I've checked Sparky's 100% run on SDA. I've always been wondering why he didn't skip returning the energy in Agon. Now I know. The funny thing is that you can still restore Agon's energy after restoring it in Sanctuary Fortress and getting the light suit. I really thought I was screwed. When you return the energy, the cutscene shows Samus pluging her arm in the void because the energy controller is opened after getting the light suit. I was going for 101% but I finally get 99%. I've missed 2 missile expansions and I have no clue which ones. I find it harder to remember how to get 100% than in MP1. I think I'll give up for this time.
I've been searching and am currently on page 21 (of 45) in this Help Topic and now all I read is looking the same (if you know what I mean)...
Question: the first time on entering Central Mining Station, is it possible to ghetto up the slanted panels in an effort to get the early beam ammo expansion? All Samus has at this point are the jump boots and morph bombs. I wouldn't ask if I wasn't trying - sometimes I think I'm close but then, I have to face the fact that I probably suck at this game (my best time is 4:08 (Normal)). I need to force myself to practice and keep practicing until I can do the UW dash and land on the door platforms from the upper grating and to roll jump to reach WSA.
tjp has from a specific spot, but I completely failed at understanding his explanation of it. <_< If you just want to get it early, you could do a BSJ up to the turrets and get it normally from there. You need to unload the room and come back for the turrets to work, though.
Thanks Miles and TJP for posting the video... funny how after I sometimes see something I think "why didin't I try that"... I was trying to get up the steel panel. As usual you make it look easy. I'll have to try and see just how difficult this is. Nice going.
Ok -- I actually made the GJ successfully. However, this jump is similar to the 1st jump of the game in GFMC. I can make that jump with almost 0 consistency. This Mining Station jump is (as of now) no different so I consider it difficult. I made it at least 10 times but failed to make the jump to the rock ledge. I tried jumping forward, backward, with a twist and off the mast or extension off the plate. I got close jumping off the mast but I still suck at the game (even though I honestly think it is a great game). I will be starting a new game shortly and plan on complete success.
I did it... only it took forever to make it up to the plate deck so instead of missing the jump to the ledge, I jumped to the other deck onto the rock ledge (since the power transformer is not in place yet)... and so when I did get the color beams, the quantity = 100. I don't know if there is a way to fool the game so it adds an extra 50 (like getting the missile twice in GFMC at the beginning of the game). Since this is my first time getting the early pick-up, I don't know if early beam ammo exp does anything except boost my confidence in making a tough jump trick.
thanks but I feel like the trick is incomplete (the way I did it)...
#1) the way you jump backwards - I didin't know acheiving that amount of distance was possible #2) the way Miles jumps off the mast -- this seems equivalent to jumping off the Chozo statue headpiece in MP (the room may be the Hall of Elders) where the goal is to jump to the ledge where the 3 colored bomb slots sit. I've been able to make that jump only twice.
I'll keep working at it -- the frustrating part is making the jump up to the plate deck.
Take a look at where I shoot in my video. Then just walk up to around that spot and, holding the L button, just walk up certain sections of that corner to see which brings you the highest. That's how I find the best ghetto spots.
Then it's a matter of just hugging the slanted wall.
Normally you would kill all the pirates upon entering the room for the first time, then head to the Command Center and all that. When you get back, you would take about 5 seconds to destroy the crate blocking the entrance, then roll jump/scan dash to the top of the slanted platform then do the ghetto jump to the tunnel by the expansion.
Using the ghetto, you have to take time out of killing the pirates to do the ghetto jump onto the top of the slanted wall, do a hard ghetto to the tunnel, then continue the pirate fight. On the way back you would roll in the morph ball (or scan dash, whichever is faster) to the other side.
Because you have to take time from killing the pirates (unlike the first method), I think you might actually LOSE time.
I have a question. Well, a couple of questions, in fact. I'm probably going to begin a No-Dark-Suit run of Echoes in Hypermode difficulty. Hypermode. Meaning that I'm using the Trilogy version (I don't have the GCN version, which is why I got Trilogy). My questions pertain to confirming that certain tricks still work in Trilogy.
First, what's the best [easiest] method to get by the Ingclaw Mist in the Abandoned Base in this version?
Second, does the Boost Guardian trick (the first one, that uses the Light Beam) still work in Trilogy? I'm reasonably confident that I can do a No-Dark-Suit run except for this one boss (of course, I'm sure most folks here are already familiar with how fiendishly difficult Boosty can be). If it doesn't work anymore, what's the easiest way to beat this thing?
If it helps, I'm not going for a speed run of any kind... I really just want the extra challenge of going through almost the entire game without any protection from Dark Aether's atmosphere. But I also want to do a 100% run, so I will be going back to Agon's Temple after obtaining the Light Suit. I'm not planning on skipping any items except for the Dark Suit. I don't know whether that will make it easier or harder.
to get through abandoned base, you use the exact same trick as in the original version. the ghetto jump still reaches the ledge with the portal. watching the run i did of the trilogy can give you a clear idea of most of the stuff still possible. it is in the any% route topic. btw, you can't get all items if you skip the dark suit. the energy tank in the first big room of Agon only has the sonic locks after you return Agon's energy.
i see. that works. the light beam trick against the boost guardian still works. it was used to beat him wth no energy tanks and no dark suit and is as random as ever so good luck with that.

No, you can. I don't know if it's possible to avoid the trigger on Trilogy though. (you can SA from a light crystal instead of doing a 3BSJ)
From my experience, each Ghetto Jump is unique (mostly), so your best bet would be to get the Dark Suit, practice it, then do it for real once you have it down.
It figures that I'd have to use such an inconsistent glitch... so are there any general tips/how-tos for Ghetto Jumping? I just have no idea how to time the button presses/releases. It doesn't help that simple text really isn't the best way to explain such a thing in sufficient detail.
