Well, I made it up to Follow Freeman, and looks like ark was right; the game got a lot better real quick starting with Anticitizen Zero. Most of my complaints are still in effect, but it seems the extra shot of adrenaline found here was the x-factor that's been missing so far. Actually looking foreward to what's coming next now.

Finished HL2. Glad they didn't tack on some silly boss fight with that evil scientist guy. Loved the upgraded gravity gun too.

Now I'm halfway-ish through ep1. So far more consistently fun than HL2.

i actually agree with you on that, though i don't think it's better overall than hl2.
Episode 2 is probably my overall favorite part of the story arc, although each one has moments that shine and stand out from each other. It's the combined package that makes the game so great in my eyes, since they all have something to offer. Although I too agree that Episode 1 is probably my least favorite part, but it's kinda like the Metroid series where one game may not be as great as the rest, but it still surpasses a good portion of other games in the end.

Episode 1 was shit. I can't understand why people like it, it became anti fun the second the took the super gravity gun away and got stupid the second they put you in pitch black tunnels full of Zombies and decided that that should be half the game. The end was pretty fun, though.

I just want to know who was responsible for the Zombie Tunnels and the fight all the zombies while some elevator takes fifteen minutes to descend sequence at the end, because nothing screams great gameplay like fighting Fast Zombies and Zombines when you can't see shit! Because fuck that guy. That was honestly the one of the worst sequences in any game I've ever played, probably top 3.

heh i liked that part ...
Well yeah, that's a good part of what keeps it back for me as well, although there has been once or twice where I went though it and did pretty well. I've still seen worse in other games though, which is why it's not as bad for me I guess. Either that, or the gravity gun makes up for anything I don't find as exciting since I always end up doing something cool with it.

It would be tolerable if the objects picked up by the gravity gun didn't block most of your vision and as a result your flashlight. That is not the time to be limiting your vision further, it absolutely needed to be done with actual guns, just giving you a steady supply of shotgun ammo would have been something. The reason Ravenholm was actually fun and not stupid was because you could see what you wanted to shoot that barrel at, you didn't have to guess based on where it probably was when you thought you maybe saw the silhouette of its arm near that flare lying on the ground that lights up approximately six inches of the room while staring at the back of this barrel. You also didn't have any Zombines knocking you back into the blast radius of the grenade their buddy dropped when he died, causing you to lose your hearing for the second needed for that Fast Zombie to launch itself at the back of your head. You also had saw blades, which are actually the perfect object for low visibility areas since they don't block any significant portion of the screen. It's just a really poorly designed sequence that runs far, far too long.

I made it through that part with very little trouble, but then again I didn't even bother trying the gravity gun. I just shotgunned everything Alyx was taking too long to kill... which was most things, actually. But yeah, it was a little silly.

Also, if they gave you the upgraded gravity gun, and only that, for the entirety of the game, it would probably be about 110% better.

Will pick up my copy of God of War III the day after tomorrow.

Right now, Act 6 of Muramasa as Kisuke.

Level 31, 67 Blades, about 20 hours of gameplay total now.

Done the Tengu Enemy Lair challenge, was much easier with him for some reason.

Act 4's boss fight was a little girl who could summon birds, there was a nice little mechanic where if you could deflect her bombs at the right moment they would explode in her face. The Act 5 boss was a huge spider. Big monster with little minions, ANNOYING as heck. Escaping paralysis via button mashing is so not fun.

Yeah, taking that wonderful piece of equipment away from you after handing it to you so early really was a tremendous dick move. Throwing dudes around is just way too much fun.
Club 27 Goals
I'm sure there's a mod SOMEWHERE out there that lets you do exactly that (keeping the upgraded gravity gun for the rest of the game).

finished sly 2 yesterday - decent game, but nothing special like the first was. i'll get to 3 eventually i suppose. about halfway through prey; still a pretty fun game but it's lost some of its initial appeal. about to start ratchet & clank.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Love Ratchet and Clank. extra_smug

Hopefully you'll love Quark as much as I did.  If so:
You can look forward to the sequels, as they have a 2D minigame where you can play as him. aiwebs_011

Chapter 4 of what could only be Harvey Dent's favorite game, Half-Life 2 Episode 2. Pretty good so far. I'm glad this is the last ep so far though, I'm gonna be completely burned out on HL by the end of this.

Sweet mother of pearl. Defending the missile against those striders was amazing. Definitely one of the top gaming moments of recent memory. If the rest of the series came even close to matching that sequence I'd be all over that shit. Still, good to go out on a high note, I guess.

Just finished my second playthrough of Shattered Memories. Great game, just wish there were more puzzles. Exploration is fun on its own, but the game's still too close to some interactive movie BS for me. I also don't like how you don't earn the ending in any way, they just slap it into your face saying "hey, 'game' 's over".

I also recommend playing the game when being dead tired. Played it with a friend from 11PM to about 2:30AM and we've seen dozens of things that weren't even there. Tons of imaginary corpses, and my friend even held the plants in the river for raw shocks lingering out of the water. Fun stuff.

Going to spend some more time with Estpolis now.

Did you save all of the buildings? A true bad ass saves all the buildings.

I'm still not entirely sure what I think about that sequence, it could get really frantic and a little frustrating and oh fuckfuckfuckfuuuck, but that was kind of the point so it was definitely well executed. It was definitely fun to plow your car into a group of Hunters then hop out and make a Strider explode, that was an incredibly satisfying explosion.

Even more satisfying when you take down a Strider with a single shot from your dinky pistol.

Well, besides trying to beat HeartGold and limping my way through Mega Man 10, I've been trying out Grandia. I've only just made it out of the Sult Ruins, so I can't fully judge the game just yet. But it's been an okay game so far.

Likely won't play this until I'm done with Muramasa and after I play Mega Man 10's DLC, but it's next up after that.
