Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!

Also, mouse and keyboard sucks.

Once you're used to it, and have all of your controls set up properly, nothing beats a keyboard and mouse combination for FPSs.  Although I still very much enjoy console FPSs too.

i'm used to it and still don't like it much. would much rather play on console. :P
The best thing for FPSeses is by far the glorious N64 controller.

Even better than that - two of them.

When it comes to FPSes, console controllers, especially those with analog sticks, can go shove it. Mouse + keyboard for the win. You have way more precise camera control with a mouse, and you have a lot more freedom in choosing your controls on a keyboard.
I like both types, so I don't care either way. (Still think Corruption has one of the best console control schemes for a first person game though, once you put the settings to max/whatever it was called.)
Ready to internet!
Just schooled my sisters on Rock Band Drums. Ace of Spades '08 came up, neither of them could keep time. After I'd mocked them for a while, I took their challenge of "So you think you can do better?" and mashed the ever-loving crap out of the drums. I got 95%ish and a 323 streak, and the bit that really pissed them off was when I said "I've not tried that track before!"

Admittedly, it was on Easy, but I'm still a newbie to RB Drums.

My 6 year old little sister kicks major ass at the golfing on the Wii summer sports resort.

And for the record, I am unbeatable at the sword thing.
You're also unbeatable at being obsessed with the new grass starter.

Speaking of, when are they going to show what they evolve into?
Oh my God. Why have I never played a PC FPS before?! Mouse and keyboard is wonderful. What's that? Headcrab jumping at me-KABOOOM!!

Welcome to the master race.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
anyone who has trouble with console fps controls is literally retarded. just fyi.
I don't have trouble with console FPSs. Perfect Dark is one of my favourite games ever. But the mouse is so accurate and responsive.
Console FPSs built around console controls are great. PC FPSs ported to console (HALO, ffs) don't work half as well.

er, halo is a console game that was later ported to pc.

one of the reasons i like console fpses is that aiming isn't super easy. feels more like i'm actually trying to shoot something rather than clicking on it.
i know that sounds like the same argument people make for the tank controls in the old resident evil games (it adds to the experience!!), but i dunno. it's true.

Really? I was told otherwise. I guess I just accepted it because it plays, to me, like a PC game.

Actually, every dual-analogue First-person game with jumping feels a bit like a PC game to me.

Ark, you know that when you aim on consoles, and the crosshair goes over a person it slows down so that its easier to hit the person? Bring a friend over, start up COD, and swing in a circle, and have you friend stand there, and you will spin noticeably slower when aiming over him.

For the record, the first Halo was designed for the mac, later Microsoft took them, then released on the PC and xbox. So, the first one was pretty much a PC port to console, but that only applies to the first one.

that's called auto-aim, and i don't mind it at all. it's like saying it's wrong to use z-targeting in ocarina of time, except in shooters it can still be pretty tough to hit guys even with auto-aim on. you can also usually just turn auto-aim off if you'd like. that said, i've never played cod so it might be different in those games.

that's totally wrong ... not sure where you read that. after microsoft's acquisition, bungie rewrote the entire engine to fit the xbox. then another studio ported it to pc years later.

I guess I'm a phreak because I don't really use my PC for gaming.  Emu and flash games don't count.  There were some very lol-ish oldskool games on floppy disks that I used to play, but gaming for me started in the arcade and then went to the gaming console.  The only games I ever played on the PC are Aquaria and the original Tomb Raider.

Playing SMG still and have 99 stars. I need to quit fucking playing it and start preparing dinner.  Todd's coming over and I'm making him an awesome meal that's actually healthy.  He needs to lose some weight so this is my chance to show him that he can eat like a king and not kill himself at the same time.

He's a total video game virgin.  I mentioned that gaming was my main hobby and he thought I was talking about monopoly and scrabble.  When I told him that it was VIDEO games, he kinda shrugged and said that he used to play them when he was a kid, so basically he still thinks that video games are like pacman.  Not sure whether I should actually try to share my gaming with him, or keep it to myself like knitting or something.

Anyways, I'm kinda stoned and rambling so I'm just gonna put some clothes on and get away from the 'puter.

stoned and rambling is one of the best states to be in. no worries.

Speaking of Bungie games for the Mac, anyone here played the Marathon Trilogy? It's a lot more fun than Halo, IMO, and definitely included some innovations for its time, like dual-wielding and having clips of ammo instead of just one chunk of ammo. It was also the first FPS series with a plot...

Oh, well then. That's the last time I take the word of my halo-fanboy friend before actually looking into it myself :P From what I remember hearing was that Halo was originally supposed to be on the mac, to show off the mac's graphical capabilities, but then something happened and it was released on the xbox and pc (the way my friend said it made it sound like they came out at the same time), but then was later ported to OS X.

Either way, Halo: Custom Edition is the only halo I truly had lots of fun with, especially when I convinced 4 of my friends to play it with me together. I've never had so much fun on Rainbow Road before. All of the custom maps, vehicles, guns, etc, really made special. Good times. I miss them ;_;

omg i remember playing that at my friend's house.  It was so 3D and real looking that it made me queasy.  lol
