BTW, HBJ are the ones used by sparky at Geo?

yeah.  for 1>2, it is just a normal hbj.  for up to one and at the beginning of the upper portion, it is a hbj/dbj (which is using the last two bombs right after each other for a dbj effect).

Okay ... now describe an HBJ, please.

waste the first bomb, lay the first and second about a half second apart, then lay the next three bombs just after the first, second, and third bomb explode, so after the first two, just after a bomb explodes, lay another so it is overlapping/just above the one that exploded

Sorry, didn't rewrite anything. Just copy/paste.

My question is pretty basic. No matter how well I do scan dashes, I just cannot perform the one necessary for Space Jump first. I was only able to do it once, then promptly fell into the first hole. I was wondering if there are any special procedures I'm missing, since I can do the Main Quarry dash pretty consistently, and it's about the same (at least how I see it).

BTW, I do own the original NTSC U/C copy.
If you can do the Main quarry dash without SJ, then you can do SJF.

With SJ, you can freeze-dash main quarry, so it's not exactly the same, Main quarry dash is easier.
he didn't say he didn't have sj for the m.quarry dash afaik. as for sj first, have you tried reading this entire topic and the description on the sj first page several times to see that there's nothing you missed? imo pretty much everything that can be said has been said regarding it.

I have indeed read everything and watched the vids and practiced for hours, and that's the only scan dash I can't do.
maybe try looking down at your hands to make sure you are really doing what you think you are doing. with this one, imo, less is more. it should be just a twitch and you're on the ledge. i really need to record my hands as i do it sometime.

edit: afaik there is no reason to look at the screen while you're doing it, either. it's that simple.

*shakes head* Way to make a guy feel less sucky.

At any rate, I will try that. Thanks for the advice.
I run this here hotel of an evening
i remember someone here saying that in the frigate, the elevater before PQ, they got one of the (i don't know what they're called, but i'm going to call them:) doors to blow up. after you fight the queen and are escaping, one of them blows up, and you run across the top of the elevater, then the other blows up. it was the first one of those they said they got to blow up but it didn't help. my question, after all that, is was there anything special you did to blow it up? i can't get too close to either one as a fall under the elevater

Don't fret about it.  The more you get frustrated, the harder it will become to do.  Just practice the scan dash for a few days (yes, a few days, that's what it took me to get it consistently) and stay cool, and you will eventually get it.

brag: I can do SJF on the first or second time now /brag

Ok, here are some areas of help I need on a no-boost game:
1. Life Grove+Life Grove Tunnel
2. Vent Shaft
3. Geo Core

Areas of help needed in no-spider game:
1. Sun Tower (I can get onto the Oculus, just can't time the infinite bomb jump correctly)
2. Great Tree Hall
3. PPC
4. MQA
5. MQB

I have watched all the videos for all the previously listed items of concern.

Suggestions?
OMG everybody, I have great news on what I did.

... okay? In the future, try to put some content into your posts.
I was trying to make a joke, arky.
So on with the joke... I just saved a load of money by switching my car insurance to geico ( joke ).
But here is the real news, I just learned the metroid quarantine A dash!!
YAY!!! I didn't know you could dash off an already scanned up object. I'm so stupid, bending the dash in simple. I just thought that then my only choice was the metroid dash but I was wrong. Yay for human flaws!
and here was me thinking you'd learned to shave or something.
Fixed about 3/4 of things listed on my post  Arrow  Arrow  Arrow  Arrow  Arrow  posts ago.

Still stuck on Main Quarry Scan Dash, have done it, never consistently.
Oh, the main quarry dash had me frustrated for about 5-10 minutes. If you do that one speed trick for the main quarry, you can scan off a pirate. Or if you just want to do it the normal way, I suggest getting as far back as possible. That's how I got it the first time ever.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Oddly enough, the Main Quarry Dash is the only one I can do consistently, I just stand right on the corner nearest the ice door, works every time from there.
Could always rodeo jump the gap in Main Quarry.
I'm assuming that's when you l-lock spring jump and then you start to turn left on the second jump. You could do that but the dash is alot easier.
And I've never seen you before phazon siphon.
Thanks for the help.  A quick question: Why does kip go into the Phazon Mines once, just to get the main power bomb expansion?
a rodeo jump is one of the other names for an r-jump. supposedly one of the things the r stands for, i guess. it's just where you look up with r at the same time as you do the space jump (after llocking the first jump).
Hey Nate, how exactly does a rodeo jump achieve more airtime than a L-Lock Spring Space Jump?
always move fast
razorflame, cause you need the main powerbombs for the phazon elite, as well as a few places before that (such as life grove).  an alternate path would be getting the phen tank early, then getting the main one, head back to phazon elite, and then continue to op, but without spider ball it isnt even practical for a speed run, and probably wouldnt be faster even with spider ball.
in the same way that l jumping can "push" you farther, r jumping "pulls" you upwards in the middle of the jump. it's as if you grabbed yourself by the scruff of your neck and pulled yourself up off the ground.
in the name of justice!
except it works?  i'm going to check this out...

i've been looking at the phazon core ghetto, but it doesn't seem to be working too well...is there any advice (well, it might not help since it took me forever to get the artifact of sun or whichever that is underwater)
