I thought i started out pretty freaky, when you have no idea what's going on and what Rapture is about. The first splicer encounter is pretty chilling. You get used to things pretty quick though, and don't think anything really scared me passed the first half-hour.
Ready to internet!
So it's more "OOGIE BOOGIE I'M A SCARY THING WITH SIX ORIFICES" scary than "I know what you did last summer" scary. More shocker than psychological.

I dunno, a shadowy figure singing creepy soft lullabies to a revolver in a baby stroller seems more on the psychological side to me.

I'm just scared that something was going to jump out at me, and I end up throwing my mouse and/or keyboard off the desk (which I've done more then once now).

I would reccomend then that you never play Dead Space.

What? Where did you get that? I haven't played a single Silent Hill in my life, and I'm only interested in Shattered Memories on it's own merrits and not as part of the franchise.
weird, could have sworn i remembered you trashing re as shitty shit compared to s.hill.

yeah dead space is full of "scares" that involve things popping out at you. that doesn't affect me because i'm a robot or something, so a game like silent hill: shattered memories, ie "mood horror" is more appealing to me. that's not to suggest dead space is a bad game though ... great action title.

i've never played a sh either. need to start with shattered memories asap i guess.

Maybe you're thinking of me calling it shitty compared to Eternal Darkness. Or just plain shitty prior to 4.
ah yeah that may have been it. weird.

I see. Can't really judge on that, though. Thought you had done a full SR already and felt like comparing it with SDA's record.

Alundra. I forgot just how awesome this game could be. And how heart-wrenching it can be at times.

I loved that as a kid, but never beat it. I hope it'll get released on US PSN someday. D:

Shattered Memories? I heard that one's not too great. You guys better start off with Silent Hill, then play Silent Hill 2 and you might want to get SM afterwards.

Yeah, but I don't want to play any other Silent Hill. They do not interest me. Shattered Memories does.

And woop, Mass Effect 1, Bioshock, and The Orange Box just arrived courtesy of Amazon. Yeah, I sold a bunch of shit in the past that I definitely shouldn't have, but Amazon was kind enough to have a buy 2 get 1 free sale on select Platinum Hits titles so that was a nice chance to correct that. And to be fair, I never actually owned Orange Box, only rented.

I hope it's not because Shattered Memories does not contain a shitty combat system.

Anyways, I've heard SM isn't even scary because you always know when enemies can approach and when they can't. You're prepared the entire time.
That sounds just dumb to me.

Shattered Memories doesn't contain ANY combat system, does it?

Well, apparently you run away by shaking your wiimote or something :|

But there are only very few occasions on which you meet enemies, so for the most part you don't have to worry about anything.

I'm cool with that.

Nothing turns a shitty day around like Portal.

Excellent game.  I still replay this every now and then.  It's great because it has no loading when moving between areas, which was unbelievable at the time.  It's also nice that 100% is always possible, with nothing in the game stupidly hidden away.

so far it seems like a gimped banjo-kazooie ... and doesn't look much better either. can't say i'm not enjoying it though.
Mister ...
I just bought the first BioShock today.  I've heard nothing but positives, so I'm pretty curious.  It's something I've been meaning to check out for the longest time too, so I really can't wait for it to finish installing.

Jak + Daxter was waaaay more fun then Banjo-kazooie IMO. Jack + Daxter has a much more serious atmosphere then Banjo-kazooie's cartoony/kid style atmosphere.
