I'm not sure I'll be able to join. My apartment doesn't have internet yet, and I can't really enter without that. I'm at a different building on campus in order to post this. But yeah, I should run through the rest of the game.

Hey there
I recently bought an Action Replay (=AR), activated all the UPGRADE-Codes (having Bombs, Plasma Beam, y'know) and then asked myself:
What is the fastest route to collect the 12 Artifacts if you already have ALL upgrades you can find (except for Wavebuster LOL there's just no code for that) ?
(WITHOUT Moonjump and stuff, just w/ every Upgrade, so IBBF is not needed, and the Sheegoth Fight is not needed, either, and so on, even X-RV is not needed to damage Omega Pirate, as it's not necessary to beat OP at all :-p)
IMPORTANT: Weirdly, it's still necessary in order to get the Artifact of WARRIOR, to get the ACTUAL MAIN PBs which is kinda weird?!? Does that affect the route?
PS: Starting from the Ship in Landing Site. Thanks
Travelling salesman problem with 12 nodes. If you knew the amount of time it took to go from every artifact to every other artifact you could solve the problem deterministically.

I imagine it would look something like this:

Take the elevator to Chozo Ruins

1. Lifegiver (Chozo Ruins, Tower of Light)
2. Wild (Chozo Ruins, Sunchamber)

Take the elevator to Magmoor Caverns

3. Nature (Magmoor Caverns, Twin Fires)
4. Strength (Magmoor Caverns, Monitor Station)

Take the elevator to Phendrana Drifts

5. Sun (Phendrana Drifts, Chozo Ice Temple)
6. Elder (Phendrana Drifts, Control Tower)
7. Spirit (Phendrana Drifts, Phendrana's Edge)

Take the elevator to far Magmoor Caverns
Take the elevator to lower Phazon Mines

8. Newborn (Phazon Mines, Phazon Mining Tunnel)
9. Warrior (Phazon Mines, Elite Research)

Take the elevator to far Tallon Overworld

10. Chozo (Tallon Overworld, Life Grove)

Take the elevator to far Chozo Ruins

11. World (Chozo Ruins, Hall of the Elders)

Take the elevator to Tallon Overworld (crash site)

12. Truth (Tallon Overworld, Artifact Temple)

Thanks dude (or dudette)! :-)
So I used this route yesterday (well, actually it's now the day before yesterday but whatever), and got in 0:41 to Impact Crater and finished w/ 0:48 but it was almost Single-Segmented and segmented, I could easily go for like 0:43/ 0:44 but it has been fun and I don't think I'll ever go for a more serious playthrough/ run w/ cheats, although I find it funny to race in another catergory than any, 100 or low%; artifact challenge only, well yeah, plus you've to get the MAIN Power Bombs in order to get WARRIOR and even w/ "get Varia Suit"-Cheat you'll still take damage in heated Magmoor-rooms LOL, but w/ Gravity Suit, you can travel in water as freely as always w/ GS, but the same doesn't count for VS which just doesn't protect you against heat?!
So I selected "infinite health" as well, but then, another strange thing happenend: When going for NEWBORN, after about 2/3 of the tunnel, you WOULD take damage, even w/ the Phazon Suit-cheat selected before, but, and this makes it even more strange: You only WOULD take damage THEN, if you ALSO have had "infinite health" selected; w/out infinite health, but WITH Phazon Suit, you don't take damage, as supposed (as you have Phazon Suit?!)
Before I forget; the item completition rate was something like thirteenthousandtwohundretwelve or 13212 or some crazy number o_0
Oh dear, cheats mess up a lot...
rocks, locks, and invisible blocks
Stop typing so much, it's not necessary.
Hey guys - this is my first post here. I started speedrunning Metroid Prime several days ago and used miles's 1:16 (I'm working on a 100% SS) as a base to go by. Well, it turns out that that made matters bad, because I was getting frustrated attempting to do all the scan dashes, ghetto jumps, etc. that Miles does throughout his run. I'm used to playing resident evil games - I hold several records in the resident evil series. I decided to do something way more challenging, so I started running this and got what I expected. I love this game and want to get good, but knowledge is a must for this type of game, in which I have very little.

Should I actually use Miles's 1:16 as base at this point? If not, then what run? I cannot get past all of Out of boundaries thing to get the ice beam currently.

It's nice to be here as well. I look forward to your responses, folks. You guys can call me Jake (real name is Jake Tabor) btw.
Also very nice times Paraxade and Miles. You guys are very talented :).
not evil,just hungry
if you are just starting to learn the game, I would recommend not doing ibbf.  Get ice beam in bounds after wave beam.  oob stuff in Metroid Prime is frustrating if you don't know what to look for.  Doing it at speedrun pace is even harder.  Skipping it would let you get a better handle on the ghettos, dashes, and boss strats.

Thank you a lot, Jerry. It is indeed extremely annoying, so I'll do what you suggested.

Also, I can't seem to dash jump correctly in A LOT of spots. Examples include the 1st missle expansion in Chozo Ruins. I get close, but not close enough to that ledge with the expansion after dash jumping from the tree. Has anyone ever gotten that that way?? Example number two is a variety of things, but one in particular that gets me frustrated is the frigate dash jump in the beginning section. I cannot pull that off correctly ever.
I run this here hotel of an evening
i use zoids 1:29 as a base for my ss 100% runs. no secret worlds to deal with :-)
Good idea, Odylg ^.^

So, Im getting better at Flaghra and am getting way more consistent at the double bomb jump ruinic gate. For the gate, I usually get it in around 2-5 tries, and I got it my first try once. I havent beaten flaghra yet, but at least im getting better after all the KO's from claw after claw, poison after poison :P. i hope I nail it pretty soon. I'm still not sure how to move correctly in that boss room. Can someone help me with that? Also, would moving correctly (getting the dashes perfect) lessen the chance of Flaghra KOing you?
I run this here hotel of an evening
getting the dashes right will help immensely. oddly enough i find that grabbing the e-tank in main plaza seems to make him hit me less, though it probably has no real effect
Does anyone have advice on how to get through the furnace room in IBBF without falling and AJing back up? I'm fairly consistent at the rest of IBBF, but I screw up that room a lot.
Hey Jake and Robo:
Tabor, it's faster to scan all the runic symbols than to bomb jump over the gate. Scan dashing to Flaahgra's bomb slots and hitting them makes Flaahgra go by faster than he can kill you :) Just dash super fast and remember to push the dash rather than turning & bending it (the latter slows you down).

To practise scan dashing, go to Phendrana Shorelines and dash around the entire room, or Thardus' battle room & extend your dashes as long as you can. I find hitting B once gives you a very low, faster dash, while tapping B multiple times gives you a higher, slightly slower dash.

Robo, you'll want to hop ontop of the massive structure at the beginning, climb along the side of the morphball area then hop to the morphball pipe with the Furnace etank, up onto a little bit of debris in front of you (it looks like lava) then ontop of the square enclosure where Crossway Access is. From there, simply jump past the room's gravity box, and load HOTE Access.
Is there a specific way to get from the square enclosure to outside the box? I tried doing that jump a few times and always fell.
You just have to hop from the bit of clipping where you can stand on the square box (on the far side from where you originally jumped on) and just L-Lock as far as you can directly forward, past the Ice Beam door.
Another question: Is the timing for an aether jump different in this game than in Prime 2? I'm a lot more consistent at getting an AJ here, so I was curious about that.
The timing for an Aether Jump is the following:

Smash B.
Aether jumping in prime 1 is different than in prime 2. The timing is exactly the same in both games but the difference is in the airborne mechanics of both games. I'm not sure the exact specifics but aether jumping is by far easier in prime 2 and 3 compared to 1. Unless you're using the corner of the aether in a room in prime 1 you have to jump and exactly the right timing otherwise you'll fall and in prime 1 you can't change directions in midair at that point. In the other primes if you fall and miss the timing you can just move over and instantly be inside the "floaty zone" so to speak. If you have to aether jump super high distances its far easier to find the corner so that if you miss the jump you'll hit the other side of the corner instead of falling all the way back down. Which is why it's much quicker and more efficient to find standable ledges on the map itself to reach your destination
Hi, I'm going for an any% PAL run, aiming sub 1:30 "consistently" in SS, and I need tips for some points.

I won't do IBBF and need to choose a route : early sun with IS, thardus jump, or neither (walk through Magmoor I guess). What time loss shall I expect for those ? Is it possible to do the Thardus jump consistently (I didn't practice it already but I can do GTH bars in 1-5 tries, hard dashes, SJF and most of the tricks easily) ? How much time do I lose if I fail and have to kill Thardus ?

Sheegoth : how to be sure to stun him with morph bombs ? If it's during his ice attack ?

OP : the power bomb that should kill him miss or destroy his armor at best, how do I make damage to his health with it ? Am I too slow with charged plasma shots in his 2 first spawns ? Bad PB timing ?

The first "big pirate" you meet : he often attacks me because I don't know how to properly avoid his line of sight, I'm going left ASAP but it's not enough. Any visual cue ?

I guess I could figure it out all by myself, but any info would save me some time and is appreciated since I'm practicing the end of the game now.
Don't go for thardus jump on PAL, honestly, except if you do segmented. You can avoid Thardus and go through magmoor, but I'm not sure you would save more time than if you do IS (of course if you get ice spreader).
If you fail your thardus jump and if you have no experience or power bombs then you gonna lose 3 to 4 minutes I guess.

Sheegoth : Just make sure you lay 3 bombs in his foot while he's doing an ice attack. I don't really know much about this weird fight but that's how I do it and it never fails.

OP : I guess bad PB timing. Watch Miles or T3.

the first elite pirate : I guess you don't know the right trajectory. Try more things. I don't really see what you mean by going left ASAP tho, if you pass between that kind of pilar and the computer fast enough he shouldn't be able to " see " you. Again watching runs is a nice source of informations ;)

All I need to do to make that jump is hold L and go forward, right? I still haven't managed to do it without falling. I really want a more consistent method for this room than "fall down and AJ up the other side", especially since I don't AJ in a corner. Also, is there a way to load HOTE access from that square box? I'm really inconsistent at hitting the loading trigger near the door.

I'll be able to record/stream again tomorrow when my laptop gets back from repair, so maybe you'll be able to point out what I'm doing wrong then.

Well, now that I think about it, falling down and floating up the other side is consistent. Maybe I should just go with that and make myself a cup of tea during every run.

I can also consistently get to the top of the room, so that could be a good alternative to the jump.
Thanks for your help guys. I'm having trouble performing an L-lock spring space jump though. Lol
All you need to do is hold L before you jump, and release it right after you jump.
There is no such think as L-lock spring space jump. It was just made-up, and gave the illusion of giving more distance since because you're looking down, you know you're as far as possible to the edge. What baby sheegoth described was a simple L jump.

sooo, all those times i failed the "trick" is because of bad positioning and not because i was messing up the "trick"?
