or find a way through the game without collecting ANY health/ammo powerups along the way. (Heh, good luck with THAT one... Wink)

I've been attempting that off and on, and am still stuck at Slench 2+escape (beating Slench and Trace and the three Guardians with 99 health all without collecting any energy is really, really hard).

if you want, you can go to alinos and get the magmaul, and come back and after you beat trace, you dont have to fight the guardians, just the snow beast if you take the alternate route out...

dont know if that would be any easier though. :P
Trace is actually the hardest fight of the three.  When the battle starts, he either has impeccable aim and takes off about forty of my seventy remaining energy, or misses me completely, then his alt form ALWAYS hits me several times, so that I have, like twenty health at the Guardians, and they finish me off.  The alternate escape route wouldn't work, because remember I can only have at maximum forty UA, and am usually at twenty or so after the Slench fight.

I can only imagine how hard that must be. Although, I am beginning to wonder if the powerups actually add to the final percentage, since even after I got 3% scans and most of the percentage for the green category (The items/weapons/etc. category) I ended up with 15%.

I've been trying to figure out where I got the 15% from, and this was the only logical explanation I could think of: 8% for the Octoliths, 6% for the weapons, and the extra 1% for the things that must be scanned. I only got about 3% of the scans in the end, so depending on how much the scans factor into the final percentage, this could be it. It's definitely not a 1% scans = 1% completion ratio, or else I would have a higher completion percentage.

Plus, when I did my 18% run I pretty much scanned the same things, but also had 3 E-Tanks and 3 UA Expansions. By not having those, I only lost 3%, so the expansions don't seem to be a 1/1 ratio either. I'm very confused as to how they factor everything in for the final percentage.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
Simple explanation: unlike other Metroid games, there aren't exactly 100 items that increase percent. Probably there are more than a 100, so each one is only like .9% or .5% or something.

Which of course means we're going to have to figure out whether to go by the lowest whole precent, or the lowest percent period even if the game doesn't display percent to that percision.
No, there's far under 100 items. 95 missiles (you start with 5 and each gives you 10), 400 ammo (start with 40, each gives you 30) and 7 e-tanks.
thinking yoshi got it right, just in reverse.
I can assure you that scans count toward your total percentage.
Yup, scans add to the total percentage.
Yeah, I knew that scans count for the final percent: I meant that we don't know the exact ratio between the scan percentage and the game percentage yet, so we don't know if my 15% is the lowest we are going to get unless somebody finds a Sequence Break.

My question was whether or not the green category (The one off to the right that doesn't seem to be connected to the overall scan percentage) actually means anything to the final game percentage. I haven't been able to find out yet, and if it doesn't that means that people can pick up powerups and not worry about their game percentage going up. I seriously hope it doesn't, or else anybody who is going for a lower percentage than 15 had better have a lot of skill at dealing out damage and not taking any... and I mean A LOT of skill. Wink (Just look at my 50 deaths that run for all of the proof you need: I cringe at the thought of attempting Slench 4/Gorea without ANY powerups...)
Liku, have you started your new run yet? I'm interested in seeing if you can beat my time...

EDIT: There has GOT to be a better way through Synergy Core. It's made me stop speed running.
What's so bad about Synergy Core?

I've started my new run, just completed the first Celestial Archives since there's nothing you can really "run." College has got me a bit busy, I need to focus on school a bit more. I'll definitely get back to my run sometime in the next week.
It's just frustrating to get right, and a lot to redo if you screw it up.

Anyway, I did another run. 1:38:02.
My first 100%-time: 4:02 :D
New 100% world record: 2:01.

Could have easily been sub-2 hours. I accidentally missed the three lores by the Attameter Artifact in VDO Visit 1. Also, I missed Alimbic Insignia in Ice Hive and had to go back for that. I recorded my route, so after I make a change in it (turns out you don't have to fight the Voldrums in Alinos) I'll post it.
awesome.

Well, Slench 4 is like one giant tank of bitch, but I've beaten Gorea with one energy tank. I had 23 health remaining. HARD. AS. HELL. Evil or Very Mad
Err... my bad: I meant the powerups that restore health/ammo, not the expansions themselves. The 50 deaths during my 15% run can tell everyone how hard it is without having any energy tanks or ammo expansions. (That may just be me, but it was VERY difficult without any expansions to back me up)

And how can somebody already have a 2 hour 100% run??? I can't even complete the game normally under 2:30 yet! (I admit, 100 percent runs have never been my strong point, but still...)

It's not very difficult to take the scans while a normal run. So 2:xx are possible.
My new any % time is 2:09:10 with 24%, 1 death and 61 hunters&guardians killed.
Damn you for being so fast. I. MUST. BEAT. YOU. Evil or Very Mad

It takes time. My first attempt finished with 95%.
How come noone is posting here?
I finished my Speed Run (again) with 1:37:16.  New Record.

Anyways, I'm gonna start my Low Percentage Run soon.  I finished Celestial Archives with 2% with the Red and Blue Health pickups.
These are the things that I picked up:
Missile Ammo
Red Health
Blue Health
Octolith (Not sure if this one counts)

I've tried to run back to the ship every time I picked up something and found out that Missile Ammo+Red Health= No % on the main screen.  So that means that Missile Ammo and the Red Health < 1%.
Hell I've tried scanning a few things and they still don't add up to the percentage, wierd.

Can you show me the exact route you take to accomplish this (insane) time? I might start posting here again, but I haven't updated myself on new speed tricks etc. because I lost my Metroid Hunters pack.

Anyway, my old time (now lost) is 1:47:22 :x  Can do better
Nice time, I really need to get on this damn game and beat it. But that damn Echo Hall trick is lame and I don't feel like getting it down.

i need to finish some of my runs so that i can stick it to you guys...

My problems are the bosses. I take such a long time to kill them...
I plan on running Hunters again around mid-June.
