SW you used was ever mentionned in the wiki. BTW the URL I had for the SW wiki doesn't work anymore. Is it down ?
Up until now, the gameplay quality is really good, speed-wise. And the video quality is really good also, Youtube-wise.
BTW, great Vault :)

just finished watching, was very awesome.  even though you did it in like a day the play quality was also very good.  you should consider doing speedruns. =p

also oliver, if you're referring to the sw with the sentinel, it was first discovered here:

:) Shame for me.
I don't remember it was in the wiki. I had watched them all and I don't recall this one. Might be wrong though.
A third of the SW entries in this run were new to me. Congrats to whoever found them. That BSJ to enter the SW you use to skip echo visor is so much more consistant than luring the ing.
There were so many good moments in this run that I don't recall them all. I've never seen SA doing so much damage to DS3. If it's not a speedrun, it's actually real close.
yeah, the echo / anni skip BSJ method is definitely more consistent. I don't know why I didn't do it that way in the first place; I switched to the BSJ when I was messing about doing one sitting SW-assisted any%s a few months ago.

I was actually really surprised by how fast this was given how much time I saw being lost in various places. I don't know where Miles came from, or how long he's been following the prime 2 "scene", but he should definitely be producing runs of some sort. I'd like to produce detailed seg-by-seg notes with observations, but I don't know whether I'll get round to that.

heh didn't expect a recorded run that fast. youtube isn't my preferred method but it will do for now (it takes forever to load at my place)
i'll check out the run during the week. judging by the comments so far, it's going to be a pants-shitting ride.

This run was pretty good...

It's just too much secret-worlding for my liking, but that's okay.  It's good in its own right.
not evil,just hungry
That's a good quality run for only spending a week on it.  Also, it's about time we had the 14% fully documented somewhere.  thanks for recording.

Tried out EI2 with infinite health/power bombs to figure out the feasibility of a spider skip if anyone's interested. Without using spider ball I could barely even get any of the tentacles to come out let alone destroy them; a tricky midair morph might work, dunno though. There's a spot on top of the cocoon where it's possible to stand, but it's pretty much impossible to actually get the height to get on it without spider ball (2bsj + SA doesn't get high enough). If you stand on one of the roots of the cocoon you won't take damage from the poison mist while it's low, but when it starts rising it's pretty much impossible to stay out of it without spider; when that happens you can use screw attack to try to minimize damage from the mist. As if all that wasn't enough it seems if you take too long on the fight, the poison mist permanently goes really high to the point where you can't even get out of it by spidering to the top of the cocoon. So basically for this to actually work you would need a method of getting to every one of the tentacles in morph ball that could be done quickly and consistently. For now 13% by skipping spider seems hopeless.

i watched the run and it was great. crazy use of SWs. that super door on the other side of the seeker door was funny to see because it is something that's impossible to see without SW use.

btw, something i couldn't understand is how Samus went into the SW after grabbing the final Sky Temple key. i don't remember any SW in that room and the jump looked normal, unless it is one of those holes in walls and the darkness of the wall made it hard to see.
He entered the room while the map was on a different room, which allowed him to go in and grab a key, then hit a different one of Shrine Access's loading triggers, causing Defiled Shrine to unload and putting him back in the SW.

Here we go...

Miles, you rock!!!! Good execution!

+ Finally did the scan dash in TAS
+ Got the instant unmorph before scanning the post to raise the door to GFMC
+ No hesitation in scanning the post to raise the crate this time
+ No hesitation this time for the the ghetto jump and scan dashing in Sacred Grounds

~ Is boosting to load the next room with those worker splinters faster than walking?  I say this because the time it took you to aim up to shoot could possibly be the same time it takes for the next room to load if you walked and aimed while traveling in the room.
I like turtles.
Hey, this is looking good.

It was about .8 faster than my method for shooting it immediately, but there's probably a better way to do that... If there is a faster way to do it than boosting straight to the loading trigger, though, I doubt it'd be by much.

I timed the segment at 3:36.967, though I don't entirely know how accurate it is (thanks for fading in from black after you skip cutscenes, Retro!). I can upload a cutsceneless version of the segment if anyone wants it, since I had to make one to time it anyway.
