Mega Man 10: defeated the first three fortress bosses of Challenge Mode with gold crowns, Normal and Hard. I'm at 75% total now.
Archive boss was a pain in the ass because of Tornado. Goodness, did they blow up the collision box on his projectiles. It was frustrating because he was usually the last guy that appeared, and the whole fight is so smooth up until then...
Giant Enemy Crab was okay. As soon as I realized my life would be much easier without the lower claw, I'd just get rid of it first. The bubble attack is also easy to get the hang of, because only the marked bubbles are homing. This was probably the easiest challenge of the Hard difficulty ones.
Block Devil was a TON of fun. I love these bosses when they're fair and when you don't have to wait forever to kill them. The block pattern is very easy, just the way back that gets me sometimes. I killed his Normal version in one round (Rebound Striker FTW), and Hard was so intense that I didn't even notice how many rounds were there. I think three. My favorite strategy was when he starts going berserk with the blocks on the walls, I summoned Rush Coil and skipped the whole thing unscathed.
Only both Wily fights to do. If I can beat both today, I'll run through Easy difficulty to try Proto, and also to unlock the bosses in Challenge Mode and for the speed achievement.
I really wouldn't mind a new 8-bit classic every other year...
Saving/Quitting also counts as a death in the SNES version.
They didn't like making things easy in the SNES days, did they?
I think in the SNES version, they're recorded as 'games', so they're not technically deaths, but as far as play is concerned, it's not a zero file, and that's what matters.
Hell yeah, sooner than expected! All Normal and Hard bosses gold crown'd in Challenge Mode.
Wily Machine was awesome. I love this fight. The only tricky part is figuring out the best way to dodge the metal cage during the second half. I ended up jumping straight up from far away to trigger the spiral orb way above Mega Man, and then when the cage trapped me I could get out easily.
Wily Capsule was one of the easiest bosses around. I took some risks, though, wasn't feeling very patient. When he used the rain attack, I jumped straight up twice with INSANE timing so I would clear all sweeps while dealing 4 points of damage to Wily. That was ballsy as heck. I'm sure I could have used the Rush Coil + Jet combo to completely avoid the rain, but it was just one of those things I felt I had and should be done the way I was doing.
79%, about to speed through Easy mode as Proto. At this rate I may finish all type 1 challenges today.
EDIT:
Easy with Proto is finished, and all the bosses E from Challenge Mode. Full Challenge 1 page gold crown'd, now I have 94% total.
Gonna run the game once more this afternoon for the Buster-all-bosses and helmet-less achievements, then tomorrow it's all about Mr. Perfect (and automatically everything else) for 100%. So far I'm right on schedule!
Right, I am really inconsistent on Capcom Vs. SNK2. Earlier, I got all the way to the SNK boss in arcade mode (I forget his name - also, he's really cheap) got a round up on him no sweat. After that, he made mincemeat of me, several times. I started up a new arcade mode, only to take about ten attempts to beat the first opponent.
Still, loving the game so far, although I'm limited to the simplest Street Fighter characters (Ryu, Ken, Akuma) because everyone else has really weird hypercombos. My 180 turn still don't happen as often as I'd like, much like SOTN, but I'm getting better.
Bought Megaman 10 and Castlevania Rebirth today to hold me over until Cave Story next Monday. Only really previewed both at this point. First stage of Rebirth was awesome, so I can't wait to see what the rest of it is like.
Megaman 10 on the other hand ... seems odd. I tried it as both Mega and Proto, but neither really felt like a true Megaman experience. Something just seems off, and I tried 3 different stages too so it wasn't just one level that made me feel this way. I have a strong feeling I won't be finishing it just like 9, which sucks because I really enjoyed the Classic series. We'll see though.
LOL, Mega Man 10 is probably my game of the year already, same as 9 the week I bought it. :P
I can't get enough of them. 90+ hours on MM9 and 25 on MM10 already, that's pretty insane for a game that essentially lasts 30 minutes...
I'm doing my Headbanging (no helmet) + Trusty Sidearm (Buster only) run for the last couple of achievements before tackling Mr. Perfect. It's been a nice challenge juggling both at once. Since this game doesn't have new game+ like 9, I'm farming lots of money to avoid headaches.
EDIT:
Got Headbanging and Trusty Sidearm. You don't need to beat the game, they appear as soon as you kill the last of the eight bosses. Now all I have to do for 100% is Mr. Perfect, and I've done harder things in this game already.
I thought it was brilliant how in Wily1 the music starts all eerie with the rain, and after the first boss fight it explodes into a more frantic tune. That is one very well made level, between the music and the boss fights and the alternate routes.
just finished jak ii in 16:21 over five marathon sessions. man, that's a tough game - wasn't really expecting that since the first was a piece of cake. didn't bother with any of the side missions, since the main missions were annoying enough as to not make me want to do more than was required. i suppose the game isn't actually that difficult, it's just frustrating because more often than not you'll need to use trial and error to proceed, and checkpoints are very widely spaced or nonexistent in most missions. several times i wasn't sure where i was supposed to jump, so i'd try something, fall, and have to repeat a long portion of the mission again. it would be a different story if the levels were better designed i think (easier to see where you're going, ledges didn't blend in so much, etc), but that's a common fault of many games from the early 00s so it's not a big deal.
still though, i think it's a far better game than the first due to all the new mechanics that work so well together. had it been more fine-tuned it could have been a really great game. also pretty neat how it's both a sequel and a prequel at the same time. looking forward to jak 3 but probably won't get to it for a while.
twisted metal: black and pokemon soulsilver up next.
Twisted metal: black is a great game in the TM series. I remember my dad letting me play Twisted Metal games when I was really little on his playstation 1. My mom strongly disapproved but I could play them anyway.
Currently downloading STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, plan on going through that, installing the LURK mod, going through again, then trying Call of Pripyat. Does anyone care to express their feelings towards the STALKER games? I didn't even really know they existed until now, and from the people I've talked to about it held it in high regard so I decided to give it a shot.

Surely you're down with the flu and having mental judgement impairing headaches?
MM10 might have some sort of gimmick in every stage, which is everything but like the first classic games, but these gimmicks blent perfectly with the usual Mega Man gameplay. So I really don't see how this couldn't be a solid Mega Man title.
I can't get enough of them. 90+ hours on MM9 and 25 on MM10 already, that's pretty insane for a game that essentially lasts 30 minutes...
I'm just going to say you won't be beating those 90+ hours on MM10 for now. Don't forget MM10 doesn't have challenges that force you to beat the game dozens of times (30 times IIRC). Mr. Perfect should also go much quicker on Easy Mode. If your're going to do it on Easy, that is.
It didn't take 90 hours for me to 100% Mega Man 9, that's for sure. I had Mr. Perfect five days after buying the game, and 100% a couple days later. Truly Hardcore, the challenge with the 30 runs, allows you to beat only the fortress levels from a saved file and it counts as a finished run.
I really did play it a lot. Got home from work, needed to blow off some steam, fired up Endless Attack and spent a couple of hours trying to beat my record while listening to the radio. Best therapy ever. Or I'd just mess around with Time Attack, or try to think of fun level routes.
I don't know if I'll play MM10 for that long, but it's definitely not gonna stop at 40, let alone 25. Still have route and weapon analysis to do, not to mention all the DLC. ^^ I'll probably take a break after 100%ing the game to play something else until the DLC arrives. I have way too much stuff to play.
EDIT:
Doing well on Mr. Perfect, all 8 Robot Master levels done, plus the first fortress stage. Will continue this afternoon. I hate Commando Man.
I played the demo for this 'Mega' Man 10. I fail to see how it is different from previous installments. Then again, I've only briefly played some of said prior installments.
Congratz! I'm still at about 52%, taking my time..

Is there no Mr. Perfect (or whatever the DON'T GET HIT achievement is called)?
There is. The most notable difference is just that it can be done on easy mode, which also lets you do each Wily stage on its own, without having to start at stage 1 if you get hit at stage 4.
I'd only call myself a 'fan' of SM64 and SMS, two very distinct games.
I didn't say the fact that they were the same was a bad thing, just that I'd have tried to make the 10th game in a series at least look different to the first.

Possibly. Just feels like something is missing is all. Not sure what exactly, but every other Megaman I've played had something that kept me hooked.
I'm gonna give 10 another go later today, so maybe I'll find that missing "spark" I'm looking for.
About Mr. Perfect in Mega Man 10, it's much, much easier than 9. In MM9, you have to do the entire fortress in one go. You can imagine how frustrating it is to perform flawlessly for 25-30 minutes and then take a hit from the final boss.
I don't know where the hell I found energy to keep going in MM9, I guess I was just so excited about the game that I kept trying until I got it. I wouldn't do it again, and I wouldn't do it in MM10 if it was that strict.
Not to say that it's a cakewalk in 10. The fourth fortress level is a pain in the ass, because Robot Masters in 10 are much more erratic and require more specific tricks compared to those in 9. And after that you still have Wily Machine to face. But yeah, Easy mode makes one hell of a difference. In some cases, like Wily3, the level almost feels empty.
Taking a break from my seemingly neverending cycle of Mass Effect 1/2, I popped in Bioshock today. Forgot how freaking amazing the first 10 minutes are. The decent to Rapture is just fantastic.
Not that the game really goes downhill or anything. Just hard to match that intro.
