Nope. The first time you enter the labs you go down a few rooms in a linear fashion then in the room with two other doors and a staircase, there's a cutscene trigger. The cutscene takes you back outside the labs and the door locks behind you. Would need a way to get out of bounds or something.

Oh, and as far as that idea of going back after getting Ice Beam and going across the lava lake is concerned, I think we can forget that now. The door locks behind you once you get the beam so you're forced to go along the path.

And no, I hadn't tried anything with the home button in my attempts. Not entirely sure where you'd be doing that here, although I haven't tried using the home button to help with any tricks before so I have no idea what I'd normally be doing anyway.

I think the idea of the home button abuse is to aim at one of the locks on the door and fire, press home, enabling you to move the pointer to where the next one is with no delay, home button again, fire again, home button, move, home button, fire, et cetera.

I think the room locks as soon as you get in there, actually. The door back out to the lake is still locked when you take out all of the enemies too.

As far as the home button trick is concerned, I don't know how well that would work in this case. If I'm close to the door I can switch targets pretty fast, and at a distance it's hard to get the lock-on to switch even if I'm pointing right at a different one that I haven't fired at yet. Plus the fact that in this case for me it isn't as much about aiming but more about being able to get in and out of first person mode quickly, something I don't think the home button would really effect.

I can get the wiimote covering method to work pretty well. I hold my left palm against the left-front side of the wiimote so I can quickly close my fingers over the front and then move them. You don't even really need to cover it completely, just bend your fingers enough that they're in the way and then move them back straight. And make sure you let go of B or it won't put you out of first-person. Once you get the rhythm down you can switch perspectives very quickly, and since you don't have to move the wiimote your aim doesn't get thrown off.

I'm wallhacking the big lava room to see if you can skip the Ice Beam in there. The big monster won't let you jump across the lava to the south platform when you first get to the room. So I go back through the locked door once you've pass the room on the north side. However, both south exits (Nav to the east and corridor on the west) refuse to load, even though the west door is green. I'm trying to find a way to sector 2 to get the wave beam before the ice beam, but I havn't found any physical path yet.

Actually, "Home"ing in the missile trick can make the POV swap even faster.
Swap to First Person, Fire missle, Home, Cover Wiimote, Home (sends you to third), (While third is transitioning) Home (Aim at next lock), Home (to return to game), First person, Fire missile, repeat.

It should speed up the POV changes to the maximum and allow "instant" aiming.

If we can't get it with that kind of engine manipulation, I think it isn't possible (cause that's TAS imitation)

Uh, how exactly are we supposed to change which target we're aiming at when in third person? Or do you mean aim there with the pointer anyway since once it goes back to first person you'll be pointing right where it is?

I'm not actually doing the "cover the pointer" version of the trick. When I was back there yesterday I was doing it again the way I had been already, with the "twitch the controller to the right and back" method. I can still be pretty fast and accurate doing it that way, and it's what I'm comfortable with at the moment. (AND it did open the 3 lock door already, so I know it works there at least.)

Speaking of which, has anyone else actually used my method before now? Is it something that would be viable for using missiles normally for everyone else, or is it just me? Because I've been realizing that depending on what enemies you are fighting or how many there are, missile expansions (or at least a few of them) might actually become useful again now that we can start firing them as fast as in the other games.

That exactly.

You could actually Aim in the Home menu BEFORE heading to Third Person so that when you switch back you are right where you need to be. (You did catch me though on that pattern, I was telling you to aim while in Third Person, I didn't mean that)

And I'm pretty sure you created the trick. No one's made mention of it before but I'm pretty sure we can start toying with it now.

I meant more has anyone else tried using my rapid fire method or is everyone using the "cover the remote" version of it?

And yeah, I know that if we get past the 5 seeker door it won't mean much in the end, but it's still a victory in my book since it's something the developers didn't expect us to be able to do.

no idea if anyone's found this yet or if it was even unintended but i believe you can get the missile expansion in the square room on the right of sector 2's map "early". it's the one with floating ice platforms where you have to hang onto either of underwater wall holes, then roll into a little tunnel containing the expansion. it seems like you're supposed to do this with gravity but you can just jump down from the ledge and grab the whole. i did it while having space jump but that's probably not even necssary.

so maybe useful in 100% so you don't have to go back there after getting gravity.

I also did. It ws also mentioned by someone else that you can also grab the ledge from the stalactite you make fall. It's definitely quicker with Gravity Suit if you're passing through, as you need to loop back to an earlier platform to get out. Running...underwater...is...slow.

this is probably also known but in the big square room at the top of sector 1 (near the entrance to the research center) you can just shinespark to the roof, then screw attack out of it to reach the energy part in the corner much faster than using the platforms.

I think it's faster to get the missile tank with the dropping down method, because there's nothing else in that segment of Sector 2 to get on the cleanup route, once you do have the Gravity Suit. So getting it later means unnecessary backtracking.

Something I discovered. If you get a full charge beam, then you jump into an enemy and not onto their backs, you'll sorta be knocked back a tiny bit without taking any damage. It's probably pointless though.
