Out of boredom I picked up where I left off on my ZM 15% run: Ridley. I've been trying to kill him for the past 30 mins. This attempt combined with my previous ones probably puts my total time trying to kill him at a couple of hours. I have 5 missiles, 4 supers, and no charge beam. It wouldn't be so hard if he followed a pattern! His initial round of small fireballs is the only predictable part then after that it seems completely random. Is there anything that I can do to affect his pattern (or lack thereof)? I watch people kill him on youtube and they always seem to know what he's about to do.
EDIT: PWNED! Somehow complaining about it made it happen!
I found that not going into morph ball or leaving the central platform made him keep doing the same thing over and over.
Now I'm just getting my ass kicked all over the place by MB. I made a serious mistake in not picking up a third super tank when I had the chance. Now I can't get one until chozodia.
EDIT: Man, this is my first time trying to kill MB with such low%. I found a method that works, but it's gonna take a LONG time without making any mistakes. I use all of my ammo to break the glass and then quickly get on the platform right under her eye. I then wait for rinkas to come towards me and I kill them when they are so close that I don't have to move to pick up the missiles they drop. I then turn around and nail her with the missiles, repeat. Trouble is, letting the rinkas get that close without letting one hit me is hard to do repeatedly, and one mistake is pretty much it. Once I get knocked into the lava, I can end up getting hit by a cannon, a MB shot, and a rinka, all within about a second. Man, I wish I would have grabbed that other super missile tank. I fucking hate mother brain. She's supposed to be easy.
EDIT2: Motherfucker. I killed mecha ridley on my first try, then got all the way to the escape ship without a scratch, only to get killed in about 5 seconds by those two black space pirates. I couldn't get back up to the top of the room. Space jumping without hi-jump is fucking ridiculous.
It can also deflect Nightmare's limb stabs (reward: free stun), and get rid of the tentacles at Underworld without any damage. Rolling Blaze is all kinds of awesome.
Yeah seen that in the LP. Hadn't I seen that I'd still be thinking Nightmare would be impossible to beat without items on higher difficulties.
Still wasted quite a lot of yellow orbs on Nelo Angelo (2nd fight), because I'm too impatient and usually take a lot of risks taking damage, and totally forgot about the second healing orb in the lower part of the room.
But beating him was awesome. I totally fucked up the beginning of that try by having gotten hit a few times, but was still able to beat him by having dodged everything else. What got me at the beginning were the large forward-side swing (took risks by assuming he'd only do the stinger) and some sort of turning backhandkick .. totally didn't know about that attack and hadn't seen it coming at all.
Griffon, however, is posing much more of a threat, since spamming him with handgun bullets doesn't work anymore (that did insane damage to him on normal). And I'm not good at dodging his attacks at all.

Griffon 2? That's not a very good fight. You basically have to use an exploit to win unscathed (for some reason he loves repeating the dive bomb attack over and over depending on where Dante stands). I just resort to DT'd E&I spam from the top of the first mast in front of him.
Nelo 2 is great, though. You can trap him in a loop with Ifrit. :)
finished bioshock 2 earlier today. no plot spoilers:
ended up liking it a little less overall than i did at first. it's a fairly repetitive game i think; seems like a lot of concepts could have been better executed. for example gathering adam with the little sisters is the same exact thing over and over again in every level. it's still fun and all, but i was hoping they'd give you more to do with the little sisters. that said, almost all of the gathering is totally optional, so i'm looking forward to playing through again and harvesting them all immediately to get a different experience.
also, the big sisters were way less of a nuisance than i was hoping, because you always knew exactly when they were going to show up. the game tells you they can appear at any time after dealing with a little sister, but they always appear after you've resolved all the little sisters in a level. seems like 2k could have easily made the appearances more random, which would have worked much better i think.
the combat and such was top-notch the entire time though; way better than the first game. i was constantly switching up weapons and plasmids; it's really nice that all your guns are very effective against most enemies, so it's hella fun to muck around, trying random shit out.
really enjoyed the last three stages in particular, and the end was actually very impressive. way more so than b.cock 1. now i need to play again to see the bad endings.

Yeah that worked pretty well, thanks. What's next is the third fight, which is probably going to be somewhat harder since I probably can't deal lots of damage to him anymore.

Really? I thought his patterns were completely random. :| But I beat him by strafing around him, dodging him and awaiting for openings anyways.
The damage you deal on Hard is actually the same or almost the same as Normal. What's brutal is the damage you take. (This only applies to bosses on Hard by the way. On DMD, their defense is pretty much tripled.)
One good thing to know about Griffon is that it's a ranged fight. Choose Guns and other projectiles for offense, forget your Devil Arms, or at least their melee moves.
For Griffon 3, DT'd Grenade Gun-rolling (shoot GG, immediately roll to cancel recoil, repeat) not only shaves off good health, but also dodges a couple of annoying attacks like the lightning curtains.
Alternatively you can try hitting the jackpot, Griffon offers a critical hit chance too. Griffon has two weak spots: the head and the core. Charge up Meteor-Lv2 with Ifrit and release as Griffy leans to screech. If you time it right, the Meteor will hit him once in the head, go through his body and hit the core for double damage.

That's the strategy I know from the LP. I'm going to try it, hoping it'll do much more damage than I've seen on the DMD LP.
But Grenage Rolling is awesome. Saved my live in the well with the dozens of Blades. D:
Games to play: All portables. I'm bringing the DS with Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia, Mega Man Zero 1-4 and ZX and Advent, Contra 4.
Games to buy: No More Heroes 2, BioShock 2, Arkham, Shattered Memories, Muramasa, maybe Scribblenauts.
Get some sort of USB connector to use your PS2 controller on PC.
That would be ideal, but I'm a tad strapped for cash lately, and it's a choice between games, controllers or saving for future releases (FFXIII, MGS:PW, to name two)
I was playing BioShock a few nights ago, it was just me in my room at midnight and I had my headphones in, and I was just playing like normal then there's that one part where the lights go out and you can hear someone laughing (and coming towards you?). I quickly hit the escape key to try and calm down, but decided in the end to just go play a different game. I haven't gone back since.
