Super Metroid had blocks that could only be screw-attacked to death, as far as I know. But in X-ray, I think they looked the same as regular shoot-me blocks... On the other hand, I'm not totally sure either..

Yes, this is what I meant.  The "Screw Attack block" (as in, the little block with the screw attack symbol on it) was new to Fusion.  But there might have been blocks in Super that could only be screw attacked.  They just don't show up w/ the X-ray visor.

and yet, x-ray visor happens to be something that both zero mission and fusion are sorely lacking, it made finding things far easier, and just more spiffy, than having to powerbomb every single room in the entire game.

Fusion introduced "twitch-puzzle" element upgrades into the series, theyre a quite a few HUGE rooms in fusion that require some decent puzzle skill to figure out, and then some nice twitch-skills to get.  this is a great addition, and i don't think they were in zero mission enough (mainly because of the map was so damn tiny)
I really enjoyed a lot of the twitch puzzles in Fusion.  Though some drove me crazy the first time through, they certainly were fun :D

To me anyway :P

There were blocks in Super Metroid that could only be Screw Attacked, however, as you suggested (and I'm confirming), the X-Ray Visor didn't show them - they only appeared as solid walls.

In retrospect, despite my repeated nailings of Fusion for its design, I have to grudgingly admit it's a fun game even if the designers intended for it to be a different style of game than the typical Metroid title. At least, that's what the producer guy said in an interview recently.
