easily a better shmup by definition than R-Type Final.

Why do you think so?

R-Type Final is more a shooting experience than a shooting game. Just consider the low replay value thanks to "boringly slow" stages and lack of action. I know it's  fun the first time through, but not so much after a few hours of play time.

Having multiple ships and customization seems more awesome than it actually is. Thanks to that there's pretty much no real balance in the game, since you're free to abuse overpowered ships however you want, and start off with ridiculously weak ships.
I know it's possible to balance the game yourself by picking just the right ship for every stage, but just finding out which ship fits you perfect for each stage without being too weak/strong would take hours of time you could have just spent playing a balanced shmup.

Increasing the difficulty also doesn't help with there being minutes of play time without any enemies on screen, especially on the first two levels.

There's a bunch of shmups I can just fire up anytime and have a guaranteed blast. R-Type Final makes me regret to have started playing it just after a few minutes in.

You're probably more likely to post songs about "bros and hoes" more than I am. I mainly listen to old music.

Finished the mall level in Silent Hill 3. jesus, for an introduction level that was pretty crazy, with pretty strong enemies turning up near the end and stuff.

I'm also a big boy now, having managed to play this at night in a darkened room. When I played SH2 some months I ago I could barely play it even in the midst of day.

I'm at the subway now and fuck this shit. Fought a bunch of dogs (to make exploring a suspicious room more easy and safer) and ended up wasting a bunch of bullets and almost all my health items. Turned out I was exploring the completely wrong place. Damn

I also missed a really stupid placed save spot at first. What were they thinking putting it into an optional floor? First time I went into the subway I took a parallel floor and ended up wondering where the f.in' save spot was

then I got run over by a subway train

then I was lucky the game has a continue option, because otherwise I would have had to refight the mall boss. Not to mention the short track to the boss room which was kinda freaky.

but the subway train out of nowhere was FFFUUUU. cheap death
Hehe, but dont worry about difficulty. SH3 plays better than SH2, it has a better combat system, you just have make use of it;)

And do yourself a favor. The game has a surprise. Later you will find a haunted house. Make sure to play especially this part at night with proper anxious atmosphere and tell me how it was;)

I tried out Singularity last night at 12:30.

Since I didn't know ANYTHING about that game it scared the shit out of me when I heard some growling, and the only thing I had to defend myself was a knife, and I started seeing dead bodies. Then I heard this little girl giggling and bouncing a ball outside of this house I was in, so I decided that Singularity is DEF a day-time game.
Judging on the screenshots on gfaqs, this game doesn't look very scary at all ...
Club 27 Goals
its more of the stuff jumping out of you, atmosphere scary (kinda like Bioshock).
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I don't know if having things jump out of me is atmospheric, but it'd certainly be terrifying.

Jump scares aren't really dependent on atmosphere though, more like "Ohgodfuckablegarble a thing in my face!"
Club 27 Goals
yeah not really dependent, but the atmosphere adds tension and suspense.
Yeah, judging from the screens it isn't very atmospheric. It seems to be a rather bright game playing in the outside, so I can't even see how generic zombie-monsters jumping at you should be scary under these conditions.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Some of us are cowards and jump when things approach the screen at a high rate of speed in first person games okay? Fuck headcrabsSad
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Headcrabs always drove me mad when they did that.  I recall numerous runs through the original game when they made me jump.  Sometimes, I'd even have it happen, turn round to see where they'd got to, so I could kill them, and the little bastards would do it again! aiwebs_001
Ready to internet!
I can never play Half Life anymore without thinking "What would he be saying in this situation?" thanks to Freeman's Mind.

The zombies of Ravenholm made both me and my brother who was watching me spasm in shock-fear. Glad no one saw.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
It's funny because the Zombies don't really get me, fast ones might surprise me now and then, but headcrabs will get me every. fucking. time.
"Ok, I know there's a crab right... ther- gahfuggrable dammit!" I am the worst.

Those zombies that throw their headcrabs at you have made me scream like a girl, no joke. I don't think I could ever play an actual horror game.
I think playing with someone else with you means your mind is in the real world, and being jarred back into the game world, particularly by something frightening, increases the shock value.

I mean this, this video is no big spoiler but the first 5 sec are more than enough to determine where you are:
Ah, no, wasn't there yet
One shall stand, one shall ball.

To be fair, those poison headcrabs are the stuff of nightmares anyway. A big zombie throwing them at you isn't helpful. Especially since with him around you could actually be killed.
Oh God, I hate those things too. Thank God shotguns took care of those bastards rather quickly.
