you cannot SA when you face far up or far down, so just look up or down and hold L and you cannot SA (mostly facing down is used, so you can actually see what you're standing on)
you didnt bend the dash enough so maybe you we're too slow at holding forward on your controlstick after dashing. also i think you pressed B too late. you actually had the difficult part of it, not sure if that video shows a floaty dash, but your timing with the R button was probably in the right window to make it onto the robot. (both floaty and non floaty dash methods are ver y precise; i think the non floaty dash method is like a 4 frame window which you want to time ith the r button so yeah...)
also; if you both have that perfect timing with the R-button and the floaty dash you will slide over the robot and just fall off like i had it happen here:
When you said pressed B too late, do you mean for the initial dash, or for the second jump? Also, when you bend the dash, how far forward do you put the stick? I've been aiming to get it in the top left corner where there's a groove thingie,
And yeah, I'm not sure if that video shows a floaty dash either. I can't remember if I got it at the time, and every time I rewatch the video I'm not sure. Aiming down before entering the room has really helped me get into a good position for the floaty dash, though.
Overall, for two days of work, I'm pretty happy with where I am on the trick.
EDIT: So, uh, I tried holding the control stick all the way forward instead of up-left and I got it. Yay?
It's been a lot easier since I started doing that. I haven't made it a second time yet, but I'm consistently getting really close. I just need to get slightly better at the bend.
Different question, though. Why is it that I sometimes jump rather than just doing a dash? I've been messing with inputs, but can't work out what's causing it.
Yeah, I think I must be pressing B too early sometimes. I just recorded my hands and replayed it in slow motion, and that's what it looked like to me.
EDIT: Yeah, today I got GA every time I got a dash. But the vast majority of the time I either failed floaty jump and fell or did a regular jump. Once I sort that out, doing GA in a run should be easy.
EDIT2: Dammit, I just got that bend/floaty dash and slid off the robot. I'd be mad if I couldn't stop laughing. I think I might go to sleep on that note. Or I might try to PB. Not sure which.
EDIT3: Okay, someone tell me why my game just crashed when I beat EI3. How does that happen?
I'm pretty sure I've worked out all my issues with GA now, so I should be able to get a run going with it tomorrow. Then I'll use super mega ultra safe strats for the rest of the run, so I can get a PB.
What are you gonna do about quadraxis then? There are only 3 convenient e-tanks (1 semi-convenient that nobody skips in SS at the moment) before quad skip, with the grapple-less route.
There are five I can get. The one before Early PBs, the one near the start of Agon, the one from when I don't do Sand Digger, and the two in Sanctuary. Five is enough to get me through the Quad fight unless I get really horribly screwed over (like what happened to Bertin today). I also messed with Quad Skip last night, and it looks like GA made me a lot more consistent at Aether Jumping. After a bit of practice, I should be able to pull off a 5 ETank Quad Skip consistently. Last night came much closer than I would have liked it to. Because I didn't know the right unmorph height, I had to ceiling warp in, and I screwed up room transitions right before trying to ceiling warp, so I was at exactly 1 health when I entered the safe zone. That's way way way closer than I'd like it to be. Learning the rest of the GA route takes priority over learning that, though.
Do you guys have any advice for getting the 3BJs on the way back from Torvus to the temple? I'm having a lot of trouble with each of them, especially with getting the camera angle for the one where I need to jump onto the tree branch.
I'm still confused. What is the fastest version...? lol
Miles's any% ss time is 1:27. How can trilogy be two hours faster? x_x What makes it faster? I'd assume the first released version would be the fastest unless it has crashes that are fixed in later versions.
And why would the JP version be slower, MG2? Do you know?
I'm being silly. There's no way trilogy version can be two hours faster, because Miles' PB is faster (Also his PB is 1:03). Two hours faster would make a negative time, which is why I said two hours. I say stuff like that a lot.
The PAL version has a few minor changes from NTSC, but is still fine. The changes don't affect speedrunning. I believe MrSpeedrun and MaskedKirby both use PAL. I've used PAL in the past, but using homebrew every time I wanted to play Echoes was a pain, so I use NTSC now. So either of them is fine.
Oh, and on the subject of help, help me with this transition: It's the stupidest transition ever. Like, I hate ILS transition, but this is way worse.
For that transition, you basically follow what miles does. These steps make more sense if you watch someone do the set-up while reading this.
Find the invisible ledge by the door and "lock yourself" by it. Turn around holding R, and aim at the left-center corner of that hexagonal structure. Hold L so the crosshair is at it. Wiggle very slowly around (holding L the entire time); you'll see samus slowly lower in altitude. Keep wiggling until the crosshair is at the bottom-left corner of that hexagonal structure. Morph and hold up-right. Unmorph after a bit. You'll know you got it if the background turns black.
Alright, just got it. Man, learning GA must have made me not-terrible at this game, because I'm actually getting most of these fairly easily. And everything's going better than usual. Like movement, and whatnot, and stuff, it's just all going well. GA is cool.
you spent time playing the game. its not just GA, playing the game makes you better, doesnt even matter what exactly you do, just play... its weird but it works.
practicing specific parts is more efficient though.
Well, I think GA helped me with timing for things, since I go for floaty dash on it. I've been way more consistent with aether jumps since then. Like, I could barely do 6 ETank Quad Skip before that, and now I can 5 ETank fairly easily (I actually think I could have a good chance at doing 4 tank once I get better at the game, but I have to get better in order to get better).
I'm going to grind out Spider Skip again and that stupid transition. Once I do that, I should be able to do an easier GA route without Sand Digger or Quad Skip. I'm fairly confident I can get a low 40s or a high 30s on once I do that. Then all I need to do is play this game more and get better. I'm so glad I don't have classes on Tuesdays, and only have one 50 minute class on Thursdays.
And we should totally start doing weekly races again. That would be cool, right? Yeah? Totally? Definitely? Amazingly? Fantastically?
I'm a total noob at Prime 2. I feel like R Dashes are so different in Prime 2 than in Prime 1, and I can never do them correctly. Is there a different way that I'm suppose to do an R dash in Prime 2? I'm pretty sure I have to hold both L and R for it to work, right?
