Da Dood: Without spoiling anything, please please PLEASE tell me that the ending to the first game is left completely unexplained. This is how it should be.
Yeah, that stuff with Travis and his sister is pretty much the most fucked up thing ever.
But yes, I was talking about the very ending. The picture thing. Explaining what that was about would totally ruin it and I'm glad to hear that they didn't.
That's not very much for a non-low budget game. ._.
By the way, you played Castlevania ReBirth, right? Did you manage to pull off the stage select trick? Because it somehow won't work for me. :|
What stage select trick?
>> * Level select
At the title screen, select Game Start and hold right on the d-pad for a few seconds. You'll be able to select and play any levels you have previously reached on the same difficulty.
Played some MM9 these days. Beat the Special Stage for the first time, replaced my old Endless Atack record of 7x with 86 and finally finished the game with Protoman. All that's left is a no-helmet challange.
And .. I just almost beat Platinum's elite4. Cynthia completely raped me, also because I went out of revives. Guess I'll finish this today.
That aside, I finally got a notice from my custom's office that my copy of Estpolis has arrived there. Going to grab it on tuesday.
Having a great time. I'm noticing some little things about the first game that aren't here anymore, like the announcer who says the name of the assassin when you enter the ranked fight, and the results screen after each mission. The bosses are also much more simple this time, at least from what I can tell so far.
I bought the huge-ass red saber. That thing murders.

Once you complete the level, does it then go to the next level? If so, that would kinda be like a saved game, except it would take you back one whole level. The inability to save was the main grip about this game.

Yes and no. Whenever I restart the game it forces me to restart at level 1, which is pretty annoying considering the game is quite long.
I've been playing The Last Remnant for awhile, not really sure what to think yet. The controls seem really wonky since its supposed to be played with a controller. Hopefully things will pick up.
Also during HG I went up against Bugsby, and I used the Falkner method to beat her since I didn't win the first time. I just kept making my Pidgey use roost + gust and finally took down her Scyther.
HAHAHA @ Destroy Stadium fight. Now that's what I call murdering the continuity. The fight was pretty simple, like most in this game.
"You better go to the bathroom, this is a long story."
I'm sure everyone knows Shinobu is playable by now, sorry about the spoilers otherwise. Shinobu plays... fine. Her fighting style isn't that much different, but being able to jump, man, how liberating. Her air combo is freaking deadly. Normally I would hate the switch-a-rama in that one room in the bank, but in a game where you're glued to the floor almost the entire time, it felt fresh. And her save animation was greeeat. ^^
And speaking of continuity, the boss of her second mission, LOLers, despite the pain in the ass that was fighting him. Them.
So I got a Nunchuk move from taking care of Jeane (is it the same as the one from the first game?) and Rose Nasty from the guy who traded weird e-mails with Bishop. Woot!
Attack and health are maxed out. Last muscle training session was brutal, but it was actually the only one I got on my first try. All side jobs and Revenge Missions available so far are done.
About Castlevania Rebirth, you put the cursor on Game Start, then hold Right for a few seconds. Don't actually select Game Start by pressing A.
And I've been playing Rondo of Blood today. Compared to the PSP version, it seems so much better for some reason. The cut-scenes are in Japanese (except the intro, which is in German, with Japanese subtitles) but I'm getting the basic gist, Dracula's revived again, a Belmont sets out to kill him and saves girls along the way. I like that for once, one of the villains actually tries to catch him at the start of the game. It doesn't work, but it's still cool.
Wow, how did they manage to ruin the Schpeltiger? That fight sucked. Which reminds me...
The little things I miss from No More Heroes One, brought to you by Schpeltiger™:
- Sylvia contacting Travis on the Wiimote. - Diane from Beef Head Videos. PLEASE tell me they at least make a reference to this. - The narrator who says the assassin's name before entering the ranked fight. - Assassination Gigs. I love the side jobs here, but earning cash with blood is even better. - Schpeltiger. I don't like being forced to cross Santa Destroy in One, but I would like me some more Schpelty use...
Henry plays... fine, too. The Wesker dash is really cool. But did they have to introduce the character on a freaking boss fight? Or was that it for Henry? I would prefer a big brawl like the beginning of Margaret's level.
I finished all Revenge Missions, got a NO JACKET item in the closet. Now I can see the shirts! But I prefer Travis with the jacket on. Hey, it's pretty neat how you get all these little prizes for completing the side quests. Wasn't expecting that.
And speaking of... there was a LAST muscle training session, which was INSANE. I don't know how I managed to beat that one. Last stamina session was easy as usual.
"Downward fucking Dog!", hahaha, best line in the game.
Final mission was LONG. Good thing I had my God Hand Rip-Off of Doom, and the tiger transformation which the game unleashed like... three times on this mission alone.
Final battle does something really mean to the story, but then they press Ctrl+Z. Cowards.
No surprises after the final boss, no surprises after the credits, which is a big shame. At least I didn't stick around much after saving the game and starting over. Still, shame. No kick-ass fake ending, no real ending with awesome music and a secret boss fight. There's plenty of WTF in this game, but nowhere near as thought-provoking as the original. The bosses aren't as memorable, fights or their personality. The story is... I don't think I understand what happened there at the end. But it's not a total mind**** like that final cutscene of No More Heroes One (which they don't even touch here). What's interesting is witnessing how Travis changes since the first game. He's still a wise-cracking immature otaku, but he becomes so angry and honorable as the game progresses.
This game is much better designed all around, though. Less annoying money farming (you don't need any money to beat this one), better mini-games, more friendly access to missions, more missions that are usually shorter.
Other than the last couple of ranked fights, which are very stretchy, you're doing different stuff pretty much from start to finish. There's the giant robot fight, then you're infiltrating an enemy base Snake-style, then Shinobu enters, then Henry, and between ranked fights you play several interesting mini-games. The sequel definitely feels less repetitive than the original.
