the abandoned base is one of the easiest ghettos to do.
the trick is to look down and jump when you're "hugging" the area that joins the wall and the floor. that area has a surface that will give you the effect easily. the spot with the cracked rocks seems to be the best.

Is it safe to say that I'm pretty well screwed if Boosty goes into ball form even once?  Or is it still possible to kill it (and not die afterward)?

maybe if you get super lucky with refills you can survive the ball phase but with no dark suit and in hard i'd say the chances are too low.

Then I'd say I'm in trouble, because I can rarely get half its health down before the puddle gets away from me and re-forms.  I would ask for tips, but I was under the impression that where the puddle goes is mostly random.

...isn't it?

It irks me that I probably won't have any problems with the entire run apart from this, and naturally, it's the part I'm stuck hard on.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
It's not random.  You have to keep close to the puddle.

i tried the literal amorbis skip on the wii version and it works. i had to use SA to get to the door leading to the energy but everything else worked like in the vid (big lulz)

I knew I had to keep close to it, but I thought for sure it was random where the puddle actually goes.  If it had a pattern of movement, I could stay close to it a lot easier.  It's just so hard to keep up with it when it suddenly changes directions, you know?  :|

PS: I think at this point that I would actually save a lot of time and effort by backtracking for early Power Bombs, rather than keep attempting the Boost Guardian and failing as is.  But is it even possible to get Power Bombs before Boosty in the Trilogy version?  If so, does anyone know how/can they provide a link to a description of the break?

taken from my run from the "any% route on the trilogy" topic.

Heh.  I watched that earlier without knowing it was you.  I used it for reference in getting through Abandoned Base.

Is this one or the one in Great Bridge in Torvus easier to glitch to?

i think the Portal Chamber SW would work since it is the room next to Great Bridge and you would need less wallcrawling.
iirc, the portal side of the room can be reached before Boost ball with a longer trip through the dark world.
from initial experience, i'd say this one is easier since entering the portal chamber SW is far easier than tha transport one.

Any idea how to get there?  I've been looking for a while and can't seem to find a path that doesn't go through Boosty.  Admittedly, I don't know of any glitches other than the one I'm trying to get to, so I'm probably overlooking something.  Or I'm overlooking something that isn't a glitch.

well, after you get super missiles, you can return to forgotten bridge, go to the dark world, follow the path you use to reach chykka but at the room with the last key, go htrough the dark beam door instead and you should be in the dark version of Portal chamber. at the end of the room you jump up on some rock and can reach the area with the portal.

that would have worked if it wasn't for the fact you can't reach the portal in forgotten bridge after the puzzle and before boost guardian. i realized that as soon as i finished typing the route so your only choice is the PB i had posted earlier.
No, you can, as that's how I got an early PB in Trilogy. IIRC you can jump up to the platform by the gate you can open from the bridge.

lol. i guess i should try stuff before posting. i assumed it would be a dead trick because of no Roll jump. at least the alternative he was looking for works.
Crap, it looks like I was wrong. :\ I think getting rid of the gate lowers the platform... I got the Power Bomb after Boost and forgot, and thought it'd be possible beforehand. Sorry for that.

Time for some backtrackin' then.  It was a good thought, though.

Is a Ghetto Jump necessary to get into this SW?  Where on the wall, exactly, should I aim for?

the platform lowers when you open the door. it isn't very obvious but that's how it is. i considered that when i concluded it wasn't possible to reach the portal without roll jump or scan dash.

for the transport SW, you need to ghetto off that branch next to the scan point. it needs to be a good ghetto to reach the invisible ledge. you also need to be pushing the stick towards it all the way. you have to aim towards the bright spot. i'd say that entrance is way harder than the old TAS entrance (i could enter the TAS SW in 1 or 2 attempts often) and it's mostly because of the weaker ghetto jumps here (you can't even use a sasuke hop in this area)

also, be prepared for the messed up SW mechanics found in mp3 since i realized that they added that here when i was reading an mp3 SW topic and noticed they had the same trouble navigating SWs as i did with this one.

I've come very close a couple of times, but my Ghettos didn't quite get me high enough, apparently.  Or I was imagining it.  It's hard to tell because I suck so much at Ghetto Jumps.  Even so, I suck even more at staying close to Boosty in puddle form, so this is probably going to be slightly easier in the long run.

I've gotten the expansion, but I'm not sure how to get back into the game world.  What's the easiest/best way to un-SW myself?

Which room is the map on? If it's on TAS, you can jump up to the top part of the room, then unmorph into it. If not, and TAS is still there, float/Aether Jump until you're high above TAS (you want to reach the Skywalk, where you can't fall; if you move towards TAS and start falling, you need to wait longer), then go to the center of the room, morph, and you'll fall straight back in-bounds. Then touch the door between the two rooms and walk away from it to get the game back to normal.

If TAS is gone, then you need to get back on top of the door between the rooms and get it to reappear.

Does Aether Jump work in Trilogy?  If it does, I've been doing it wrong all this time.

When I try to float, it will stop Samus' ascent after a while and just keep rising and falling in the same space.

Am I doing something wrong, or are the physics of the Trilogy edition to blame yet again?

Yes. You're probably better off floating if this is your first time in a SW, though. (be prepared to wait a while)

You're inside the room's boundaries. You need to get far away enough from the room(s).

If Samus has stopped moving upwards, does that mean I'm ready to start walking?
If you're floating, you should float up forever... How high above the room are you? If you're pretty high up, walk towards the room, then pull back if you start falling.

I think I've got it.  Thanks for the help, guys (and for putting up with my incessant and foolish questions).  With luck, I shouldn't need this thread for the rest of my playthrough.

in the areas where samus stops floating and seems to move up and down slightly is where you can jump. an Aether jump is when you jump between that area and the area where you rise infinitely (aether) and then move to the aether to keep the height and be much higher. rinse and repeat for continuous aether jumps but watch out for falling down during the jump.
