That is quite the guide video.

Thanks Miles. And that really should be up on the site *cough cough*. >_>
MP2 also a bit MP1 speedrunning
one thing is for sure i will not use ibbf before my pb is like 1:05 or so lol
Well, about IBBF and most other things, I just want to say that my goal is not to speedrun.
I'm still not quick enough to break any kind of records, or even get close.
I just want to be able to get a few more tricks under my sleeve.
Maybe I should add the AR code for moonjumping while I get the IBBF. Then deactivate it. Hehehe...
But I could perhaps learn IBBF better if there was a really good tutorial video with good notes to show some kind of fool proof method. The one with annotations still doesn't explain how the jumping works.

Would be great with that video. I am currently a bit lazy so I won't play for a bit, I feel.

What isn't consistent about the 3BSJ to get the expansion? I don't care about activating the pirate cutscene. The other method seems almost harder, because my rolljumping skills are non-existent. Whenever there's a trick that involves exact timing, combined with precision, I tend to not be able to do it, without a tremendous amount of luck. Which means that I won't go back to trying that trick again. At the very least I need to know the trick isn't random and that I know exactly what I'm doing, why and when. Just trial and error isn't efficient in most cases.

I was fairly proud having gotten the grapple beam, and gotten back to Magmoor, without spiderball. And this is on PAL, which means you can't use the waste disposal to get back to Main Quarry.

I think in order to have a chance to learn the rolljumping, and perhaps some bomb jumping tricks and dashing, I'd need someone here physically to show me. Reading text is like "huh?". Totally incomprehensible to me and a waste of time. A video might work occasionally for more simple stuff. Such as ghetto jumping. What can I say. I have a few handicaps, but I still don't want that to totally stop me from being able to do at least a few more tricks to spice up the games I love.
Moon jumps - because scan dashing is cheating!
I like how this is in the prime 2 section. Just sayin >.>
Well for the early beam ammo expansion, the 3BSJ is just really, really inconsistent. I don't know why, it just isn't, and it's ruined countless runs for miles because if you activate the pirate cutscene (which you will if you don't get it first try), then you lost tons of time.

But if you're not interested in speedrunning it, you can still go back and try the 3BSJ method as many times as you want, as long as you haven't exited the room (or else the blockage will appear in front of the morph ball slot and you need the turret).

The rolljump is preferred, and I highly recommend learning it. But you don't need to do a rolljump from the turret to get to the higher ground in the middle of the room for the beam ammo expansion; you can alternatively do a scan dash off of the other turret / spider track (or freeze dash if you miss it and it's fully scanned).

I think just watching miles's runs for rolljumps are best, because it's generally pretty self-explanatory. Roll off a ledge, then unmorph and jump at the right time while holding R (and hold l AFTER the unmorph), then you got it. Again, you want to change your grip so you can press X then B really quickly.
TheOthin: What you got against mooning? winky
By the way, the most powerful thing is to use the wavebuster against PQ. So why don't u guys just use it?? Mr. Green

Pawbdr: Oops. Actually didn't realize until now that there was the same topic in both sections. aiwebs_020

I see. I know I'd be more comfortable trying that 3BSJ after having gotten rid of the pirates, because I'm so easily distracted.

I'd love a tutorial for rolljumping with also getting to see the controller. I have problems with the brain connecting to my hands. Like, I think I want to do something, but my hands don't always catch up or do what I wanted to do.
I've read about rolljumping many times, trust me. I tried getting early Screw attack. At first I tried that scan the door dash. But that was just ridiculous.
I failed at the rolljump because I just couldn't press/hold the right buttons at the right time. To me, it's much harder than it sounds.
Like "Hold R and roll off a valid ledge. Unmorph when 1/3 (or whatever) of the ball is covered and hold L and jump." I'm like. OK... Wait, HUH?
I had like 4 or 5 energy tanks or even more when I got there, and I ran out of energy, falling down that ledge. That's how long I tried it. After that, I never got back there. Plus, after that, there are still a bunch of other ridiculous tricks to perform. Like freezing the Rezbit and jumping up to the BS. And then the puzzle to get the SA itself. Meaning you have to RJ again or scan dash and touch the lower sections. I just know I can't do that. I can't even dash jump in MP1 to get the missile in Hunter cave. For some reason, among other things, I feel it's easier to dash jump to the right, than to the left.

I might have a better chance if I could see some good video, that preferably also showed in realtime what buttons to press/hold and exactly when. Just reading about it doesn't help me. And watching a video, you don't know what's going on behind it. I watched the video to get early SA countless times. And I watched the 6% demo video as well and there are lots of tricks there. But I was more like "ahh, that's cool". I am not a pro, and I have a couple of handicaps.

How is the video coming?
Show me a way to get Wavebuster before that fight and costing less time than it saves in the battle, without using external devices, and I'll go for it every time.
TheOthin: One word Action Replay.Mr. Green That's the only way. But it's not faster than regular missiles anyway. But more fun!
Wasn't aware SDA had changed its rules to permit external devices and to value subjective fun over speed.

By the way, the most powerful thing is to use the wavebuster against PQ. So why don't u guys just use it??

It's not used in any% because it's so far out of the way and uses so many missiles, which you won't have that many in any%

Plus, after that, there are still a bunch of other ridiculous tricks to perform. Like freezing the Rezbit and jumping up to the BS. And then the puzzle to get the SA itself. Meaning you have to RJ again or scan dash and touch the lower sections.

You don't have to freeze the rezbit to jump up to the spider tracks for the bomb slot in watch station; it's just faster. Instead, you can do a ghetto jump: http://www.metroid2002.com/echoes/without_spider_watch_station.php

You also don't have to dash jump to get SA itself. It's just speedtricks that save time; I've never ever gotten the dash jump to skip using the portal before (but dash jumping from the platforms to the bridge and activating terminal fall is much, much easier).

i will work on it right now :P
TheOthin / kirby:
You ARE aware that my idea to use Wavebuster on Parasite Queen is a joke, right? There's no way you can have that unless you cheat with an Action Replay code... Plus, if you put that code in, you'll always have the Wavebuster.
In an earlier post, I wrote that I might get the moonjump code from the AR, to bypass falling in IBBF. But I'm not sure I was serious about that either, even if you can save and start without the AR and play like normally.

kirby:
Alright. It's been so long since I watched the videos to get early SA. Several years. I don't even remember the normal route. Razz It's been very long since I played Echoes and all the videos I've watched since have been speedruns.
Either way, like I wrote earlier. I'm taking a bit of a break right now. I've been feeling very tired and apathetic lately.
First I wanted to try IBBF, and then move on to MP2.
My interest was totally awoken for playing MP2 after having watched the 6% demo and other videos showing totally new tricks (compared to what I knew earlier, from years ago).
My goal is then to first practice a lot, and then when I can do early power bomb expansion and ILS (preferably, but more for fun) and I'll even try to get earl screw attack... - after that, I want to finally beat the game on hard mode.
I never thought I would be able to do that. My main obstacles were boost guardian and emperor ing.
I am quite confident I won't have much problem with the other bosses. For example, I always thought Quadraxis was a both great and fair fight. One of the most grand boss fights ever in any Metroid game. I totally love that fight.

Oh, and yeah, another irritating boss for me is the spider guardian. I get so worked up in that fight and mess things up.

On a side note, in the 6% video, it was a riot to see the Chykka fight, with the light suit! :)
I would not mind getting the LS before that fight, but I know it's a long long way to go, and probably not many will be able to replicate the 6% video...?
Seems very distant, since there are so many techniques and the run isn't speed optimized (yet).

Cool. In the words of Monty Python: "Get on with it!" aiwebs_017
fyi, working on it... it's taking a lot of time though
No worries!
I'm in no hurry.
Like I said, I am kind of taking a break right now from playing as I have some other distractions.
Plus I don't know what games I wanna play. LoL.

For a while, I've been thinking I really should try running through Resident Evil zero on hard. But just thinking about it makes me crap in my pants! Plus after that I wanna get all the stuff in leech hunter. Sooo hard.

Anyway, I may be starting playing MP (1/2) soon again.

Congrats on your new PB!

So ummm how come every time I "kill" dark samus 1 with a power bomb the screen just goes white and I'm stuck forever?

I wasn't aware it was possible when doing the "normal" PB strat...

For my strat, her position when you PB her seems really important for avoiding that (or a crash); not sure what to do about avoiding it with the missile strat though.
from watching miles do the fight a bazillion times, it seems like her movement pattern is always the same, so I'm assuming that you can roll around to the left, roll into her and PB as she does the barrier attack.
MP2 also a bit MP1 speedrunning
guess why i stopped doing sandigger...
pls someone figure out how to avoid that stupid crash :(

Can I get help for the Trilogy version of Echoes?

I'm trying to get past the Abandoned base without the Dark Suit. I heard you can do it with a double bomb jump, but I don't know how. Also, all the GCN tricks either don't work now, or I'm doing them wrong. :P
You can still do the ghetto jump off the right wall to skip abandoned base without dark suit. It's a bit harder, but I've done it before.
Game Lover
I'm not good with the Ghetto Jump. How do you practice it in the Trilogy version and where's a good place to practice?

THANK YOU for responding BTW. I've been trying for hours to skip the Abandoned Base. x.x;

practicing ghetto jumps is kinda hard... ghetto jumps are generally kinda different depending on what you're trying to ghetto off of.

The main idea is to jump while moving against a slope. Keep in mind, though, at least in MP2, you need to jump as you move against the slope (having a runnign start can help). I recommend trying it out in abandoned worksite with light suit first until you get a hang of it. It's an insanely easy ghetto jump in the GC version, but trilogy is harder cuz lol trilogy. Definitely practicei t with light suit, since doing it to skip dark suit means you basically have one or two tries at it (depending on how many e-tanks you have) before dying.
Game Lover
I have four energy tanks.

Okay, moving against a slope. On the videos site for Metroid2002 it says Ghetto Jumps need an "L" jump. Does that exist in the Trilogy as "Z" Jumps? If so, how do you do it?

Also, I don't have a save on the Trilogy that has the Light Suit. Since the Ghetto Jump is harder/different than in the GC version, I'll need to practice with the Trilogy.

Thank you!

Errr it's not the same, but you generally want to hold Z almost all the time you're doing precise jumps, since it means you have full control over how you move in the air (and you won't randomly turn thanks to pointer >_>). So yeah, hold Z while doing the ghetto jump.

And uh, get a save up until light suit (or even dark suit) and practice it. Doing that will save you so much frustration, since you won't have to reset with every 2-3 practice attempts
Game Lover
Okay, thank you.

Are you sure there isn't a place I can practice with my normal save? Like in the Landing Site?
