I still need to go back and finish #2 one of these days. Think I got to Venice and then had to return the game (was renting it) and even though we now own it I haven't played since.
Playing Prime.  I've been replaying some of my metroid games recently with a new found appreciation for them.  My disappointment in Other M has made me remember what is so special about the other games.  So, I guess something positive has come out of this whole Other M fiasco anyways.
When I got to the crazy gold theme park place in FF7, I genuinely thought Cloud had died and gone to hell.
You're playing FF7 in 2010 lol.
Fuck off, some of us were too busy being 4 and wanting a Game Boy in 1997.

Look, I'm a complete RPG noob so I thought I'd start with the one everyone goes on about. Plus, I'll play anything to make my PSP feel loved.

Gotta say though, it's pretty good thus far.

All I'm saying is that it's not worth playing nowadays. I don't think I need to say why...

it might be worth it for someone who hasn't played it. i'm sure it's a popular game for a reason. i play tons of old games that i missed when i was younger.

I play lots of old games. Just not shitty overhyped ones like FF7.
You may think it's overhyped. I think it's quite good.

Straight up, you've got bad taste...

and you've got an opinion.
I know next to nothing about RPGs. I might decide in the future that FF7 is the worst RPG ever made, but for now, it's good.

Dude, would you rather play FFXIII than FFVII?

I'd rather play FFIV, FFVI, or FFIX instead. FFIX would be the best place to start if you want a game with the classic FF feel that isn't, as you put it, "too archaic." My absolute favorite is FFVI, though, and I HIGHLY recommend that game.

By no means is it the worst RPG ever made, it's just a complete popularity whore and is largely forgettable compared to some of the better games in the series (especially the SNES trio).

I honestly don't care that much. I was reccomended it by a friend (who isn't into FF as much as you seem to be) and a hot chick who was a total FF fangirl, so I bought it. S'good.

very nice. sounds like you're already ahead of people who complain about rpgs on the internet. be sure to bang her.

Wait, so you already played it? Awesome Wink
Uh no, I'm in the prison camp a little after you mean the fortune-telling cat robot thing (which was a major wtf moment).

The other thing is about RPGs is that I suck at them. I don't care how good a character's stats are or which materia is the most effective. Barret has a gun on his arm and Tifa PUNCHES THINGS TO DEATH. That's my team right there, give 'em some pimpin' materia. Sorted.

I'm-a workin on that one, she's not the easiest cosplayer in the world.

The thing with a lot of RPGs is that they can be quite "guide-based" and hard to figure out on a first playthrough. With FF7, GameFAQs and/or HCBailly's LP of the game are your best friends.
If it gets too hard I'll just give up. I have no problem doing that if I lose interest. It's why I gave up on 100%ing Arkham Asylum.
Club 27 Goals
Welp, LOTR:Online was a total waste of download and install time. Oh well, at least now I know it really didn't improve any since the beta some odd years ago.

I guess it's back to trying out GW and playing more Recettear as I wait for Notch to fix Minecraft.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
FF7 shouldn't give you any trouble, almost regardless of your materia combinations.  If you find yourself struggling, then the game is fairly generous with experience, so a touch of deliberate levelling will normally sort you out.
