The second gen water starter is really the only good water starter, and second gen's grass starter is the worse starter ever.

What's wrong with you.

I like a challenge.  :)

The best Pokemon that there ever will be is Swampert.  Only real weakness I've come across so far is Grass-Types, and even those can be taken out quickly with an Earthquake or two.  :P

Everyone needs to read that at least once in their life. It may not be as awesome as the Animal Crossing fanfic, but it's still really good.

Playing a little X-Com recently, and had one of those missions that make it so awesome. One of those missions where you know pretty much from the beginning that it's all going to hell because your tank dropped to single digit health after taking a single shot and one of your best shooters unloaded two heavy plasma auto shots on a Muton only to hit twice and leave the Muton standing as if you'd thrown a couple moderately sized rocks in his general direction.
Twice.

A mission where Mutons are chucking grenades around like free candy, killing three and seriously injuring three more before I've even found the UFO's entrance. I lose another almost immediately after entering the UFO, leaving three wounded sergeants (two of which were promoted because I'm at the point in the game where promotions to sergeant are handed out for breathing), one healthy sergeant and two healthy captains are are pretty good and- oh wait no, one just took three shots point blank while the other stood there watching, oh never mind he's dead now too. Fortunately the mission was pretty much over at that point and I could limp my Skyranger home hoping to God that that base doesn't get attacked anytime soon because there is only one competent soldier to defend it for the next week and I need to start churning out flying suits.

It's funny, I hate taking losses in these kind of games. Hate it. But some how with X-Com a ballkicking 60% fatality rate with a 90% total casualty rate is awesome and considered a job well done. In fact my biggest problem with Apocalypse is that my dudes just didn't die unless a rogue Brainsucker caught them. X-Com is weird.

Pretty close to finishing the Conduit. It's pretty decent; not as bad as the IGN review said it was but not as good as the IGN previews said it was going to be. The gameplay is pretty basic FPS stuff that wouldn't be out of place 5 years ago, but still fun enough. All developers on all systems really need to take extensive notes on what High Voltage did here though, because the fully customizable user interface is phenomenal. You can tweak EVERYTHING; run speed, turn speed, sensitivity on both axis, dead zone size, and more... all in real time so you can actually see and feel the difference instead of guessing at numbers. PLUS you have a fully remappable control scheme which is sadly a rarity, AND you can shuffle the layout of every element of the HUD to your liking.

Haven't tested the multiplayer waters due to my shitty connection but I hear it's full of cheaters anyway.

It built up the creepiness well, and was awesome enough to mention Junichi Masuda, but it really fizzles out and becomes predictable at the end.

X-COM Battle

Heh, that reminds me of the first mission on Superhuman which I started a while back and then got distracted with other things. (Only played it through January before stopping.) Came out of the Skyranger with my tank, turned to see the UFO parked right next to me (Seems I have excellent pilots since that happens fairly often these days.) and it takes out the first Sectoid easily. However, I didn't expect the FIVE Sectoids to be hanging out inside the small UFO when I got there, and by the time I had cleared them out of the UFO I had lost about 1/2 my squad to those guys. The other one wandering around in the bushes at that point killed another guy, and because my remaining squad members couldn't take it out before it would've killed another I had my tank fire in that general direction and nearly kill two of my own guys in the process. (The two who just happen to be, if I'm remembering this right, the only survivors of my original ten man squad after the first month!)

X-COM is great stuff. Right on about the fatality/casualty rates being completely acceptable, since anything better than that is the stuff of dreams on most missions when you're playing on higher difficulties. Someone manages to survive five missions and he practically becomes a legend... until he takes a few shots of heavy plasma directly to the face in his next mission, that is.
Dood Trigger™
More Mega Man 10.

Okay, so going Blade, then Pump and weaknesses from that is a nice order. I have a weapon for almost every situation. Still not entirely happy with it, but it's the best so far.

I'm pretty much set on the fortress, at least.

I'm watching a Let's Play run of MM10 on YouTube, fresh out of the "box", it's hilarious. I love how much these games make us swear and then on the second trip we go "oh, it's not so bad".
Splinter Cell 1, Pandora Tomorrow and WipEout Fusion for £5. If I get time I'll try and plough through the Splinter Cells, but I have little time for anything other than the Capcom Vs. games and MGS3 lately.

Haha, maybe that's what makes X-Com fatalities different in my mind, it's a game where people are not expected to die they are going to die. You don't really have medics or anything like that so you just go in knowing that no matter how well positioned your men are, someone is getting heavy plasma'd in the face so it might as well be that rookie over there instead of someone actually good. If he survives you might bother to check his stats and even learn his name!

In my current game I actually have a few people from that initial group still around, I know one of them specifically because she was always one of the first off the Skyranger, armed with a pistol and a stun rod to spot targets and maybe capture some aliens if she didn't die. She didn't, got shot a couple times and was deactivated for a few days where I was actually annoyed at not having my veteran scout with crazy TUs and she's pretty much my best soldier now. Also has 98 Psi strength and I'm pretty happy that she didn't die early on when I was pretty much trying to get her killed. Sata Kojima: X-Com Legend.
I've managed to have a few people survive to something like 15 or so missions, and I think one guy got as far as 25 before he bought it. I have it written down somewhere from my last time through the game when I was taking very detailed notes on my progress, but it's a pretty rare thing for me to get beyond 5 to 10 missions before a person dies. But you're right: You have to go in expecting that very few of your soldiers are going to make it out alive each mission because of how the game works.

That's why in my Superhuman game I have it setup so I changed everyone to numbers based on the time the hiring order, and anyone who gets through five missions alive or kills five aliens earns a randomly generated name through some lists I found online ages ago. Kinda simulates that aspect of X-COM where it's as if my soldiers don't bother learning about each other enough to care about their teammates on a personal level because even they know there's a high chance they won't see them again once the mission is over. So far I have managed to get two guys, those first two who survived the tank blast that took out that final Sectoid in my first misssion, who have gotten the "honor" of a name. I think they're Omar and Frederick or something like that. Can't remember what their last names ended up being.

Ouch... that sounds like a really terrible outlook on the game when I see it in writing.

Ok so I went to a friend's last night

We spent literally 8 hours transferring pokemon from our Pearl games to our Heart Gold games. We both started new games on HG, so we had to go and catch a shitton of ratata's, hoothoot's, and spinirak's until we had enough to trade over.

After trading both of our arceus's over we went and got the level 1 Dialga, then traded it with eachother so we both get boosted exp. I completely raped Falkner with my level 13 baby-lucario, level 13 Shinx, and level 13 Dialga. This is going to be a great run of Heart Gold.

Oh and also I started a new game on Ruby using Nuzlocke's rules. Very fun.

Started a bit into Cursed Mountain. Don't think I'm even an hour in yet, but so far I'm actually very impressed. The name and box art kind of give off the impression that it's another one of those half-ass budget Wii titles, but aside from a few weird animations it looks great and seems like a lot of effort went into it. It's kind of blatantly ripping off re4 to some degree, but if you're going to rip something off it might as well be the best. I'm also kind of getting an Eternal Darkness vibe from some of the psychological-type spooks they're throwing out there and the creepy chanting, and any game that can remind me of re4 and ED at the same time is absolutely okay by me.

fuck i still need to play eternal darkness too. should be able to start cursed mountain soon though.

Fixed that for you. "Oh, number 49 is still alive, you get a name, sir. Good job. You're boned next mission though." I usually just tag my dudes with a letter after their name based on how good their initial stats are and if they have the strength to carry an autocannon early on. Then I try to keep the better ones alive until I can see their Psi Strength a which point it all gets reorganized and the really psi weak get tagged as "sponge" so I know to toss a couple of unarmed wimps on board the Skyranger when dealing with alien psionics to soak up all the psi attacks. I know my troops mostly by A's, B's, *s, and blanks. If you don't get a letter you an outstanding example of cannon fodder, B's are pretty solid so they hand behind the blanks mostly, A's are like B's but with better Psi stats and mostly snipe, *s have 90+ Psi Strength and will hang out with the A's but are the first to run away when things get messy because they'll be needed for more important battles.

That all holds pretty well until night time Terror Missions come around, especially with Snakemen. I declare them all dead when I send the Skyranger over there, only those that deserve to survive will come back.

I try to keep all of them alive if I can, but as we mentioned, that's literally impossible with this game. I do tend to favor certain soldiers over others if they've been around for a while or do something amazing on a previous mission for instance, but otherwise I take everybody I get and try my best to have them survive. It mostly ends up as "who is the closest to the UFO/alien to do what needs to be done?" rather than sending in specialists or the cannon fodder or whatnot. Of course, the ones I favor and the higher ranked guys are the ones that typically end up with the better equipment, but if my Genius game I played before and the first month of Superhuman are any indication, I won't be able to keep up with all of the equipment demand because I'll be struggling to keep up my cash flow due to death and loss of equipment during missions.

My last game taught me how much those Flying Suits end up costing in the long run along with everything else I needed to rebuild each time my teams were decimated. "16 Elerium PER Flying Suit? Sorry boys... Looks like we spent all of our resources on your armor, so we can't fuel the ship to get to the aliens to get more of this stuff! Oh, and by the way, we can't afford to rent a Skyranger temporarily either because we spend all of our money just to hire you boys every week!"

Edit: Found the videos I recorded. #10 is Omar Bradshaw, and #17 is Frederick Heinz, both because they passed the five kill mark.
Enjoyed Heavy Rain this weekend. Controls are pure crap but it is an interactive movie first place.

The first play-through is the most exiting anyway. You can easily play it through in one day session. So I recommend just to rent it.
