I'm actually still stuck at the Dark Temple, but I've only been here about 30 minutes.
I'm sure you already knew this, but this game definitely occurs after most of the other metroids, since a reference is made to samus blowing up a planet.
Furthermore, a very casual reference is made to Space Pirates using Metroids as an energy source, so the whole 'last metroid in captivity' not only seems to be a total joke, (we already knew this) but metroids are essentially being treated more and more like plot devices, and less and less like uber-enemies. Hey Pirates, whatever happened to 'taking over galactic civilization?'
At this point, I would dearly love for Samus to accidently learn what the 'real' name for the Space Pirates is, so that we don't have to call them Space Pirates any more. Sure, this name is perfect and corny, just as it should be, lending an air of stylization to the game. But now that the Space Pirates are starting to be compared to normal sentients, even using words like 'spinster' in their logs, they need a little more dignity.
In happier news, it seems that Dark Aether and it's own phazon ave been around for years, so that means that Metroid Prime merely consumed phazon, and not generated it. This would mean that the source of corruption on Tallon IV was whatever was in the meteor, and not Prime itself? Was Prime just a normal metroid at one time?
