I'm lining up with the larger rail that is at the edge of the flat part, aim at the intersection between the small rail and the angled section of the tree.  Run forward and as I contact the slope, jump (with L held) forward and hold forward the whole time.  Should I be jumping diagonally away from the tree from the slope?  I did it once by getting closer to the tree and jumping more towards the lower section of the root and around the end.
It's hard to describe how I do it because it's all locked away in my muscle memory now. I line up with the thinner middle rail. This might help.

You need to jump exactly at the point where you contact the tree I think. Timing the first jump correctly for the right amount of ghetto effect is most of the difficulty in this jump (indeed in most ghetto jumps). Also I'm pretty sure I jump diagonally away to the left rather than straight forward, so perhaps you could try that, although I'm not sure how much sideways movement I put on the stick - I don't think it's as much as the 45 degree position would give you. Also, remember to wait to use your second jump until you've made it over the branch .. use it too early and you won't make it.

HTH.
I need some help with dashing. (Actually I believe I'm beyond help in this case.) The SW aether is just beyond the reach of an L-lock jump in Torvus Transport Access. http://www.geriatricgamer.com/mp2/TorvTA_near.mp4 I make it to the aether, but have already sealed my doom (cross-hair gone, terminal fall triggered).

I'm not sure a dash can be performed here, but if so it might give the extra needed distance needed.
I never tried it, but what about a 2BSJ?  Would height be enough of an advantage if used wisely?  A BSJ... well, I dunno if that would work either since every time I tried the BSJ, I botched it bad since I couldn't look behind me. :\

This is a strange question, but have you tested with moonjump to make sure the ether is high and close enough to catch you before the terminal fall?  I never tested it.
I've been out there with MJ. The aether is high enough. Close enough is a matter of jump ballistics. <_< It seems as if the extra speed of a dash would do it. (Roll jumps and this room do not play well at all together.) Problem is it looks like the dash will have to be bent, or use a moving object (one of the wasps). Not something I have much hope of performing (if it's even possible).
I've had a good try and not got very far. I've tried dashing off a wasp and also standing on the hive and starting a 2bsj from there (which is entirely possible btw) ... no luck yet though.

The only other thing that occurs is deliberately jumping onto a wasp and using the damage boost for extra height / distance.

Not sure whether the dash is in the right direction there or not - I have no AR so I can't play around.
The pic below shows edge of aether (green), rock wall (red), apparent path of your dash (blue). All are my best guess. Along the rock wall would be the shortest path of course.

This vid's of a jump back from the edge of aether (from very near the point on the map pic). http://www.geriatricgamer.com/mp2/TorvTA_back.mp4[/img]

I appeciate your time with this guys. It's been bugging me for a long time. It seems possible, but I haven't the skills to come to reliable conclusion about it.
OK, I got it, but it's kinda tricky. The problem is that you have to bend the dash round the edge of the rock, and I think what I did was to stand right on the front edge of the hive, dash purely right until I was past the rock, flip the stick to backwards, hold R, and then use space jump. I've only done it once so I have no better advice than that. It's definitely possible though. Vid coming shortly.

no idea what number we're up to - always cool to have another one that doesn't require anything except space jump though, I guess.

good job.
good job!

So....doesn't that lead to 15% with floating? [Gravity/Super/early PB skip]

Seems to be SW Nr. 122 btw  grin new
SW list: http://www.scuforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=138#138

And yeah, it's 122.  Nice to finally see that room nailed. Mr. Green The list, of course, has been updated.

...maybe it's time to add some movie links or something, it's huge but uninformative as-is. :\

As for a percentage drop... it might actually.  I think the green doors guarding Hall (or was it Path?) of Eye's exits are the only thing keeping us from 15%.  I'm a little rusty though (too much .hack and FFXII), so someone else should back me up/shoot me down on that.
Wiki is updated as well. :)
one other thing I'll say about this ... if you wanted to do this in a speed run it might be possible to dash off the hive at your feet instead of wasting time trying to coax a wasp into a suitable position. In that game I had the hives already scanned though, so I couldn't try it ... I don't think a kip/freeze dash would do the job because you wouldn't have the necessary in-air manoeuvrability.
im having trouble with the alpha blogg and i cant seem too beat him and when  i tried that skipp cheat and the morf ball wont change in mid air!!!
i also think the video on this site showing her float up there was made up somehow i cant possibly see how you unmorph so fast in the water with a bomb
I'll be back. Maybe...
the alpha blogg skip requires precise timing and is probably not something you'll be wanting to do on your first playthrough.

as for the boss itself, it is generally best to try to avoid its attacks, rather than just do so much damage that it dies first. the super missiles are probably the most effective weapon you have.

and yes, it is an example of echoes being peculiar and having more difficult bosses before easier ones...

david:

I I am mostly into Prime 1, but just today I noticed some information on this very subject I had not seen here.  99% pecent of what I know about Prime 1 & 2 comes from metroid 2002 but M2K2 has a trick description called the LOL jump.  It sounds like a variation of the ghetto jump. They also described 1 or 2 alternate methods. Couldn't  find a video clip at M2K2 though.  Surely metroid 2002 does but I didn't check.  hope you find what your looking for and good luck.

AJAX
well im still trying too get through  that part but when i use the super missle and lock on and shoot theres no way too get out of the way of his attack
I'll be back. Maybe...
dash jumps are the easiest way to avoid blogg charge, but jumping and using the gravity boost can also be effective. however, both methods make it more difficult to attack and avoid being attacked back, as the missile must be exactly in line to hit the weak spot.

perhaps you are not using the dash jump properly; during my first playthrough of prime i rarely managed to use it properly.
ive tried that but every time im a little late and get hit but i can always practice
but the thing that relly makes me mad is that there isnt a save piont close by the  alpha blogg when you disable all the locks you cant go back up too save because the ball launher tube is gone!!!
i have too do all that over and over agian!!!!!
I'll be back. Maybe...
no, what you do is you disable two of the locks, and then go back up. i found that very irritating when i was playing through on hard mode.
but if i disable two of the locks and get too the dird one i have too go back up too save and when i do that i have too go a lthe way around agian two disable the dird lock.
ive come two several mixed light and  dark energy shield doors and ive shot them both with my light and dark beams so how do i open them?!
Anywhere, everywhere
Annihilator Beam.
annihalator beam?  where do i get that?
