pretty well into beyond good & evil. loving the game so far; seems like it does everything right. pop 2008 is still rocking too. i thought it would get boring or repetitive but neither has happened yet. just got the third plate power.

So there seems to be a bunch of Hollywood Video and GameCrazys closing.

ah, thanks for the notice. i'll have to stop in to the local one tomorrow and see if they're one of them.

House of the Dead: Overkill is totally awesome. That is all.

fuck yes. one of my favorite games for wii and possibly my favorite rail shooter of all time.

Just gonna have to look out for Advance and the PSone Sword of Mana.

Depending on your tastes, your enjoyment will vary wildly from Secret of Mana.  Sword of Mana, for the GBA, is very good, and Children of Mana is OK if you're happy with dungeon crawler type games.  I struggled to enjoy the PlayStation one, as I felt it strayed too far from the path.  You could also emulate Secret of Mana 2, as it has English patches available.

And there's just so much competition for that title you know it's meaningful! :p

My favourite Wii game is A Link to the Past.

I'm actually not a big rail shooter fan, nor have I played House of the Dead 1-3 for any legitimate amount of time. But yeah, Overkill is definitely underrated and just fantastically put together from start to finish. Gonna get a lot of time out of it, I think.

My attention is really divided right now though, thanks to that sale at Gamestop. I picked up the Conduit, Cursed Mountain, and Rune Factory Frontier at the same time as Overkill, so I'm kinda dabbling in each a bit instead of really throwing myself into anything. Didn't even mean to get all Wii games, just kinda happened.

Try playing as Sakuya A if you aren't already. It makes everything so much easier.

I need to get around to beating the extra stage one of these days...

I'll give that a shot, I've been using Marisa A. I think the copy I totally didn't download came with Sakuya A beaten already, but what the hell.

Geez, just researched how money works in HotDO. The fact that bonuses and hi-scores are shared over Story and Director's Cut but weapons are not is totally nonsensical and creates a ton of problems when going for a complete arsenal. Looks like I'm going to have to do some awkward grinding to ensure I don't screw myself over in the future.

An unfortunate blemish on an otherwise stellar game.

i wasn't aware that bonuses and high scores were shared. but yeah i read up on the scoring system before getting too far into the game, so i just played through story mode once, only getting one or two upgrades. played director's cut ever since - no reason to go back to story mode, obviously. i was actually able to buy all the guns and upgrades with fairly minimal grinding. just have to beat some high scores. all you really need though is the auto shotgun - easily the best weapon in the game. but the others offer more of a challenge.

the game is so damn fun that the grinding hardly matters anyway - once you unlock dual-wield mode it kicks ass all over again. that's one thing i really like about the game - director's cut basically forces you to play through the game again because it's the "real" game. but i don't think that's a bad thing because otherwise i'd probably put it down after beating story mode. director's cut sucked me back in and i ended up playing the game to death. then dual-wield just made it even better.

checked out gamestop's sale today and ended up buying cursed mountain too. guess i'll find out soon enough if it's any good. i've heard good things.

I took your advice on Secret of Mana 2, so that's ready any time.  Might Co-Op with a friend too, thanks to NetPlay.  It's next on my list once I finish Secret of Mana 1.  Then I've got Children of Mana, as well as a few ROMhacks since I just figured out patching with LunarIPS (>_>).  But those can wait until whenever.

Yeah, I guess I'll just jump into DC mode and not stress about it too much. If I get overly concerned about it I'll just suck all the fun out of it. Maybe later I'll start a brand new file and do things 'right.'

If you're on a 'Secret of' binge, then you might well enjoy Secret of Evermore.  It's got a very different style to it, but the core is Mana through and through.  And since you mentioned hacks, there's a two-player patch available for it on the net.  I can't tell you how disappointing it was when I'd caned Mana with a friend, and then found Evermore to be single-player only. Started rocking Director's Cut, and I see what you meant when you said there's no reason to go back to story. Got a fully upgraded auto shotty by Carny, so I guess I'm good to go.
red chamber dream
nice. yeah director's cut is the actual game lol ... story mode is short and gimped in comparison.

Joke post?
Linux on ps3 just got removed last week.

Anyways the real lookers on ps3 are uncharted 2 (you say you got uncharted, but I don't know if it's 1 or 2), killzone 2, and god of war iii, which has some pretty insane visuals. The opening scene alone is one of the best set pieces in recent memory.
red chamber dream
lol yes, i was joking. about the hdmi cable too. :P

and yeah uncharted 2 is the main reason i bought a ps3. i just figured i should play 1 first. definitely going to get killzone 2 as well as resistance 1 and 2, folklore, and the ratchet & clanks. god of war ... we'll see. not really interested in the game but when it's a lot cheaper i'll probably get it for the hell of it.
Yeah, I still need to get around to Uncharted 2 one of these days. Got it for Christmas and haven't played it yet, although my brother beat it pretty quick.

short but sweet ftw.

More Mega Man 10 for the win.

Trying to figure out an order. It's really damn hard in this game, there are so many possibilities and I can't seem to find my rhythm with the weapons.

One thing I loved was going through Nitro's with only the Mirror Buster. Literally only ONE enemy in this level can't die with you holding the button and running forward. It's awesome. And with the whole Wheel Cutter frenzy, it's nice to have Mirror to clear the area out of projectiles during the fight.

Solar, I know his weapon is great at Blade's, but it's hard to resist going through his level with Wheel Cutter in hand.

I got Commando down at least, he's definitely my last guy. I use almost every weapon in his level.

What else... oh, I want Rush Jet for Sheep, so he's my fifth guy at least (as Mega Man, since Proto and Bass can fly through from the start).

Not in a big gaming mood lately, to be honest. Still have God of War III, Arkham and BioShock 2 sealed, not to mention my $50 PSN card that I'm gonna use to download RE5 DLC. PS3 will see a lot of gaming in a short while...

finished beyond good & evil. i don't think it's quite as good a game as "they" say it is, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. time to start valkyria chronicles ...
