I adore MM for several reasons.  The whole 3-days idea plus the myriad of abilities added by the masks adds multiple layers to the problem & puzzle solving that can't be beat.  The game really makes you think, and consequently pulls you in.  Add the awesome music and atmosphere and you have a winner.  If it aint your cup of tea then so be it, everyone has their different tastes, but I don't see how anyone can say that it's not a unique and special game.

As far as OoT goes, I think that the overwhelming majority of people who don't like that game weren't gamers when it was new.  It raised the bar like no other game in history.  If you didn't witness that raising of the bar then it's easy to take it for granted.

Because It's pretty much like every other Zelda game I've played? Or Metroid, really. Only thing unique to it I can think of is the 3day thing.

For the record:
I guess I feel that the whole 3-day scenario changes the game on a fundamental level - to such a degree that it makes it too unique for me to say that it's just like every other zelda.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
It's easily the least typical Zelda of any of the recent games. Every single one released after it copies or will copy OOT/ALTTP because goddamned gamers.

ALttP is probably the Zelda game I've had the most fun with. Since it came with Four Sword Adventures it made it twice as fun (with friends).

finally finished silent hill 4 yesterday. the game really lives up to its bad reputation - that was one of the most painful playthroughs I have ever had.
The whole escorting and apartment hauntings part of the game was completely unnecessary and didn't help making it a fun game at all.

Now I'm going to finish sonic CD.

edit: done, finally beat this. it's pretty good, but I don't like its overly maze-like characteristics. : /
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Just starting World 3 of Mario Galaxy 2.  Pretty sure I have every star / emblem so far.  Onward, Mario!

Are you saying that the typical style of Zelda games is bad?

It's gotten very old lately, and I think MM probably holds up better than OoT for having so much more gameplay depth with the 3-day thing. MM also has the most interesting World to be SavedTM, something severly lakcing in games like TP and Minish Cap.

At this point? Yeah. It's pretty bad. It's been run so far into the ground it's not even funny. I cannot begin to understand why people want every game to be like ALTTP/OOT, if you want to play those games, play those games. I'd much rather they take a couple risks with the series and have a little fun with it instead of spitting out the same game every few years. MM did some of neat things and pretty much none of them survived past that game because of the inexplicable hard on for OOT. Gotta have all that empty overworld space yo, no time for something interesting.

Basically Ocarina of Time ruined Twilight Princess and it is your fault.

While I love OoT unconditionally, this statement is 100% true.
Still plugging away at Majora's Mask.  I have a tendency to be a completionist on zelda and metroid games, going for all hearts, etc.  It's not always easy to bypass getting all the heart containers, but I'm finding that it's speeding the game up alot more than I anticipated.  I guess I didn't realize how much work some of them are to get, and if you think about it 1/4 of a heart container is not something to jump for joy over.  I'm at Stone Tower now with only one row of hearts (double strength ones, though) but if you know what you're doing then you don't really need alot of life to begin with.  Have to get the Great Fairy Sword though.
Going to hook up my N64 and play some Mystical Ninja.

"Play some" means beat the game in a single sitting.

TP is too much like OOT in some ways, not enough in others.
I failed.

Turns out the game is far too slow paced for me to get it beat 100% in one sitting. gets too boring too fast.
oh well

Don't blame yourself.

Just rehooked my N64, just going through GoldenEye (I'm willing to bet that someone will tell me that the Wii remake is potentially garbage) and also, Star Fox 64 (jeez, 1368 kills on Expert for the first time in ages. I'm horrible. Corneria>Sector Y>Aquas>Zoness>Macbeth>Area 6>Venom was the route).

And on my PC, I just finished the Half-Life 1 Anthology (Xen through Gordon's route is horrifying). Now going through Half-Life 2 (on Chapter 10: AntiCitizen One).

Being like OOT at all is no longer a good thing.

A route that includes Aquas cannot possibly be the best route.

Zoness makes up for everything that Aquas does. Macbeth and Area 6 are just wonderful icing on the cake.

i love aquas lol ... but i love most of the stages in that game i guess.
Never really liked Aquas much. Think my best route was: Corneria - Meteor - Katina - Sector X - Macbeth - Area 6 - Venom. Haven't played the game in a while, but I think that got me to about 1400-1500 kills when I was on a good run.

But yeah, a lot of great levels in that game. Not sure which one I'd single out as my favorite if I had to make a choice. Do know that I really love Katina, Macbeth, and Area 6 though, so they get my votes for the moment.

Katina I liked just because it was the famous "Independence Day" stage. Macbeth... I personally would have to single that just because of the grand scale of destruction you can do (best moment is the eight-switch ending).

And Arkarian... do you remember the time one, two years ago when you nearly had that argument with the Silly Goose about Titania and Macbeth in the Social Topic?
red chamber dream
no idea. macbeth rules though and titania can suck my big floopy acid worm.
Katina and Area 6 especially are so chaotic and crazy, but that's a good part of why I love them so much. And yeah, getting all eight of those switches on Macbeth and seeing the end result never gets old.

Funny thing is, I'm debating whether or not to load up the game right now and play through it a bit after this discussion. (Well that, and I've been watching videos of both the SNES and 64 Star Fox games this afternoon after seeing this conversation originally.) Thinking I'll end up doing that in a minute since I haven't played it in a while.

I don't mind Aquas much myself, it's kinda slow and can get annoying sometimes but it's really not as bad as people say. It's also the only way to get to Zoness and if you're not going to Zoness you aren't playing the game right.
