I think it's mainly due to the bulkiness of the rest of her suit. Note that she's using the plasma beam at the moment, making her right appendage so much longer.

Awesome pic.  I also must commend you on your thread title.  I love the text from NES Metroid -- the record will show that I'm responsible for 90% of the "pray for a true peace in space" jokes around here.
