Saved and quit when I reached the Amusement Park. I think I'm close to the end now. The game is pretty cool, but I can't recommend it unless you're a real die hard fan of the series.

why is that? i hear it's sort of a retelling of the first game's story, so it seems like it would be a good pick for a newcomer to the series. that's actually why i'm interested.
Club 27 Goals
ohhh you're talkinga bout God of War. I kept thinking GoW stood for Gears of War. Gears of War also shares the same initials as Grapes of Wrath.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Don't worry - I was thrown at first too. aiwebs_017

How you guys can be fans of GoW and not DMC/Bayonetta completely boggles my mind. GoW is in exactly the same ballpark.

There is no combat at all here, you only see one type of enemy, and it's literally all about running around finding clues, almost like an old point and click game. It's hard to recommend a game like that these days.

Silent Hill fans complained that the combat got in the way of story and atmosphere in more recent games, so Climax took the bait and developed a game that's all about story and atmosphere. This is really awesome, but sometimes I miss the "game" part of the game. Entering a random room and finding ammo, managing my health, that sort of stuff.

As for the story itself... pretty much only the characters are the same. It's quite different from the original.

I don't particularly like any of them, except DMC, which I haven't played and thus can't judge.

God of War is less about the combat and more about the "cinema" experience, probably why it's much more popular. I've always looked at God of War as more of an adventure with lots of action than an action game with adventure elements, which Devil May Cry is, according to Kamiya himself...

I love it though, can't wait to play III, but it takes a while for some games to get here.

This statement is false.
Been working my way through Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.  My first PoP game.  So far the acrobatics have been amazing, and the rest ok.  Silent Hill was pretty fun...the story and atmosphere were great.  The nightmare parts were annoying, though.  Running around through mazes to escape wasn't overly fun, and eventually became repitative.

pop: tsot is the best in the 3d trilogy, but the other two are definitely worth checking out, especially if you don't care for the combat or other aspect of the first. while i don't think warrior within is a particularly good game, the trilogy as a whole is one of my very favorites. few things i like more than playing prince of persia.

Finished Shattered Memories. I loved it. Definitely better than Origins and Homecoming.

The whole frozen lake Nightmare was incredible. I was about to yell names when I died so far from the lighthouse, then the cutscene played, and played well. Swimming part was also neat, especially with the view button.

I thought there would be a little more action at the amusement park and lighthouse. But it's okay.

Story was AWESOME. Best Silent Hill story in ages, so human, better than the old cult nonsense.

Some people probably prefer the "I'm a really angry dude who rips other dudes in half with quicktime events" style over DMC's "Whoa man look at all this crazy over the top extreme action" style. Neither one appeals to me too much so it's possible I'm missing the mark a bit.

You should give Devil May Cry a try then. Yes, I'm talking about the very first.

When I had gotten DMC 3 I had bought it only for its cheap price too. I didn't expect much because I hadn't though too much of the whole "over the top" action theme, and to be honest, I still don't. I kinda liked DMC3 for the bit of atmosphere it had, but that was all.
So when I bought DMC it was really just because I had found out about its relation to RE4. Kinda thought it would be an interesting play.

Now I think it's a great game, even though I don't give much shit about the action genre. It's like how Prime is awesome even if you can't stand ego shooters.

ego shooters.

Oh, that means FPS.

Yeah that raises the whole 'What genre is Metroid Prime' debate again, when it's quite clear what is is - a first person platform adventure with occasional shooting.
red chamber dream
i wouldn't say "occasional". it's just not really the focus, at least in the first prime.

Can't believe how fast I'm tearing through God of War 3.  I have to be near the end.  All of my weapons are maxed and I've found all of the phoenix feathers, gorgon eyes, and minotaur horns.  All of the hidden chests I find that are supposed to contain those things just spit out red orbs instead, and I don't have much use for those at this point.
It appears Kratos actually cares about one of the characters.  This is strange to me and I'm not sure if I like it or not just yet.  When I play this series, I like to get into a kill-em-all-with-no-mercy mindset, and the recent showing of Kratos' tender side has kinda thrown me for a loop.  I can only hope that he's just faking it and plans to kill later.
Finished God of War 3 !  I liked it as much as the first one, the second one I didn't care too much for.  The weapons in the game seemed more powerful than in the previous games, or else the enemies had lower health.  After a certain point I was practically unstoppable and the fighting was just an annoying task that interfered with my exploration.  The game didn't really have alot of WTF puzzles like GoW2 did, thankfully.  The final battle was pretty damn good.  Awesome game overall.
What was your total playtime for finishing the game 100%?
It didn't tell me at the end, and I didn't check it on the stats screen right before the end.  I think it was around 8-9 hours.  I'll try to reload my last save and check the time the next time I turn it on.
That's not very much for a non-low budget game. ._.

By the way, you played Castlevania ReBirth, right? Did you manage to pull off the stage select trick? Because it somehow won't work for me. :|

I have the whole Saturday free to do NOTHING, which means getting started with No More Heroes 2.

It's not a huge amount of time, but I kinda ripped through the game.  That's just the way I play, I can't help it.

What stage select trick?

I already love this game.

Suda is like the Tarantino of games. It's all very self-aware (characters refer to the player in the middle of the cutscene for no reason), and the game makes one million references and commentaries per second. You're practically forced to replay if you want to catch everything.

The story is pretty interesting, and I'm sure it'll twist and turn like the original game. Can't wait to find out what happens. I guess whatever it is, it'll be delivered in style. During the introductory fight, you're hitting this guy and then suddenly a completely unrelated cutscene interrupts gameplay, you watch it, then the game sends you back to the battle exactly where you were. Hahaha.

Cutscenes are still hilarious. The guy who does the voice acting for Travis Touchdown is probably my favorite voice actor these days. He's like Leslie Nielsen in those spoof movies, he's funny because he takes his part so seriously.

So far I like the ranking up music and the slick scene transitions from No More Heroes One better.

You can now walk around in Travis's apartment, a little more immersive, still not much to do there. You can play a bullet-hell shooter mini-game on the TV, it's awesome and has great music, I finished it on Normal. You also have to take care of Jeane (his cat) this time, not doing so will leave her in a bad mood and fat.

Side jobs: SO AWESOME. They're all arcade-style 8-bit games. They're actually really fun by themselves, surprisingly well made. I have a ton of money from playing the bug game all the way to the end. Lay the Pipe is just like hacking in BioShock.

Combat is the same, it's good that they kept the double flick finisher, but I couldn't trigger Dark Step which was my favorite evasion move in the original. I hope they didn't axe it.

Wii control haters will be happy to know that you can play the game with the Classic Controller, although No More Heroes doesn't abuse motion controls nearly as much as other games.

I am probably... three hours in and I haven't started a single mission. Just making money and leveling up Travis.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
fuck, i can't post in the HGSS topic. some database error or something pops up when i try to post there.

here's what i wanted to post:

"to avoind being underleveled, it's better to level up fewer pokes.
i'm only using 3 and i owned the 5th and 6th gyms and my pokes were always above the highest level poke of the leaders. the only one that gave me trouble was the 3rd one like always (even in the original GS, that one gives the most trouble because there's no useful fighting type pokes + moves that early)
i'm right in front of the 7th gym leader but my DS ran out of battery yesterday. i'll beat him today and probably will go to the 8th gym and then E4. Feraligatr has Ice fang so i don't really need gyarados but i'm lacking in electric and fighting moves. i'mm go shop for some TMs.

iirc, thunderpunch is no longer a TM. you need to get it from a move tutor since the TMs are DPPt's TMs and the elemental punches were removed in the RSE days from the TM lists."

I'd rather have a short action game full of awesome things than one that goes on a longer than it needs too. Better to get out before it becomes repetitive.
